00:00:02Oh my God, Max.

00:02:38June 14th,
00:02:40and this is Henry Lockwood's
00:02:42world, and we're all living in
00:02:44this world.
00:02:46This is Henry Lockwood's
00:02:48world.
00:02:50This is Henry Lockwood's world, and we're all
00:02:52living in it. We are taping this right now
00:02:54on Henry Lockwood's
00:02:5631st birthday.
00:02:58Happy birthday, Hank.
00:03:00Henry Lockwood is coming off
00:03:02a night where
00:03:04he went to see
00:03:06his quarterback, who won six
00:03:08Super Bowls for him,
00:03:10be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame,
00:03:12and that quarterback
00:03:14named
00:03:16Hank and Feidelberg and
00:03:18who actually left.
00:03:20In his induction speech,
00:03:22the Hall of Fame
00:03:24greatest quarterback of all time named Hank
00:03:26in his induction speech
00:03:28while
00:03:30his Celtics
00:03:32were going up 3-0 on the
00:03:34precipice of winning their
00:03:3618th banner. Today is his
00:03:38birthday. Oh, and just a little
00:03:40cherry on top, Bryson is his max bet
00:03:42for the U.S. Open, and he's like third.
00:03:44Hank,
00:03:46the whole world is just
00:03:48coming up Hank right now.
00:03:50I don't really know what else to say
00:03:52other than we're just passengers
00:03:54in Hank's ride through the galaxies.
00:03:56I got something, and I want to add one thing
00:03:58to it real quick. He also saw
00:04:00a down-and-out, appears possibly
00:04:02homeless person, wearing the
00:04:04handsome Hank Lockwood boxing shirt
00:04:06at a bus station in
00:04:08South Boston. So, it's been
00:04:10quite a trip.
00:04:12Hank, my question for you is, can you
00:04:14teach me your ways?
00:04:16I mean, I'm the luckiest
00:04:18guy in the world. There's really nothing to say
00:04:20other than I just
00:04:22pure luck, right place, right time. I don't
00:04:24really know why. I know I don't
00:04:26deserve it,
00:04:28but I just
00:04:30am, you can't,
00:04:32I'm just lucky. I'm just lucky. There's really
00:04:34nothing else I can say.
00:04:36I definitely don't deserve it, but I'm happy
00:04:38that I'm able to experience
00:04:40the things I'm able to experience and
00:04:42be blessed. I thank you, too.
00:04:44I thank Dave for
00:04:46everything, really.
00:04:48I didn't actually want an answer here.
00:04:50I didn't want an answer. I don't know why.
00:04:52This wasn't what I wanted. I just wanted to acknowledge
00:04:54it. I'm assuming Max took off his headphones,
00:04:56PFT. He took them off his ears,
00:04:58and then Hank kept going, and then gradually
00:05:00he just slowly took them off his entire head
00:05:02and put them down on the desk next to him.
00:05:04He can't take it.
00:05:06Hank is...
00:05:08Big Cat, you forgot one thing.
00:05:10The Red Sox beat the Phillies last night, too.
00:05:12Oh, yeah.
00:05:14You don't even know that they're winning again tonight,
00:05:16you fucking loser.
00:05:18Well, he's actually not a loser.
00:05:20I drove home...
00:05:22You can call Hank a lot of things.
00:05:24You can call Hank a terrible golfer.
00:05:26Yeah, I know, I know, I know.
00:05:28He sleeps too much.
00:05:30But he's not a loser.
00:05:32He's not a loser.
00:05:34No, he's not a loser. Hank is a winner,
00:05:36and that's why I want to know his ways. I mean, whatever
00:05:38he's been doing in his life has worked out so
00:05:40tremendously well for him that
00:05:42there's something that we can all learn
00:05:44from Hank. Hank,
00:05:46I saw you also tweeted out this morning that
00:05:48you are now as old
00:05:50as me and Big Cat were when we started
00:05:52Part of My Take, which made me feel
00:05:54extremely old. Out of all the things that have
00:05:56made me feel old in my late 30s,
00:05:58I mean late 20s,
00:06:00that is probably the number one.
00:06:02Thinking it in that terms really blows
00:06:04my mind. So I want to know,
00:06:06when you started doing Part of My Take,
00:06:08did we feel old to you? Oh, yeah.
00:06:10I was 22,
00:06:12so I don't know how you guys feel, but
00:06:14obviously
00:06:16I live a
00:06:18Peter Pan basically lifestyle with
00:06:20his job, but
00:06:22I feel like time has just kind of
00:06:24stopped since we started the podcast.
00:06:26It's probably bad that I don't really
00:06:28feel any different than I did
00:06:30when the podcast started,
00:06:32but I don't. I was 22
00:06:34when the podcast started. I'm 31 now,
00:06:36but I feel like I think
00:06:38in the exact same way as I did
00:06:40back then, I'm just like
00:06:42a little bit better off in life.
00:06:44I feel the same way.
00:06:46The other one, PFT,
00:06:48is my son is about to
00:06:50turn 5 next week,
00:06:52so I've been a dad for more
00:06:54than half of this show. That's crazy
00:06:56too. Crazy. That's awesome.
00:06:58That one fucked me up as well, but yeah, Hank
00:07:00being 31, the age that we
00:07:02started,
00:07:04I don't know.
00:07:06He's still got his whole life in front of him.
00:07:08Whatever
00:07:10even when Hank is down
00:07:12for a little bit, and he's been down
00:07:14before. I mean, he literally
00:07:16sucked Nicky Smoke's cock on
00:07:18video last week,
00:07:20but it doesn't matter
00:07:22because it always comes back.
00:07:24He always bounces back. He's the stock
00:07:26that everyone should have bought 10 years
00:07:28ago. I guess I kind of did.
00:07:30We both did. Yeah, we did.
00:07:32He just keeps
00:07:34you might have a bad quarter,
00:07:36but then it's the dividends.
00:07:38I think that's the word. Just keep producing
00:07:40insane profits.
00:07:42I'm like the
00:07:44roaring kitty.
00:07:46I like the stock.
00:07:48I like the honk.
00:07:50I'm glad we invest in you, Hank.
00:07:52In the middle of the night last night,
00:07:54when you were on this heater, and I was
00:07:56getting ready to go to sleep, and you pointed out that
00:07:58not only had all these great things happen, but also
00:08:00that the Red Sox beat the Phillies, and
00:08:02you didn't even know about it. I
00:08:04thought to myself, I should get out of bed and
00:08:06just fuck up all the slats in my bed frame
00:08:08because it might be the way that you're sleeping.
00:08:10I don't know. I just want to be more like Hank. What can I
00:08:12say? Eat some spiders?
00:08:14Yeah.
00:08:16I put a hole in my wall.
00:08:18Okay, last thing, because I do want to talk
00:08:20about the game, Hank. Then I want to talk about your night
00:08:22at Brady's retirement.
00:08:24The last thing I was wondering, so you're
00:08:26such a winner, Hank.
00:08:28You're the ultimate winner.
00:08:30Here comes the backhand.
00:08:32No, no, no, no, no. This isn't going to be a backhand.
00:08:34What would it
00:08:36feel like if,
00:08:38and I'm just saying any of us
00:08:40in this room, were
00:08:42the ultimate loser,
00:08:44but Hank, the ultimate
00:08:46winner, was our boss?
00:08:48That would suck. I would quit.
00:08:50Because we joke about
00:08:52Hank being our boss, PFT. He's
00:08:54actually
00:08:56Max's boss.
00:08:58I thought we were talking about the game.
00:09:00I thought
00:09:02that's what you said you were going to do.
00:09:04It gives him examples of what it looks
00:09:06like.
00:09:08You never want your subordinates
00:09:10to be better than your boss, so it's
00:09:12better for me to kind of show him the way
00:09:14and just give him
00:09:16something to strive for. I think
00:09:18that's the best boss you can ask for.
00:09:20Right?
00:09:22Yeah, it's very good.
00:09:24I mean, you're showing that you're
00:09:26not afraid to be a hands-on boss either because
00:09:28the Celtics, what, four-fifths
00:09:30of their starting lineup were at one time
00:09:3276ers? So you're
00:09:34showing them how to take the same, or could have been
00:09:3676ers.
00:09:38You're taking the same ingredients, and you're
00:09:40showing them, this is how you assemble
00:09:42a winning culture.
00:09:44You can learn a lot from this, so I appreciate that about
00:09:46your boss-ship, Hank.
00:09:48Max, do you have any...
00:09:50He's not even...
00:09:52It might be the end of him.
00:09:54Because it really is incredible
00:09:56how much Hank wins
00:09:58and how much Max loses.
00:10:00Max has to report
00:10:02to Hank. His job is
00:10:04in Hank's hands. It's actually
00:10:06a credit to you, Hank, that you do
00:10:08such great charity service
00:10:10by employing a guy
00:10:12like Max.
00:10:14Yeah, I mean, I just want to help
00:10:16him. Listen, no one roots for Max more than
00:10:18me. That's the thing that he doesn't
00:10:20realize, that I want him to get
00:10:22to this level. There's no one that's
00:10:24rooting for him to be more on that
00:10:26more than me. Oh, you can hear us?
00:10:30I think we need to get Max an emotional
00:10:32support animal. Somebody that's
00:10:34a bigger loser than him,
00:10:36and that way he can shit on that person.
00:10:38Memes.
00:10:40Well, memes also is in the category
00:10:42of people that probably hate me,
00:10:44but also has to post when I do
00:10:46good things on social media, and I know
00:10:48he hates doing it, but I love
00:10:50that.
00:10:52That's so true.
00:10:54It's a shame. I feel bad,
00:10:56but not at all. Yesterday sucked.
00:10:58I hate Tom Brady.
00:11:00Hank's okay, but
00:11:02yesterday sucked. He just had to post
00:11:04highlights of Tom Brady sucking off
00:11:06Hank. Shout out
00:11:08Big Dom.
00:11:10Shout out Big Dom.
00:11:12That has nothing to do with this, Max.
00:11:14We can talk about that later.
00:11:16That was a win for me.
00:11:18I get to get one of these wins every now
00:11:20and then. Oh, Big Dom sent us some
00:11:22footballs, who I love.
