00:00The company behind the plan of establishing Europe's largest lithium mine in Serbia is making a fresh effort to put it back on the table.
00:10In 2022, following massive protests, the Serbian government stopped the Jara project.
00:16The company, Rio Tinto, recently published an environmental study claiming the mining project wouldn't impact the environment as feared.
00:26The publication of these drawings doesn't mean that the Jara project will continue.
00:31If the Jara project is implemented, the studies would be carried out in the regular procedure that is stipulated in the law and which includes a public hearing.
00:56The project is valued at nearly 200 billion euros.
01:01The implementation of the Jara project would lead to massive devastation of the area, permanent change in the nature of the area,
01:10degradation of biodiversity, land, forests, surface and underground water, displacement of the local population.
01:30President Vucevic has not announced the future moves of his cabinet, but emphasizes that lithium can be a serious advantage for Serbia.
01:38I believe that it is a strategic advantage of Serbia in ore and minerals.
01:48I believe that we have to take care of the national interests and the interests of our people, not the interests of private companies.
