00:00First of all, can you introduce yourself?
00:17What's your name and what are you here for?
00:19I am Mastor and I am here for Best Art Direction, which I just won.
00:24Congratulations.
00:25How does it feel to win?
00:26It feels wonderful to win.
00:28Art Direction, number one, is the most important thing to me.
00:31That's what I'm into first and foremost, because it's sort of an all-compounding theme and
00:37that's what I really like.
00:39I'm not interested in a movie, if it just happens to be set in reality, I want some
00:43art direction to it.
00:44So it's very important to me that I was in this category to begin with, and then to win
00:47feels wonderful.
00:48I live among the creatures of the night.
00:49I haven't got the will to try and fight.
00:51I live among the creatures of the night.
00:55I haven't got the will to try and fight.
00:59It's my world.
01:01Awesome.
01:02Did you put all of this together yourself?
01:03I did, as well as the other monsters in the video.
01:06It's actually shot in my home.
01:08If you watch the video, you'll see everything here seems as though it's art directed.
01:13It is art directed, but it is actually my home.
01:16So you're saying your bedroom isn't just like...
01:18That's my actual bedroom.
01:21City lights.
01:22Painted girls.
01:24City lights.
01:26Do you have any fun stories maybe from this set, when you were putting it together, you
01:29could tell?
01:31Well, what's funny is that David, the director, was so talented, I was like trying to act.
01:38It's kind of hard to act through a monster suit.
01:41So I said, you have to do these exaggerated gestures.
01:44And he's like, you're really giving me Elizabeth Taylor.
01:47And I was like, no, no, no, it's giving me Elizabeth Taylor.
01:49But he loved it.
01:50That's what he wanted.
01:51So it ended up being great.
01:52But you're like, I can't do anything but Elizabeth Taylor.
01:55I drew a mole through this much latex.
01:57I was very happy that somehow that came across.
02:00How did you choose him to work with as a director?
02:03You know what's funny is, do you know how I chose him?
02:05He chose me.
02:06And it was a wonderful chance of luck, is that I was on Instagram.
02:11As myself.
02:12Not as Master.
02:14So, just by happenstance, I met David.
02:18And we just liked the same thing.
02:19Do you post a picture of Grace Jones?
02:20I would post a picture of Grace Jones.
02:22And we just ended up becoming friends.
02:23And he said, do you know what I do for a living?
02:25And I was like, no, what do you do for a living?
02:27And this was about a month into knowing him.
02:29And he's like, oh, I make music video.
02:31And I live in Los Angeles, so I was kind of like, OK, cool.
02:35You know, like, lots of people make music videos.
02:37And then I'm like, what music videos?
02:38And he's like, da-da-da-da-da-da.
02:40And I was like, oh, you make real music videos?
02:43And so it just so happened, for fun, I had recorded a song.
02:48And he had said, if I'm not a singer, he's a connoisseur of a song.
02:52And I played it for him.
02:53And he's like, I love it.
02:54Can I make your music video?
02:55And I thought, I genuinely thought, oh, this is a stun.
02:58This is a scam.
03:00I may know what I need to do.
03:01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
03:02I thought, this is a guy who's like, he's finding somebody who's like, insane.
03:08And that he could trick and be like, oh, yeah, all it takes is just give me some $2,000.
03:13And we're going to make this amazing video.
03:15But it was real.
03:16But I genuinely thought it was fake.
03:18And then it ended up being this wonderful thing.
03:20So it has turned into this award-winning.
03:22In the night, no control.
03:27Through the wall, something's breaking.
03:31Wearing white as you're walking down the street of my soul.
03:40You take myself.
03:42You take my self-control.
03:44You've got me living only for the night.
03:48Before the morning comes, the story's told.
03:52You take myself.
03:54You take my self-control.
03:56Can you talk a little bit about Mastro?
03:58When did it start?
03:59What does it mean, if anything?
04:01Oh, well, Mastro, just to create, I'm a big fan of like,
04:05fantasy and sci-fi and stuff like that.
04:07And, you know, Skeletor is like my personal hero.
04:10And I thought, why can't I just make one?
04:12Why don't I just, you know, it's like,
04:14if you could design yourself in any way,
04:16what would you be?
04:18And so Mastro is the answer to that.
04:21It was beautiful.
04:22Can you describe the energy of the BMBAs a little bit?
04:25Maybe in three words, if you can.
04:27I'll go for it.
04:29You've got a bunch to say.
04:30Cool, creative.
04:32What's the third word?
04:35Cool, creative, and just on the pulse,
04:37but that's not a third word.
04:38You know what I'm saying?
04:39That's good enough.
04:40It reminds me of, like, when I was at CalArts.
04:43It's just these, like, really high creative levels
04:49of people coming together who are making things.
04:52They're not just creative.
04:53They're making things.
04:54And there's a huge difference in that.
04:56But it's actually pretty scary to make things.
04:58Like, that's the one thing I learned in school,
05:00is that make anything.
05:02Because that leads to the next thing.
05:04And I was always so afraid of critique and being criticized,
05:08hence being a person that hides underneath a monster.
05:11So I turned that into a thing.
05:14But I was saying to my friend, I was like,
05:17it's so awesome being around all these people
05:19for all the talents, whether it's the vanities,
05:22or, you know, just the music, or what have you.
05:25I just love being around the creative people,
05:27so it's great.
05:28I must say, you're an incredible interviewee.
05:30You articulate yourself very well.
05:32One last question.
05:33Is there a song in your playlist right now
05:35that you want to get out to more people,
05:37that more people should know about?
05:41Oh, gosh.
05:42I am, honestly, through every single day,
05:47I am a woman in love like Barbra Streisand.
05:50A fan is not.
05:53It's so crazy.
05:55And I don't know why it makes for a phenomenal workout song.
06:01Never think something that's not.
06:02It's real deep and low energy.
06:04But it's so intense.
06:06And she has so much, like,
06:07I am a woman in love.
06:09And I will do anything.
06:11Like, she's on the edge.
06:13And it's so hard.
06:14It's more hard than anything.
06:16It's more hard than anything.
06:17I do legs through it.
06:19I am a woman in love by Barbra Streisand
06:21is the song right now.
06:23It's out in Europe.
06:24Beautiful.
06:25Next time I walk it out, I'll try it.
06:26Thank you very much.