00:11:26Big Dom's a legend. Hank, do you think Tom Brady
00:11:28would ever send you some merch?
00:11:30Of course.
00:11:32It was very
00:11:34cool seeing you guys meet him, and
00:11:36I was jealous because to have
00:11:38an athlete like that that you grew up idolizing,
00:11:40to look back and look you in the eye
00:11:42and be like, thank you guys. That was great.
00:11:44I love Fight's response, which was like,
00:11:46dude, shut the hell up. It was so perfect.
00:11:48Tom Brady thanked
00:11:50Hank and Dave and
00:11:52Gaz and Fight's
00:11:54first words to Tom Brady were
00:11:56no, you shut the hell up. Thank you.
00:12:00Hank, tell us. Let's do that,
00:12:02and then we'll talk Celtics game because memes
00:12:04did have to post all these highlights.
00:12:06You went to Tom Brady's retirement ceremony.
00:12:08For people who don't know the lore,
00:12:10when Tom Brady deflated,
00:12:12he got suspended. Dave,
00:12:14Fight's, Gaz, and Hank,
00:12:16the Brady four, went to jail
00:12:18for Tom Brady.
00:12:20They went and protested at the NFL
00:12:22office. Hank spent a night in jail
00:12:24literally for Tom Brady.
00:12:26On Tom Brady's induction
00:12:28night last night,
00:12:30they dressed up exactly like they dressed up
00:12:32when they went to jail.
00:12:34They got special seats,
00:12:36great seats given to them by
00:12:38Robert Kraft. They got to meet Tom Brady.
00:12:40Take it away, Hank.
00:12:42What was last night like?
00:12:44It was a beyond
00:12:46surreal night.
00:12:48We parked a mile and a half away,
00:12:50and Dave had a parking pass, but he didn't have it.
00:12:52He was like, we'll just walk.
00:12:54It was a classic Barstool situation where we were
00:12:56walking so far
00:12:58to get to the stadium, which was funny
00:13:00because then we just walked into the VIP
00:13:02red carpet area with all the players.
00:13:04We see Scott Zolak,
00:13:06current guest of the show, absolute lightning rod.
00:13:08He's yelling at us. We go
00:13:10to check in, and Zolak has asked
00:13:12the lady at the front desk, where am I sitting?
00:13:14She said, oh, you're in the general
00:13:16seat in the general area.
00:13:18Then she's like, oh, Dave, you guys are
00:13:20at table 31. There's seven of you.
00:13:22Zolak was like, what the fuck? How do you guys
00:13:24have seats? I'm just sitting with the regular
00:13:26people. He literally broadcasts the games.
00:13:28Then waiting
00:13:30for the red carpet, it was just all
00:13:32former Patriots players, Gronk,
00:13:34Edelman, Randy Moss,
00:13:36William McGinnis.
00:13:38For me, there was a bunch of surreal parts
00:13:40of it, but seeing Gronk and
00:13:42Edelman and them just
00:13:44coming up to us and dapping us up like we were
00:13:46players, and obviously we know them really well. That was
00:13:48crazy because it's
00:13:50a bunch of players just hamming it up, saying what's up to
00:13:52each other, and they just walk past us.
00:13:54Gronk was like, oh, what's up, Eric? Dapped me up,
00:13:56gave me a hug, same with Edelman. That was
00:13:58insane to me, obviously,
00:14:00just knowing. It felt like
00:14:02we were on the team. That was really
00:14:04cool. We did a
00:14:06red carpet interview with
00:14:08Boston that I don't think aired,
00:14:10and Dave, like Jason McCourty,
00:14:12or Devin McCourty, was doing...
00:14:14We're going to have to figure out which one that was. Fuck.
00:14:16No, no, no.
00:14:18Do not cut that. There's no way
00:14:20Max is cutting that.
00:14:22There's no way Max is cutting that.
00:14:24Crazy that you think I would cut that.
00:14:28McCourty was doing the interviews,
00:14:30and he
00:14:32asked Feidelberg a question. I wish
00:14:34it aired so bad. I've never seen Feidelberg
00:14:36freeze like this in his life. He asked me,
00:14:38did you guys know you were going to jail? I said,
00:14:40we thought we were going to get out on the same night. We got arrested.
00:14:42The cop was like, hey, it's too late in the afternoon.
00:14:44You're going to have to spend the night, and we all kind of froze
00:14:46and looked at each other. We're like, uh-oh.
00:14:48Then he asked Feidelberg a question. I think
00:14:50Feidelberg was thinking about whether or not he could say
00:14:52shit because he was going to say the story about how I took a shit
00:14:54in jail, but he just froze
00:14:56so bad for like 10
00:14:58seconds. He put the mic in front of him. Feidelberg
00:15:00was just...
00:15:02Unfortunately, that clip never came out.
00:15:04I hope they post it because it was so funny.
00:15:06And then, yeah,
00:15:08we were just hanging out with
00:15:10Patriots legends,
00:15:12and everyone was coming up to Dave.
00:15:14Bon Jovi came up to Dave. They were best
00:15:16friends. I was like, oh, Dave, when are you coming over for lunch?
00:15:18That was insane.
00:15:20The whole night was just beyond
00:15:22insane, and then we were sitting
00:15:24at the seats, and someone
00:15:26came over and said, hey,
00:15:28I think you guys are in the speech. Because when we met
00:15:30Brady, too, he was like, you guys have really good seats right in the
00:15:32front row, which should have tipped us off
00:15:34knowing that he knew where we were sitting because he had
00:15:36been writing a speech and planning for it.
00:15:38Dave
00:15:40leaving was something.
00:15:42It was definitely something.
00:15:44We had
00:15:46the game on a phone. We were
00:15:48watching it, and I think Dave tried to get it
00:15:50on his phone with YouTube TV
00:15:52and the region. It said,
00:15:54you're in the wrong region, and he
00:15:56was like, I got to watch. He just went from
00:15:58trying to get it on. He couldn't get it on. He was like, I got to
00:16:00watch the game. I got to go.
00:16:02We knew we were going to be in the
00:16:04speech. We knew. We said,
00:16:06he was like, if I wait till it ends,
00:16:08it's going to be crazy for me because people are going to
00:16:10stop and talk, which they were, obviously, all
00:16:12night. Everyone was treating him like royalty,
00:16:14so it would have taken him way longer to get to
00:16:16the bar where we knew me, Gaz, and
00:16:18Feidelberg could just run
00:16:20over there. He was like, I'll leave,
00:16:22and you guys just come after the thing.
00:16:24Even after he left, I was like,
00:16:26we're going to get mentioned. He's going to get
00:16:28mentioned. He didn't know we were going to be in the Jumbotron, but
00:16:30we knew
00:16:32beforehand that
00:16:34we had been told, you guys
00:16:36are in the speech.
00:16:38When he thanked you,
00:16:40you pulled an all-time power move, which was you
00:16:42stood up, and you gave yourself
00:16:44a standing ovation.
00:16:46The fact that
00:16:48we got a pop, there was different
00:16:50pops all night. People came on the stage.
00:16:52Randy Moss, by far, the
00:16:54best one. It brought me to tears.
00:16:56They had
00:16:58defense come on, and then they had
00:17:00some offensive players come on, and they had the quarterbacks
00:17:02come on at different times to do talking
00:17:04segments, and Randy Moss came on.
00:17:06He started to talk, and before he
00:17:08could even speak, everyone just started
00:17:10clapping. Everyone stood up,
00:17:12gave him a two-minute-long standing
00:17:14ovation. He started crying. I was
00:17:16crying. It was a beautiful,
00:17:18beautiful moment.
00:17:20Question, Hank.
00:17:22This moment where Tom Brady mentions
00:17:24you in his
00:17:26Patriots Hall of Fame induction speech.
00:17:28Before anything else, before his parents.
00:17:30He mentions you.
00:17:32That clip goes out.
00:17:34Memes, from your perspective,
00:17:36how was that, having to post that?
00:17:40It was terrible.
00:17:42Okay, great. Thank you, memes.
00:17:44What were you thinking?
00:17:46It was good numbers, right?
00:17:48It got great views,
00:17:50great engagement.
00:17:52That's what the game is, right?
00:17:54Yeah, you're right. It's part of the job.
00:17:56I hate it every second.
00:17:58Keep going, Hank.
00:18:00I just can't. It was
00:18:02insane, the amount of players that
00:18:04obviously, I'm a fan, and obviously,
00:18:06this is a massive podcast,
00:18:08and Barcelona's a massive platform, so I
00:18:10shouldn't get surprised. I've been doing it for 11
00:18:12years, but as a
00:18:14team, the amount of people that
00:18:16were coming up to us,
00:18:18like Belichick's
00:18:20sons, and Steve
00:18:22Pioli, I mean, Scott Pioli.
00:18:24I'm messing up everyone's names. This is bad.
00:18:26Cut that, Max. Cut that.
00:18:28Cut that, Scott Pioli.
00:18:30Just everyone coming up
00:18:32and dapping us up like we were just
00:18:34part of the team or part of the
00:18:36organization was beyond surreal.
00:18:38Then getting the shout-out at the
00:18:40top of the speech, you said fans, and
00:18:42he said the Brady Four, and then he went
00:18:44into his family. He mentioned us
00:18:46right out of the gate.
00:18:48You're closer than family.
00:18:50Yeah, we got a pop.
00:18:52The camera angle,
00:18:54you can't see my face, thankfully.
00:18:56When he was thanking us, and obviously, he's a
00:18:58professional, and he's probably used to
00:19:00doing eye contact, he was just
00:19:02looking straight at me, and I did
00:19:04not know what to do. I was praying that he
00:19:06looked away. He kept talking
00:19:08and staring at me, and I was just like,
00:19:10please look away.
00:19:12I don't know what to do.
00:19:14I don't know what to do.
00:19:16I'm a 31-year-old, and I
00:19:18acted like I've never been more
00:19:20nervous or more excited in my entire life.
00:19:22I felt like a 2-year-old.
00:19:24It was amazing.
00:19:26Is he going to come on the show?
00:19:28Yeah, we have a soft
00:19:30agreement. We've got
00:19:32a tentative date.
00:19:34We don't do that on the show, but
00:19:36we've got verbals.
00:19:38We've got verbals.
00:19:40Alright.
00:19:42I did see the fucking
00:19:44lighthouse. It looked like shit.
00:19:46Oh, no, it looked awesome.
00:19:48The picture of you in front of the lighthouse
00:19:50was... You had so much
00:19:52face paint on. It looked like Gaz put your face
00:19:54paint on for you. Yeah, well, I kept
00:19:56rubbing my face and then forgetting I had face paint on
00:19:58and then wiping it off my white shorts, which
00:20:00was dumb.
00:20:02It was a little bit of a messy
00:20:04evening.
00:20:06Sammy J, the comedian, was at our
00:20:08table. She was funny as fuck. Bill Burr
00:20:10absolutely brought the house down.
00:20:12Jay-Z performance. Kenny Chesney performance.
00:20:14It was just
00:20:16magical. Okay, you're a winner.
00:20:18Alright, so, and then
00:20:20next topic, the Celtics are up 3-0
00:20:22and the Mavs.
00:20:24Luka has
00:20:26gone out as sad as sad could
00:20:28be. It's just a
00:20:30pathetic
00:20:32second half by Luka
00:20:34where there was that
00:20:36two possessions in a row
00:20:38where he took back-to-back
00:20:40threes and
00:20:42tried to get a foul call
00:20:44and then just didn't go back on defense
00:20:46that was so, so sad
00:20:48and just like bad
00:20:50basketball, like terrible to watch
00:20:52and he ends up fouling out and then
00:20:54complains about the refs afterwards.
00:20:56Brian Winhorse, our guy
00:20:58Windy, absolutely eviscerated
00:21:00him on Scott Van Pelt
00:21:02afterwards, basically saying
00:21:04he has to mature, he has to get better, he has to
00:21:06stop doing these things that are hurting his team
00:21:08which are all facts. Like, Luka
00:21:10is the third best player
00:21:12in the NBA. There still are
00:21:14a lot of things that are just, oh Hank
00:21:16okay, we don't want to do this again, Hank.
00:21:18You want to do this again, Hank?
00:21:20Let's not do this again.
00:21:22I do agree with Hank
00:21:24that Jaylen Brown
00:21:26should be up there though.
00:21:28Jaylen Brown
00:21:30scored 24 points in the second half. He was
00:21:32incredible. Phenomenal.
00:21:34The Celtics team
00:21:36it's crazy because that
00:21:38blowing that, it's crazy to watch
00:21:40a team mature
00:21:42to a point where you can
00:21:44actually still see their past in
00:21:46their present, in the fact that they
00:21:48almost blew a 20 point lead
00:21:50which is something that a couple
00:21:52years ago, Hank, you would agree, they would
00:21:54have actually blown the 20 point lead.
00:21:56So you can see the past happening
00:21:58and then you can see them being like, no wait
00:22:00that's not what we do anymore
00:22:02we're just going to win this game and execute
00:22:04down the stretch and Jaylen Brown is going to hit a
00:22:06big jumper to ice the Mavs out
00:22:08at home and you can see it all happening
00:22:10at the same time. They asked
00:22:12Derek White about that after the game.
00:22:14Is Joe Mazzola, do you think he's happy? The fact
00:22:16that you guys keep coming close to getting beaten
00:22:18and then you just put your foot on the gas and crush
00:22:20him and Derek was like,
00:22:22yeah, he's a sicko so I think he probably does
00:22:24enjoy this. He's showing them the videos of
00:22:26dudes getting choked out, almost choked
00:22:28out and fighting back. Mazzola's
00:22:30definitely enjoying those types of wins too
00:22:32and I think you are right, like you can see
00:22:34Jiu Jitsu. Yeah, oh I like
00:22:36that, Jiu Jitsu. You can see
00:22:38That's a better shirt than Jeruth
00:22:40The Jeruth
00:22:42The Jeruth, yeah
00:22:44You're wearing it?
00:22:46The Jeruth
00:22:48What about
00:22:50The Drynasty
00:22:52Or our good friend Donnie
00:22:54Whore for July
00:22:56Yeah Whore for July is pretty good. May the whoref be with you
00:22:58There's a lot of good shirts we can sell
00:23:00Hank when you inevitably win but
00:23:02Big Cat you brought up Brian Winhorse
00:23:04and his evisceration
00:23:06his ether of Luka
00:23:08and you saw him, I don't know if you
00:23:10guys watched this live, I was standing
00:23:12up in my basement like fist bumping
00:23:14like I'm watching Arsenio because
00:23:16he didn't tell any lies
00:23:18in that. You could make the
00:23:20argument some of it was personal but it
00:23:22was all 100% correct. I think my favorite
00:23:24part was when he pointed at the tunnel and he goes
00:23:26see that tunnel right there? That's where the
00:23:28winners walk and you're never going to be
00:23:30over there and then later on he said that
00:23:32maybe some, I have the quote right here
00:23:34maybe over the summer somebody
00:23:36will get to him because nobody with a Mavericks
00:23:38or anybody else in his life has
00:23:40and that's why the Mavericks are at this point
00:23:42they'll never get to this tunnel with the trophy
00:23:44if he doesn't improve
00:23:46and he was spot on like
00:23:48Luka crying about fouling
00:23:50out of the game on the dumbest foul to take
00:23:52and yeah it was like, it was borderline but it
00:23:54was still a dumb position to put
00:23:56yourself in and then
00:23:58right afterwards screaming at his own bench
00:24:00to be like you better fucking challenge that
00:24:02then they do challenge it
00:24:04and then they lose that challenge and then after the game
00:24:06he's still blaming the refs
00:24:08Luka
00:24:10he's a baby back bitch
00:24:12He was being a baby back bitch last night and
00:24:14after he demands that they
00:24:16challenge that one the next play or
00:24:18maybe a play after that
00:24:20I think it was a PJ Washington
00:24:22screen, that one could have been
00:24:24challenged and probably would have been overturned
00:24:26but they burned the challenge
00:24:28because Luka was complaining
00:24:30and I love watching Luka play basketball
00:24:32but that was one of the
00:24:34like you can't defend
00:24:36what he did in game three
00:24:38like that was pathetic and
00:24:40like Wendy said he will hopefully
00:24:42mature from it and get better and
00:24:44like this will be, because look
00:24:46you're seeing it right now on the other
00:24:48sideline, the Celtics
00:24:50are the mature team, like there
00:24:52have been moments where Tatum and Jalen
00:24:54Brown, they've had moments
00:24:56where you're like this team lacks that
00:24:58killer instinct of maturity, they had to go through the
00:25:00wars to get to that point
00:25:02where they are a championship caliber
00:25:04team, a championship winning team that's
00:25:06going to be up there with some of the greatest teams
00:25:08ever when you look at their record
00:25:10so it does take, that's one of my favorite parts
00:25:12about the NBA is the wars
00:25:14that it takes for teams, like you can see it
00:25:16throughout the history of the NBA, you have
00:25:18to go through the struggles to climb over
00:25:20the mountain, Luka's right now
00:25:22getting shit on and rightfully so
00:25:24I wouldn't sell my Luka stock
00:25:26but that was pathetic last night
00:25:28yeah it was really bad and it got so
00:25:30bad that even Mavs fans, they were like we can't
00:25:32we can't defend this, you can't
00:25:34it was bad, it was that
00:25:36back to back series, it's actually
00:25:38we can't Luka this
00:25:40we can't defend, no we
00:25:42can Luka this, we can Luka
00:25:44this, we're going to Luka this right now
00:25:46meaning we're not going to defend it, we're not going to defend it
00:25:48yeah and on those back to back
00:25:50threes that he missed
00:25:52and then flopped on, at least
00:25:54one of which led to a quick basket
00:25:56at the other end, the flops
00:25:58were just, they were insane
00:26:00it looked like he got hit by a train
00:26:02in midair, it was so stupid, so he
00:26:04would take the shot and then go fully
00:26:06horizontal and then bitch
00:26:08at the referees for about 40 feet
00:26:10and be like oh shit I gotta play defense
00:26:12oh it's too late to play defense
00:26:14it was bad and
00:26:16there are compilations, we've reached Luka
00:26:18compilation season, where you're now
00:26:20able to take these three games and to put together
00:26:22a highlight reel of Luka's
00:26:24perimeter defense and just watch
00:26:26how bad it's been, how bad it's been
00:26:28he's getting blown by, yeah
00:26:30you should shut up for this part, we're talking
00:26:32Max can you mute Hank real quick
00:26:34cut Hank's mic
00:26:36you have enough going on, you can't
00:26:38just let us talk
00:26:40about Luka for a minute
00:26:42so now I forgot where
00:26:44I was because Hank interrupted me
00:26:46to join the dogpile, oh yeah
00:26:48the compilation, the compilation
00:26:50of his defense, you could
00:26:52make the argument that their defense
00:26:54is designed
00:26:56with Luka in mind, where he's gonna get
00:26:58blown by and then you've got Derek Lively and some
00:27:00other guys down there that are quick to pick
00:27:02up a guy that's driving, but it also
00:27:04throws off the entire rotation where you get
00:27:06two passes, now you've got an open three
00:27:08and so his defense isn't just about
00:27:10a guy getting past him and getting to the
00:27:12basket, but it makes everybody else
00:27:14on defense have to work so much harder
00:27:16and still lose
00:27:18I'm not even like
00:27:20Luka's defense, we know it's not
00:27:22elite, his offense is
00:27:24but more than just Luka's defense
00:27:26it's just more of a testament to the Celtics
00:27:28having no holes, they don't have a guy
00:27:30who can
00:27:32you can sag off of, they don't
00:27:34have a guy that you can basically say we're gonna
00:27:36ignore them, they don't have a guy that
00:27:38you can put your worst defender on
00:27:40and say he's gonna be okay
00:27:42they have top to bottom guys
00:27:44that can get their own bucket, that can make a
00:27:46three pointer, that can defend on the other
00:27:48end and that's why they're
00:27:50gonna be the champions of
00:27:52the NBA probably
00:27:54tonight and that's
00:27:56a testament to them more than
00:27:58as much as last night was about Luka
00:28:00I don't wanna just have it be all
00:28:02like shit on Luka, it's also
00:28:04the Celtics are just that much
00:28:06better and they're that good of a team
00:28:08you know what I mean?
00:28:10Can I say one tweet that I saw that was
00:28:12I thought very funny that, and I love
00:28:14Wendy, I love love Wendy, but I
00:28:16I'm gonna say it, and I love
00:28:18Wendy. One person
00:28:20did quote to me and he said, damn that's fat on
00:28:22fat crime, and I laughed
00:28:24It's a good point. I laughed a little
00:28:26bit. That's a fair point. That's more of a shot at
00:28:28Luka by the way. But listen, don't
00:28:30go at Wendy. Wendy said nothing
00:28:32wrong. Wendy, in fact,
00:28:34people don't realize how powerful Brian
00:28:36Windhorse is. I would make the argument that
00:28:38LeBron is just a Wendy merchant.
00:28:40That Wendy made LeBron, not
00:28:42the other way around.
00:28:44I'm legitimately
00:28:46happy for Wendy in the second
00:28:48part of his career when everyone
00:28:50thought that all he could do was cover LeBron
00:28:52and he is, cause he does
00:28:54this every now and then, where he will go
00:28:56hard on someone and it will always be facts
00:28:58and you don't
00:29:00see it that often in traditional
00:29:02journalism, in traditional sports
00:29:04media, because everyone wants their access
00:29:06everyone wants to be friendly with
00:29:08the players
00:29:10I mean we're literally walking
00:29:12that's what we do
00:29:14but Wendy
00:29:16when he decides that he's gonna go for it
00:29:18it's always factual and it's not like
00:29:20malicious or personal
00:29:22it's just this is what has occurred
00:29:24and this is what needs to be fixed
00:29:26and I love when he does it because there's very
00:29:28few guys that have the balls to do what
00:29:30Wendy did
00:29:32and
00:29:34Hank, you can rejoin the
00:29:36conversation
00:29:38what were your thoughts on last night? I mean that was
00:29:40even in the first
00:29:42six minutes of the game, I thought
00:29:44that this was gonna be the Mavs night
00:29:46like they came out
00:29:48and they were up like 13
00:29:50and then it felt like there was a weird shift
00:29:52in the universe and it happened to
00:29:54side with Max trying to run up the score
00:29:56on you via text message
00:29:58four minutes into the game
00:30:00which was just
00:30:02watch one NBA game Max
00:30:04you were also joining in
00:30:06barely
00:30:08I said the Tatum
00:30:10shot that shot
00:30:1217 pieces of the rim
00:30:14and then you said
00:30:16oh no Max you should give him updates
00:30:18yeah because I want to see you
00:30:20fail all the time
00:30:22Max, how many updates
00:30:24did I give?
00:30:26just as many as I did
00:30:28that's a lie, that's a lie, go look at it
00:30:30I did not give any updates
00:30:32I started to give good Celtics updates
00:30:34the only update I gave was the Tatum
00:30:36this is hard to hear
00:30:38find me the updates PFT
00:30:40what did I say? I said the Tatum shot because that was a funny shot
00:30:42Hank you have to admit that was a funny shot
00:30:44it hit like 17 parts
00:30:46of the rim
00:30:48I mean again the first quarter
00:30:50to your point it was
00:30:52text messages off the
00:30:54Yang and then I started watching the game and they
00:30:56almost instantly started coming back
00:31:00the first text I saw was from
00:31:02Max to Hank he says drink
00:31:04a water
00:31:06well that was at like 2 o'clock when he was like
00:31:08oh my god I didn't know the Phillies lost
00:31:10to the Red Sox
00:31:12okay this is from Max 750
00:31:14hey Hank I don't know if you can watch the game
00:31:16but do you want me to give you updates?
00:31:18Big Cat probably should just to be safe
00:31:20me my cable is down
00:31:22can you tell me?
00:31:24PFT and I did the same thing
00:31:26my cable is totally down
00:31:28we want Max to get going
00:31:30Hank says I have them so I think that's Hank saying he doesn't need
00:31:32updates Max says well the Mavs look pretty good
00:31:34they're currently up 13
00:31:38they look good a lot of game left
00:31:40true there was a lot of game left
00:31:42Hank yeah I'm aware Max
00:31:446 point game a lot of game left Hank
00:31:46Big Cat Tatum just hit a
00:31:48swish 3 so pure
00:31:50that was the one that bounced on everything
00:31:52so pure don't think it touched the net
00:31:54Hank nice Max 2 point
00:31:56game Hank no quit
00:31:58I told you I was giving
00:32:00positive updates
00:32:02Celtics won congrats Hank
00:32:04but Hank is spelled H-A-B-K
00:32:06so I gave one update
00:32:08but none of my updates
00:32:10were done I only gave
00:32:12one negative update
00:32:14you tried to see
00:32:16fact or fiction you started texting Hank
00:32:18because I thought it was going to be the Mavs night
00:32:20too but you started texting
00:32:22Hank when they were up 13
00:32:24and the crowd was rocking and you're like
00:32:26this is going to be awesome
00:32:28yeah well also Hank
00:32:30was having such a good night it was such bullshit
00:32:32oh after Max said drink a water
00:32:34Hank says I didn't even get drunk tonight
00:32:36I drove high on life
00:32:38I got back my phone died so I didn't really have my phone
00:32:40I drove like an hour home
00:32:42finally got home at like midnight and was just you know
00:32:44basking in all of the
00:32:46clips and highlights and tweets and stuff
00:32:48and then before so probably like that took an hour
00:32:50before I went to bed I just went on the score app
00:32:52and I had no idea
00:32:54the Red Sox were even playing the Phillies
00:32:56and seeing the score that the Red Sox
00:32:58beat the Phillies just
00:33:00was a cherry on top of a beautiful night
00:33:02Phillies were also up like 5-1 and I tweeted that this is going to be the best
00:33:04team of all time
00:33:06hard to keep track of all of Hank's dubs
00:33:08and then they got smoked again the night
00:33:10the only other game thing that I noticed
00:33:12I was watching some of the replay
00:33:14before we recorded
00:33:16because I was watching on my phone
00:33:18basically until the fourth quarter then I was watching in a bar
00:33:20so I wasn't you know as fully locked in
00:33:22when the Mavs came back Jason Kidd called a
00:33:24timeout when they had all of the
00:33:26momentum I think they were they got
00:33:28cut the lead to three and he called
00:33:30the timeout for seemingly no reason
00:33:32and that was kind of it like the Celtics
00:33:34the Luka I think fouled
00:33:36out right after that and the Celtics pulled away
00:33:38they also should have called a foul
00:33:40a loose ball foul when he just
00:33:42ran over Jalen Brown they didn't
00:33:44you got the illegal screen
00:33:46you got the illegal screen which was
00:33:48a horrendous call and they had been
00:33:50letting everything go all night
00:33:52and that ended the game
00:33:54the Celtics were on their heels
00:33:56he put his shoulder into the guy's neck
00:33:58that was a make up call
00:34:00he did have an illegal screen
00:34:02they basically did the same play coming down the court
00:34:04a possession before they didn't call it
00:34:06probably told him like don't do it again he did it again they called it
00:34:08so is it a make up
00:34:10foul or did he put his shoulder into his neck
00:34:12both
00:34:14the
00:34:16the Celtics did
00:34:18it was bizarre they were cruising
00:34:20that third quarter they were cruising
00:34:22and they were just driving
00:34:24and getting to the rack
00:34:26you know kicking out for open threes
00:34:28and then there was a six
00:34:30minute stretch where they just stopped doing that
00:34:32playing with their food
00:34:34vintage old Celtics
00:34:36it was crazy just watching it being like
00:34:38you guys were doing something that the Mavs could not
00:34:40stop and then you just decided to stop doing it
00:34:42and then they did it at the end and Jalen
00:34:44Brown will probably be the finals
00:34:46MVP would you say
00:34:48I think right now
00:34:50it's probably like 60-40 Jalen Brown
00:34:52but I think game four could swing it
00:34:54either way to who
00:34:56like if Jason Tatum
00:34:58goes off for like 40
00:35:00or triple double or something
00:35:02he has a shot
00:35:04he's shooting like 8%
00:35:06he has a shot if you look at the odds
00:35:08if you look at the odds Max I think Las Vegas
00:35:10knows a little bit better than Max
00:35:12Las Vegas has him
00:35:14I think that he's the second most likely to get MVP
00:35:16at what
00:35:18at getting MVP
00:35:20but at what odds
00:35:22I can pull it up right now it's not that far
00:35:24it's not that crazy but
00:35:26it's definitely Jalen
00:35:28but Jalen Brown
00:35:30second half like that he took over
00:35:32oh did you see when
00:35:34they were reviewing the challenge
00:35:36when Luka was fouling out
00:35:38there was a moment where Luka was just
00:35:40staring at the referee and you could see the look
00:35:42on his face like
00:35:44oh fuck I shouldn't have talked all this shit
00:35:46to referees my entire career
00:35:48do you know him
00:35:50him saying like oh you're gonna give me
00:35:52six fouls in the finals like dude you
00:35:54fouled six times probably more
00:35:56and the ref that's reviewing
00:35:58it I'm not saying that he's gonna
00:36:00hold something personal against Luka and if
00:36:02it's not a foul call it a foul but if
00:36:04it's close fuck him
00:36:06it's our Luka flow chart that we said
00:36:08a week ago if he hits a shot
00:36:10he'll yell at someone in the crowd
00:36:12and flex and stare at them
00:36:14and if he misses a shot
00:36:16he'll be like I got fouled
00:36:18and start screaming at the ref and slowly
00:36:20get back on defense that's how it goes
00:36:22every single possession
00:36:24we should maybe lay off Luka for
00:36:26a second because I think that there's something else
00:36:28that we need to discuss maybe the reason why
00:36:30Luka is being the way that he is and
00:36:32a guy named baker baker baker pointed this
00:36:34out on twitter Luka hasn't won
00:36:36a game or really played well at all since they
00:36:38took the beer out of his hand
00:36:40that was Michael Finley
00:36:42the western conference finals Luka
00:36:44had a beer Finley walks by
00:36:46sees Luka drinking a beer in the celebration
00:36:48grabs it out of his hand walks away and
00:36:50Luka's just standing there hanging his head
00:36:52you gotta let Luka drink
00:36:54does the man have a beer?
00:36:56well he's had good games
00:36:58he just sells his beer better
00:37:00I mean game 2 he was awesome
00:37:02game 1 he was good
00:37:04yeah he's played well but
00:37:06I guess I'm more colored by the last
00:37:08the last half that I saw Luka play
00:37:10and how bad it was
00:37:12it was pathetic
00:37:14Jalen Brown's minus 280 Jason Tatum's plus 250
00:37:16so yeah
00:37:18it's gonna be Jalen Brown
00:37:20thank you to DraftKings
00:37:22okay let's talk some
00:37:24other things anything else Hank you're
00:37:26about to raise banner 18 and shave
00:37:28your head yeah I'm excited
00:37:30great time to be alive
00:37:32love you guys
00:37:34US Open
00:37:36we have Patrick
00:37:38Cantlie in first or no
00:37:40Rory's tied with him
00:37:42Rory's tied with him
00:37:44people mad about what do they
00:37:46keep saying borderline the course is
00:37:48borderline
00:37:50other big notes I had from this
00:37:52is Brooks having his
00:37:54text interview
00:37:56was one of the funniest things
00:37:58I've ever read if people missed it Brooks
00:38:00skipped his media today
00:38:02after the round and
00:38:04Iman Lynch texted him a golf
00:38:06reporter basically being like
00:38:08hey you skipped your interview would you
00:38:10would you want to do an interview over text
00:38:12and Brooks said sure go ahead fire away
00:38:14and they went back and forth
00:38:16and it was very funny because Brooks
00:38:18essentially was like you guys ask really boring
00:38:20questions about the course
00:38:22and oh you know when you bogeyed that
00:38:24hole do you think you should have shot something different
00:38:26and they went back and forth
00:38:28and back and forth and
00:38:30Brooks was just brutally honest and it
00:38:32was very funny including
00:38:34I'm going to read my favorite part
00:38:36well one Iman
00:38:38tried to correct Brooks
00:38:40he said your instead of your
00:38:42so you know
00:38:44Y-O-U-R instead of Y-O-U-R-E
00:38:46and Brooks just said thanks dad
00:38:48back to him but he
00:38:50Iman
00:38:52was like oh you're
00:38:54trying to feel bad for yourself you got a pity
00:38:56party what are you going to do after this
00:38:58and Brooks
00:39:00I'm going to try to find the exact clip
00:39:02he tried to tell him he asked him if he
00:39:04was going to take a nap and he said
00:39:06no that's my son I'm not going to
00:39:08take a nap and then the best line that
00:39:10Brooks had was
00:39:12Jenna's working out and I'm doing my routine
00:39:14have a dip in and I'm going to get ready for the
00:39:16hockey game and
00:39:18I want more of these Brooks interviews
00:39:20via text because I feel like he's way more honest
00:39:22go pee you might as well just answer it all
00:39:24with go pees yeah he started texting
00:39:26before each after each round
00:39:28yeah really really undercut
00:39:30the mainstream media I love how Brooks was
00:39:32just like well your questions aren't
00:39:34creative enough and he's like okay so what
00:39:36what kind of uncreative questions are you being
00:39:38what's the most creative question that you've been asked
00:39:40and the best example that he had was
00:39:42somebody asked me about the grass
00:39:44yeah
00:39:46like what do you think about Bermuda grass
00:39:48yeah it's it was a perfect
00:39:50back and forth because I don't think
00:39:52like Brooks wasn't being mean
00:39:54it was just he's like yeah I didn't
00:39:56really want to do the interview you guys asked the same
00:39:58questions what do you want me to do
00:40:00and the guy was kind of
00:40:02pushing back and I think it was like a
00:40:04funny back and forth I liked it and we need
00:40:06more of it people are people can be
00:40:08a little bit meaner via text and they can face
00:40:10to face yeah it worked out well
00:40:12but Rory played very well today
00:40:14uh Max played okay
00:40:16but Rory now that Rory's
00:40:18back he's totally back the relationship
00:40:20has been mended that was news that
00:40:22came out like last week what
00:40:24yeah yeah he not
00:40:26I thought that was a fake they called off the divorce
00:40:28like a fake golf thing
00:40:30no we should have known this there's nobody
00:40:32melts down like a golfer that's going through a divorce
00:40:34that's just it's always if you go through a
00:40:36divorce you lose like five strokes off your
00:40:38game now that he's back
00:40:40he's having the makeup sex and the makeup
00:40:42sex is propelling him
00:40:44to get in the hole wait so he
00:40:46essentially said he was going
00:40:48to get divorced so that he could go hook up
00:40:50with a couple chicks for like a month
00:40:52who knows
00:40:54what a what a move
00:40:56it was a fake divorce are you saying it was a fake
00:40:58divorce maybe no I'm saying
00:41:00he probably had intentions
00:41:02of divorcing
00:41:04and then
00:41:06hooked up with some chicks
00:41:08I was like nah actually I don't really
00:41:10I'm good yeah he
00:41:12started dating one crazy chick yeah
00:41:14like I'm good I'd rather yeah
00:41:16I'd rather just have my family
00:41:18he's been out of the game for a long time right they
00:41:20got married a while ago 10 15 years
00:41:22something like that so the games
00:41:24changed a lot since then he's
00:41:26probably not equipped to handle
00:41:28sexting
00:41:30married in 2017
00:41:32not even close
00:41:34they were together for a while before that I thought
00:41:36I'm not I'm gonna be honest I'm not
00:41:38a big I'm not really up on Rory
00:41:40McIlroy's love life
00:41:42I'll be I'll hand up
00:41:44that's a sports story that I've
00:41:46missed did you guys
00:41:48see his final putt yeah he
00:41:50was sick
00:41:52he walked it in with like five feet to
00:41:54go and it never out of doubt
00:41:56Hank I also want to say that
00:41:58it's a little
00:42:00cool that we played mid buttons
00:42:02thank you
00:42:04you're welcome you're welcome
00:42:06a couple times today I was watching
00:42:08I was like oh I remember that hole yeah
00:42:10no way I was 10 miles away yeah
00:42:12no but there was a couple times where I saw it in
00:42:14the straw and I was like
00:42:16hmm what would what would I
00:42:18do oh I actually did it driver off the
00:42:20deck that's what they should
00:42:22do here same soil
00:42:24the same grass I could answer
00:42:26to Iman's questions about the grass
00:42:28I actually was so much a lot
00:42:30green talk it's all about the green
00:42:32borderline I saw
00:42:34someone saying that
00:42:36better
00:42:38than Pinehurst to that Pinehurst
00:42:40to isn't even close to the best Pinehurst
00:42:42I think there's only one way to find
00:42:44out I think we have to go to Pinehurst and play them
00:42:46all and rank them not Rushmore
00:42:48this was
00:42:50from Mark Calvecchia
00:42:52he was a pro
00:42:54said I'm I'm ready for some abuse
00:42:56just gonna spit it out Pinehurst is such a
00:42:58cool area with great courses number
00:43:00two ain't one of them most overrated
00:43:02course in the world let me have it but it's true
00:43:04and then a bunch of people replied
00:43:06and we're like yeah one in four
00:43:08better mid pines is better
00:43:10and I was sitting there pumping my fist and like
00:43:12that's us we played mid pines
00:43:14I agree I think mid pines is
00:43:16way better way better way tougher
00:43:18better better test
00:43:20yep I love the test
00:43:22talk whenever they say it's a great test
00:43:24what they've done out here none of us
00:43:26none of us shot 500 at mid pines
00:43:28no no and they're
00:43:30just bending this course over but I
00:43:32hope that the scores don't stay this low I hope
00:43:34I hope the course comes out a little bit it's gonna bake out
00:43:36later on this week right yeah
00:43:38it's gonna it's gonna it's gonna
00:43:40get harder can it become more borderline
00:43:42firmer
00:43:44no I think it goes over the line if
00:43:46it's border if it's it's more anything more
00:43:48borderline is officially over the line
00:43:50right that's what I was thinking but I've only heard people
00:43:52say borderline right but it
00:43:54it could then get yeah over the line
00:43:56I need to be over the line
00:43:58I would like to go over the line
00:44:00uh yeah Brooks said
00:44:02that when uh
00:44:04when he said so if we hear anyone
00:44:06say the course is borderline
00:44:08and they're just whining he said no I don't think they're whining the U.S.
00:44:10Open always comes close to the line
00:44:12it's just a matter of does it get
00:44:14crossed
00:44:16I want it to get crossed
00:44:18cross that line I want to get it crossed
00:44:20uh yeah well
00:44:22I'm excited it's a good leaderboard
00:44:24to start we also had our
00:44:26uh 20 minutes to Tiger
00:44:28where everyone was like oh my
00:44:30God look at him he's
00:44:32doing it uh and then he
00:44:34wasn't but it was fun
00:44:3620 minutes to Tiger yeah
00:44:38got to see his name for a little bit
00:44:40Scottie played like ass today well
00:44:42Scottie uh
00:44:44and this is how you know when Scottie
00:44:46does his interviews and
00:44:48he says you know
00:44:50all I care about is my wife my family
00:44:52my relationship with God like none
00:44:54of this matters to me I'm just a regular guy
00:44:56most of the time
00:44:58when athletes say stuff like that
00:45:00I think it's just a little cliche
00:45:02they're putting it on thick
00:45:04Scottie's haircut
00:45:06it's the facts
00:45:08he only cares about those things cause
00:45:10I don't know who cut his hair before
00:45:12but did you guys see it
00:45:14did you see the sideburns
00:45:16though yeah he got a nice
00:45:18fucked up
00:45:20that's how you know you're a golfer
00:45:22he doesn't care though that's my
00:45:24point like there's no way that you go out looking
00:45:26like that if you
00:45:28care about other things like looks and everything
00:45:30else alright so I thought the exact
00:45:32opposite of you with his haircut I thought
00:45:34Scottie definitely cares
00:45:36now Scottie cares about his appearance
00:45:38he's trying to get his swag up I thought
00:45:40he looked good he got the nice
00:45:42skin tight fade and when you're a golfer
00:45:44when you're a golfer that spends that much time out in
00:45:46the sun and you not only
00:45:48have the hat tan line but you've got
00:45:50the tan line from where all your hairs
00:45:52normally are on your head and then they
00:45:54cut him too close and you got that like little bit of white
00:45:56back there he kind of yeah he kind of
00:45:58got the little bit of Hank on the side
00:46:00I thought he looked great
00:46:02it's the opposite with
00:46:04his sunburn and
00:46:06the lack of color there because it means that he
00:46:08probably got a haircut last night and no
00:46:10one gets a haircut right before the tournament
00:46:12you know everyone knows
00:46:14a haircut takes at least
00:46:16like five to seven days
00:46:18to settle in right but you're proving
00:46:20my point because Scottie's never been a haircut guy
00:46:22and then no that's my point
00:46:24no this is the first time
00:46:26this is the first time where he's like
00:46:28I'm gonna look good at the US Open
00:46:30so I'm gonna get my haircut the day before
00:46:32I play meaning he's caring
00:46:34about all that other stuff now
00:46:36it means that he doesn't
00:46:38even think about like
00:46:40when you get a haircut right before the US Open
00:46:42he's not even thinking about it
00:46:44he's literally just like oh I need a haircut
00:46:46it doesn't matter what day it falls I don't care what I look like
00:46:48no I think he got the haircut
00:46:50to look good
00:46:52he doesn't look good though
00:46:54that's what he was thinking
00:46:56it was an attempt to look good
00:46:58and he's never been a swag guy
00:47:00so he doesn't have the experience to know that he's gotta get that haircut
00:47:02three days before
00:47:04he's got that jail
00:47:06swagger like he does have a little bit of
00:47:08bad boy flair he's like I gotta get a fade now
00:47:10there's no way you guys
00:47:12looked at his haircut
00:47:14and thought it looked good with the way
00:47:16the tan lines have worked out
00:47:18I thought the attempt at looking good
00:47:20it perked me up
00:47:22I was like wow Scott he's
00:47:24I don't think it's an attempt at looking good
00:47:26cause he's got a wife she could be like hey it looks bad
00:47:28he just doesn't care
00:47:30that's the whole point he doesn't care
00:47:32I respect a fade always
00:47:34it wasn't even a fade
00:47:36there's actually an official
00:47:38US Open barber
00:47:40named Monty the barber
00:47:42that's more than my point
00:47:44he literally saw a free haircut
00:47:46Tommy Fleetwood I'll show you guys right now
00:47:48the man saw a free haircut
00:47:50Tommy Fleetwood
00:47:52I think he saw the guys
00:47:54on tour that have style and he's like
00:47:56I wanna use their barber
00:47:58no he got a free haircut
00:48:00no this guy goes to every US Open since 2018
00:48:02I understand but it's a free haircut
00:48:04you don't get a haircut from
00:48:06no one who cares
00:48:08no one who cares about their hair
00:48:10no he doesn't
00:48:12he's just hanging on
00:48:14Tiger called up that news reporter
00:48:16and was like
00:48:18add my name to that story
00:48:20I want Tiger Woods to be
00:48:22the haircut story
00:48:24Tiger being in there is just completely wild
00:48:26no one
00:48:28gets if you're trying to look good
00:48:30you don't get a haircut
00:48:32from a guy you don't get a normal haircut from
00:48:34unless you're a guy that's never been a haircut guy
00:48:36and you're only using the dude
00:48:38that cuts all the other players
00:48:40he's gotten a haircut before
00:48:42yeah he does look great
00:48:44and I guarantee these guys pay for it
00:48:46I mean they probably tip
00:48:48this guy's getting to
00:48:50cut Monty the barber
00:48:52you can't tell me Scotty
00:48:54cares about what he looks like
00:48:56if he's getting a free haircut the day before the US Open
00:48:58I think he had a moment where he did care what he looked like
00:49:00and he fucked up by getting it too close
00:49:02yeah the Oilers just scored
00:49:04wait so you're admitting that it's a bad haircut
00:49:06if you say he fucked up
00:49:08I think it's not
00:49:10you just proved my point
00:49:12I didn't prove your point
00:49:14you said he fucked up
00:49:16no I said that he might have gone too close
00:49:18because he's never been a haircut guy
00:49:20I appreciate the attempt by Scotty but at the same time I'm like
00:49:22Scotty's trying to look stylish
00:49:24it did not look great
00:49:26the Oilers maybe have a chance here
00:49:284-3
00:49:30I've heard a lot of Scotty Sheffler haircut talk
00:49:32I think the people will bear me out on this one
00:49:34I think that Scotty was
00:49:36he was trying to do something
00:49:38might not have worked out but he made an attempt
00:49:40he does not care
00:49:42he does not care what he looks like
00:49:44I mean he looks like a 50 year old man
00:49:46and he's 26
00:49:48he cares about God, his wife, and golf
00:49:50and he doesn't really care about golf
00:49:52like he does but he doesn't
00:49:54because he'll say that after a round if he doesn't play well
00:49:56he's like I just care about God and my wife
00:49:58haircuts are very low on his list
00:50:00of things that he cares about
00:50:02alright we had
00:50:04Trevor Lawrence got a new contract
00:50:06275 million dollars
00:50:08thoughts?
00:50:10whenever a quarterback signs a big contract
00:50:12I always like to just jump ahead
00:50:14and think about the next contracts that are coming
00:50:16that's what you have to do when a quarterback signs
00:50:18it's like who gets more money now
00:50:20Dak's gonna get 300
00:50:22oh I cannot wait for the Brock Purdy
00:50:24discourse
00:50:26can't wait for that contract to come up
00:50:28because I mean he's basically Jason Tatum
00:50:30so he's a really really really good
00:50:32quarterback in the regular season
00:50:34hasn't won the big one yet
00:50:36not necessarily the best player on his own team
00:50:38but you're gonna have to pay a quarterback
00:50:40right?
00:50:42yeah I mean this is
00:50:44I still think Trevor Lawrence is a good quarterback
00:50:46he had a bad year
00:50:48and you just
00:50:50when you think that you have the guy
00:50:52and he might be the guy
00:50:54you have to pay him
00:50:56this is just the cost of doing business in the quarterback world
00:50:58just keeps going up and up and up
00:51:00and uh
00:51:02we won't make excuses during the regular season
00:51:04but after it's over
00:51:06I think we can say that Trevor Lawrence was one of the more injured quarterbacks
00:51:08throughout the course of the season
00:51:10just in terms of like trying to play through stuff
00:51:12it came out a little bit but
00:51:14he's still a very good quarterback
00:51:16and I would love to have a quarterback on my team
00:51:18for the long term
00:51:20we have better quarterbacks
00:51:22if Jadon Daniels was as good as Trevor Lawrence
00:51:24even at that low bar
00:51:26of my expectation for Jadon Daniels
00:51:28I'd say lock him up
00:51:30Hank would you take Drake May or Trevor Lawrence?
00:51:32Trevor Lawrence
00:51:34no Jadon May
00:51:36oh no he said it
00:51:38he said it
00:51:40I'd take Jadon for sure
00:51:42I'd take Caleb no questions
00:51:44not even a hesitation
00:51:46Hank's football team sucks
00:51:48we do need to
00:51:50we just need to get to the fall
00:51:52someone tweeted
00:51:54someone tweeted last night
00:51:56which I don't
00:51:58I'm lying I want it to happen
00:52:00what if Drake May is the Jason Tatum
00:52:02of you know
00:52:04a Markel Foltz
00:52:06like the draft he was third pick
00:52:08so he'd never be
00:52:10so Drake May would never be the best player on the Patriots
00:52:12yeah I mean if they're winning championships
00:52:14who cares
00:52:16I learned that last night over and over and over again
00:52:18it wasn't about how great Tom Brady was
00:52:20it was how great he was as a leader
00:52:22he showed up every day he recognized everyone's name
00:52:24so yes that means
00:52:26it was about how great Tom Brady was
00:52:28yeah I'm pretty sure it was
00:52:30about how great Tom Brady was
00:52:32but all the players
00:52:34talked about how great he was
00:52:36Vince Wulfork said how great he was
00:52:38as good as he was a football player
00:52:40he was a better guy
00:52:42I apologize for bringing this back up
00:52:44but that's still Tom Brady being great
00:52:46I disagree with that statement
00:52:48Tom Brady is one of those people
00:52:50who you can absolutely say
00:52:52he's a better football player than he is a person
00:52:54I disagree
00:52:56how can you disagree
00:52:58well Hank's basically his family
00:53:00did he try to make out with you
00:53:02it's not a slight on him
00:53:04he was staring at me though pretty hard
00:53:06he was looking through my soul
00:53:08you think Tom Brady is at the top
00:53:10like .0001%
00:53:12of people
00:53:14human beings
00:53:16I think he's the best person ever
00:53:18who's the GOAT person
00:53:20oh
00:53:22maybe possibly
00:53:24possibly John Daly
00:53:26yeah Bill Walton
00:53:28okay the other
00:53:30shout out to Pug
00:53:34shout out Pug
00:53:36way to go Pug
00:53:38Pug also got tickets to the Cubs game
00:53:40that has been resolved
00:53:42Pug is now our official
00:53:44plug he's Pug the plug
00:53:46and if you need anything you just ask Pug
00:53:48and then he'll ask for you
00:53:50he'll find the right person and get it for you
00:53:52yes absolutely
00:53:54alright so we're watching the last minute 49
00:53:56of the Oilers Panthers game
00:53:58I really would love for the Oilers
00:54:00to tie this up so that we could get
00:54:02this would be such a bummer if we got
00:54:04two sweeps
00:54:06I know
00:54:08shut up Hank
00:54:10it's so quick PFT
00:54:12I actually was happy for him yesterday
00:54:14and I love Hank
00:54:16and it's his birthday
00:54:18and I love the guy
00:54:20but as soon as I see him
00:54:22and he starts opening his mouth
00:54:24I don't know why I say I love him
00:54:26we just have to wait for PFT
00:54:28I realize I talked more in the beginning of this show
00:54:30than I've ever talked in this show's history
00:54:32and I think the reviews
00:54:34and ratings are going to show that
00:54:36but that's fine
00:54:38we got to get to September
00:54:40once we get to September
00:54:46McGregor UFC cancelled
00:54:48yep
00:54:50it felt like this was going to happen
00:54:52yeah that sucks
00:54:54probably should have known
00:54:56Jerry Projalka
00:54:58nailed it
00:55:00we probably should have known
00:55:02this was going to happen
00:55:04when McGregor was at the club
00:55:06two weeks ago
00:55:08like beyond fucked up
00:55:10and oh no not an empty netter goal
00:55:12we should have known at that point I think PFT
00:55:14yeah it seemed like it for a while
00:55:16and when they're cancelling press conferences
00:55:18and weigh-ins
00:55:20getting delayed and shit
00:55:22it felt like it was never going to happen
00:55:24I want to know what actually went down though
00:55:26do they have some sort of reality show
00:55:28that's following UFC around
00:55:30I saw some clips of Dana White
00:55:32I saw that clip where they told Jon Jones
00:55:34that he was out for a year
00:55:36and that seemed like it was behind the scenes camera
00:55:38that might have been a rerun too
00:55:40well no it was for injury
00:55:42not for suspension
00:55:44yes
00:55:46the writers really went fucking dummy with that one
00:55:48yeah
00:55:50I had two last things
00:55:52one was Dan Hurley did a long interview
00:55:54with Matt Norlander from CBS
00:55:56and I wanted to share
00:55:58just a couple quotes with you guys
00:56:00because I thought it was very funny
00:56:02the first one
00:56:04so it was just talking about his entire process
00:56:06the whirlwind, everything that happened
00:56:08the first one was he was asked
00:56:10did you seek out
00:56:12or try and seek out Mike Krzyzewski at all
00:56:14because he turned down the Lakers 20 years ago
00:56:16under different circumstances
00:56:18Dan Hurley said no
00:56:20I was so overwhelmed at a point I was a little paralyzed
00:56:22I appreciate Dan Hurley basically saying
00:56:24that was him saying
00:56:26I knew what Coach K was trying to do here
00:56:28and I wasn't going to talk to the guy
00:56:30who set me up
00:56:32so that was nice
00:56:34the other one that was great
00:56:36was he was talking about the process
00:56:38and running into people throughout it
00:56:40he talked to a great story about how
00:56:42outside the Billy Joel concert
00:56:44he saw a woman that
00:56:46her husband, they were best friends
00:56:48growing up
00:56:50and the woman was like you're not LA, you're Jersey
00:56:52you can't do this, you can't leave
00:56:54anyway, Matt Norlander said
00:56:56wait, you were eating breakfast out in LA
00:56:58and he said yeah
00:57:00driving by on bikes and double taking you
00:57:02yelling something about the Lakers
00:57:04walking out of the workout room at the hotel
00:57:06the day I was meeting with them after getting my cardio in
00:57:08and I'm literally rounding the corner
00:57:10and there's a med student, a UConn student
00:57:12who's there as part of a bridal party
00:57:14who's bending the corner and I almost knock into her
00:57:16and we kind of make eye contact
00:57:18we both keep walking and then she recognizes me and comes back
00:57:20she says hey Coach, I go to UConn, don't go
00:57:22I'm here for a wedding, you're not going
00:57:24are you? I know why you're here
00:57:26it was weird, just weird weird stuff
00:57:28Billy Football's interaction
00:57:30is definitely one of those weird weird things
00:57:32he's one of the people yelling stuff at you
00:57:34yes, yeah that's one of his
00:57:36I was out there just trying to have a mimosa
00:57:38and tank a job interview and next thing
00:57:40I know I got this guy, he says he's a professional
00:57:42boxer with hands that could kill a man
00:57:44and he's asking me questions about
00:57:46if I'm going to take the
00:57:48Lakers job and I just look at him and tell him to be quiet
00:57:50and next thing I know I'm getting linked to this job
00:57:52you know it's being
00:57:54reported
00:57:56and the last one I wanted to say
00:57:58which made me laugh
00:58:00he was asked about the Billy Joel concert
00:58:02and
00:58:04the reporter asked
00:58:06I want to stick on two more questions with the Billy Joel concert
00:58:08one, did you know who Trey Anastasio
00:58:10was when he came on
00:58:12were you remotely aware of the rarity of what was
00:58:14happening there, any thoughts of Trey's
00:58:16guest spots with Billy
00:58:18and Dan Hurley said I was not, I had no idea
00:58:20who that was, so Fish, he's a guitarist
00:58:22for Fish, I love that
00:58:24I don't want Dan Hurley to know who Fish is
00:58:26it's fucking perfect that he had no
00:58:28idea who Trey was. Yeah that's classic
00:58:30coach shit where they don't, like when Belichick used
00:58:32to not understand what Snapface
00:58:34or the other one was, I forget
00:58:36what he called like Instagram
00:58:38but yeah I want my coaches to be as completely
00:58:40untethered from nature as possible
00:58:42just absolute psychos, I have a
00:58:44theory that I've been mulling over
00:58:46today about this whole
00:58:48Dan Hurley thing, see if you can follow me on this one
00:58:50if I'm just being like way over my skis
00:58:54ESPN announced today that
00:58:56JJ Redick was now interviewing with the Los
00:58:58Angeles Lakers for the head
00:59:00coaching position, call me crazy
00:59:02I think I read something about that
00:59:04like a week and a half ago
00:59:06when Shams reported it
00:59:10Dan Hurley and Woj are
00:59:12great friends
00:59:14do you think that there's any chance that Woj
00:59:16was pissed off
00:59:18that Shams beat him to a Lakers story
00:59:20and then he called the
00:59:22Lakers and was like what if you interview Dan Hurley
00:59:24I can get him on the phone
00:59:26that way Woj could get Dan Hurley
00:59:28out to LA, report that
00:59:30then after that was over, Woj
00:59:32could then break the news about JJ
00:59:34probably taking the Lakers job
00:59:36Okay I like the
00:59:38thinking, it's a free thinking
00:59:40thought, my only
00:59:42question would be why would the Lakers
00:59:44willingly get embarrassed
00:59:46publicly for just
00:59:48Woj? Woj might have set this whole thing up
00:59:50maybe Woj
00:59:52so the Lakers
00:59:54the Lakers were about to
00:59:56hire JJ Redick and then
00:59:58go ahead
01:00:00I saw something that Shams
01:00:02is in Clutch's pocket
01:00:04Woj is in Palenka's pocket
01:00:06and Palenka used
01:00:08Woj about Hurley to
01:00:10give them leverage in the JJ
01:00:12negotiations
01:00:14Okay that makes more sense
01:00:16That could be possible but what I
01:00:18was saying is that maybe Woj
01:00:20told the Lakers I can deliver
01:00:22Dan Hurley to you
01:00:24Woj didn't fully win
01:00:26here because did you see Shams
01:00:28doing a little bit of a victory lap
01:00:30saying he
01:00:32kind of went back at Woj and was like yeah
01:00:34Dan Hurley was I guess the
01:00:36Dan Hurley was the first choice
01:00:38I guess
01:00:40Shams was kind of dunking back on
01:00:42Woj because they didn't hire Dan Hurley
01:00:44Woj ended up not being right
01:00:46he just had a week where
01:00:48he looked like he was
01:00:50getting it over Shams
01:00:52Woj was right that they were interviewing Dan Hurley
01:00:54he didn't say that Dan was going to get the job
01:00:56and if I was Shams I would do the exact same
01:00:58thing because you had that story and then
01:01:00there was like a speed bump and now it's back to
01:01:02your story again
01:01:04I think Hanks is more likely
01:01:06because if Woj told
01:01:08Rob Palenka I can deliver Dan Hurley
01:01:10LeBron wanted J.J.
01:01:12Palenka didn't want to give J.J. that
01:01:14after the interview
01:01:16Dan Hurley said no thanks
01:01:18then Woj had to be like oh my bad I thought
01:01:20he wanted this job he had a change of heart
01:01:22but what Hanks saying makes way more sense because
01:01:24Palenka wanted to pay J.J.
01:01:26less and LeBron wanted
01:01:28J.J. but they didn't want
01:01:30to seem like they were just going to hire whoever
01:01:32LeBron wanted they wanted to
01:01:34go out and say hey we're going to hire
01:01:36Dan Hurley also Dan Hurley
01:01:38is a fucking awesome coach they probably wanted to hire Dan Hurley
01:01:40probably yeah
01:01:42yeah
01:01:44the most likely explanation is that
01:01:46they wanted Dan Hurley he said no
01:01:48now they're going to go with J.J. but
01:01:50what if Woj just controls the entire
01:01:52NBA
01:01:54that could be true
01:01:56I do love and they'll never
01:01:58there's never
01:02:00there's no market for it and they'll never
01:02:02be completely honest but it was
01:02:04like this with Schefter and Rappaport
01:02:06and now it's Woj and Choms like
01:02:08I just love thinking
01:02:10about how mad they get
01:02:12at stuff like when Choms is
01:02:14on ESPN saying like I
01:02:16guess like they're just
01:02:18reporters and there will never be an actual reality
01:02:20show for them and they would never actually show how
01:02:22mad they are but like he was
01:02:24he probably threw something like that
01:02:26that little comment that little comment
01:02:28got him as mad as anything could in the
01:02:30world and like Rappaport and Schefter like that shit
01:02:32used to be so juicy
01:02:34and they would get so mad at each other and so many
01:02:36like sub shots and everything it's great
01:02:38and I
01:02:40imagine when Woj first announced the
01:02:42Dan Hurley thing Choms
01:02:44was sitting in his parents I think he still
01:02:46lives at home parents kitchen and like his mom was
01:02:48like here's your breakfast she's like no mom
01:02:50not right now like
01:02:52I just missed a scoop
01:02:54yeah it's awesome it's awesome like the
01:02:56John Clayton commercial the ESPN
01:02:58commercial yeah
01:03:00okay Oilers
01:03:02just lost Panthers
01:03:04on the brink as well we're going to get two
01:03:06sweeps this was the game
01:03:08that the Oilers were going to win if they were
01:03:10going to win a game because it was game three back
01:03:12in Edmonton did you see that Florida
01:03:14had flight problems they didn't get into
01:03:16late last night Edmonton had
01:03:18been there for two days
01:03:20it's over I just
01:03:22need more sports
01:03:24get ready to learn
01:03:26only buddy I need more sports right
01:03:28now and I do like baseball
01:03:30but it's too early for me to just only pay
01:03:32attention to baseball yeah
01:03:34baseball is a great sport to pay attention to
01:03:36with like 50% of your attention
01:03:38going to a different sport well
01:03:40I have one other sports story we could
01:03:42talk about
01:03:44memes Aaron Rodgers
01:03:46he's just taking a week off so there's
01:03:48no problem there's no
01:03:50there's so much there's so little
01:03:52of a problem we've had
01:03:5415 stories about how there's no problem
01:03:56there's no problem the problem is
01:03:58Robert Sala handled the situation
01:04:00wrong it sounds like a problem that sounds like
01:04:02a problem it's a problem but it's not
01:04:04a problem but what does that mean
01:04:06it's a riddle
01:04:08yeah
01:04:10also is he the only
01:04:12quarterback starting quarterback who's not in
01:04:14minicamp right now
01:04:16mandatory minicamp yes
01:04:18oh what that word mandatory
01:04:20you just used yeah what what was
01:04:22that word what does that mean
01:04:24that's when teams can start finding
01:04:26players for missing yeah
01:04:28so interesting when I brought
01:04:30this up on the last show you
01:04:32said it wasn't a problem at all you said this
01:04:34was a Florio wet dream
01:04:36but then you just said right now
01:04:38it's half of a problem
01:04:40it is you might be half Florio
01:04:42no no
01:04:44no no no
01:04:46you sounded like a Florio right now
01:04:48no no no they just handled
01:04:50they handled it wrong the coaches
01:04:52handled it wrong the PR handled it wrong that's a
01:04:54problem it is a problem
01:04:56that's not a problem
01:04:58yeah you're becoming a Florio
01:05:00so wait I'm very confused because
01:05:02it sounds everything you just told me sounds
01:05:04like there's a problem here there's no problem
01:05:06as long as he's there for week one no
01:05:08problem so why are we talking about it then
01:05:10because there's a bunch of
01:05:12yappers out there just
01:05:14need something to talk about who started
01:05:16it though
01:05:18that'd be Bob
01:05:20Bob Bob who
01:05:22Bob Salah that's the coach
01:05:24of the Jets it's a coach of the Jets
01:05:26that's a problem
01:05:34I think no memes try to follow
01:05:36me on this one I think that
01:05:38Bob would not have talked
01:05:40about it being a problem
01:05:42if it wasn't a problem right
01:05:44so then now we got
01:05:46a couple problems
01:05:48maybe
01:05:50maybe Bob's not
01:05:52the best speaker up there which is
01:05:54bad for your head football coach
01:05:56that's a problem
01:05:58he's supposed to be a leader of men
01:06:00I've seen him do a few interviews he seems like a pretty good speaker
01:06:02I've seen him do
01:06:04a couple he's not the best speaker
01:06:06I think it's a problem
01:06:08I think that there might be a problem there
01:06:10there's no problem he's fine
01:06:12he's probably like
01:06:14I don't know
01:06:16at a charity event
01:06:18right
01:06:20he's at a charity event
01:06:24he's at a charity event
01:06:26for an organization
01:06:28that wants people to know as little about
01:06:30them as possible so that's why Aaron can't
01:06:32say what charity he's attending
01:06:34yeah it's under wraps right now
01:06:36he's working on some stuff and then it'll go public
01:06:38in the fall
01:06:40you got like a BBL or something
01:06:42laughing
01:06:44that would rock
01:06:46if he came back with a giant ass
01:06:48someone put it perfectly
01:06:50this is a listener
01:06:52KM Breslin1 he said
01:06:54it's such a non-problem that some are saying
01:06:56it's a problem how much of a problem
01:06:58others are making it when it's not a problem
01:07:00yeah it's not a problem
01:07:02but then it becomes a problem
01:07:04because people are making it so
01:07:06not a problem that it's crazy
01:07:08people are talking about it as a problem
01:07:10that in itself is a problem
01:07:12things are almost too perfect and then people are like
01:07:14why is this going so
01:07:16swimmingly that's an issue
01:07:18now we've got issues
01:07:20the Jets biggest problem
01:07:22might be that they have so many non-problems
01:07:24yeah
01:07:26they're making other teams jealous
01:07:28because they've got it so good
01:07:30all they do is talk about how there's not a problem
01:07:32when you see that
01:07:34you gotta think well is that a problem
01:07:36that there's just no tension whatsoever
01:07:38I saw some people making the point that
01:07:40Tom Brady missed a few of these camps
01:07:42as well over the course of his career
01:07:44so it shouldn't be that big of a deal or a problem
01:07:46that was also Tom Brady after he was
01:07:48winning Super Bowls with the team that he played with
01:07:50for years and years and years
01:07:52were the same players that he played with for years and years
01:07:54and years, yes memes?
01:07:56that was on the Bucs
01:07:58Tom Brady missed two weeks
01:08:00and then they won the Super Bowl
01:08:02yeah but he told them
01:08:04did he play more or fewer than five snaps for the Bucs
01:08:06that first year
01:08:08he played more
01:08:10he won a Super Bowl
01:08:12but Tom Brady told
01:08:14the Bucs in advance
01:08:16and they
01:08:18said it was excused
01:08:20so people are saying
01:08:22that if Aaron Rodgers
01:08:24actually did tell them in advance
01:08:26and then Robert Sala just went on
01:08:28onto the podium
01:08:30and blurted everything out on a Monday
01:08:32you know what I'm saying
01:08:34everything you say just seems
01:08:36it's just a big blinking problem
01:08:38that's all I see
01:08:40every time you open your mouth memes
01:08:42it's just problem
01:08:44he's fine
01:08:46Aaron Rodgers is fine
01:08:48Robert Sala
01:08:50just needs to shut up
01:08:52and we're fine
01:08:54Hank are you taking a picture of the side of your face
01:08:56to look at your haircut
01:08:58no I just felt a weird little bump
01:09:00oh everything okay
01:09:02I don't know
01:09:04just taking a picture
01:09:08ignore me sorry
01:09:10wow that would
01:09:12what a plot twist this episode would be
01:09:14I know
01:09:16holy shit
01:09:18it would be a real shame
01:09:20memes and Max are just sitting there rubbing their hands together
01:09:22right now
01:09:24memes don't fucking nod at that
01:09:26Jesus Christ dude
01:09:28he's fine Hank's fine too

01:11:24in studio
01:11:26okay we now welcome on two very
01:11:28special guests one recurring guest
01:11:30is Matt Barnes Stephen Jackson
01:11:32the guys from all the smoke
01:11:34incredible podcasters
01:11:36first of all congrats thank you
01:11:38I know last time we had you on Matt
01:11:40it was before all this yeah I was still in the
01:11:42NBA I think yeah back in your guys New York
01:11:44days yeah 2017 so
01:11:46I mean let's start with
01:11:48the podcast you guys have like blown up
01:11:50what I mean what's the
01:11:52big thing that has like resonated
01:11:54with people that you guys are like oh shit
01:11:56this is actually working we didn't really know what
01:11:58a podcast was at the time you know what I mean
01:12:00we just knew that we were both working at ESPN
01:12:02and Fox and it was fun but
01:12:04you know it was kind of a straight
01:12:06line and he and I like to
01:12:08draw outside the lines you know most of our lives
01:12:10so I pitched him the podcast idea
01:12:12he said what is it but I'm down
01:12:14I was like I don't know but I'll figure it out
01:12:16and we met Brian Daly
01:12:18Cole pitched him and
01:12:20they are just starting Showtime Basketball
01:12:22and Cole pitched him
01:12:24he liked it and man we
01:12:26took off in our first season we won
01:12:28sports podcast of the year wow
01:12:30wait who gave that out
01:12:32were we up for that
01:12:34if y'all didn't win it it's not a real award if y'all didn't win it
01:12:36no no I don't think so
01:12:38I mean if you ever listen to this show we shouldn't win
01:12:40no we should definitely never win everyday we wake
01:12:42up we're like how are we still allowed to do this
01:12:44were you guys surprised with how much
01:12:46work you had to put into it?
01:12:48it's a lot to get it off the ground
01:12:50but as I was explaining before we got on the air
01:12:52we bulk shoot so we'll
01:12:54shoot probably every 4 to 6
01:12:56weeks and we'll shoot in 2 or 3 days
01:12:58we'll shoot 6, 7, 8 shows and then
01:13:00just bank them and then as current events hit
01:13:02through any of our guests we'll blast
01:13:04that part but we still kind of have everybody slotted
01:13:06so to get it off the ground
01:13:08it was just a lot but I think now we kind of
01:13:10hit our rhythm we're in our 4th or 5th season
01:13:12or 5th year excuse me
01:13:14it's kind of like clockwork now
01:13:16where do you guys see it going from here?
01:13:20I'm looking around
01:13:22I'm looking at the blueprint
01:13:24that's why I'm just looking
01:13:26around seeing the direction we're trying to get to
01:13:28this is it
01:13:30obviously congratulations to you guys and everything you guys accomplished
01:13:32in this space and that's kind of our next goal
01:13:34we went from one show to
01:13:36signing a multi-year deal with
01:13:38DraftKings and partnering with Metal Ark
01:13:40and we put out 5 shows
01:13:42Q1 so we built a whole
01:13:44production company out of this so
01:13:46kind of the direction you guys are going
01:13:48your own facility the Smokehouse
01:13:50that's how I like the name so we're actually in LA
01:13:52looking for buildings as we speak so
01:13:54we're trying to get there so it's good to obviously
01:13:56be here but it's also kind of a blueprint
01:13:58to see what you guys have going on
01:14:00do you guys still hoop regularly or no?
01:14:02I box
01:14:04that's a scary proposition
01:14:06box and soft
01:14:08just to stay in shape
01:14:10being an athlete you gotta do something
01:14:12because your body really starts to
01:14:14shut down when you stop
01:14:16being active so I just try to stay active
01:14:18in softball and boxing
01:14:20that would be a good podcast just go like 3 rounds of somebody
01:14:22and do like 5 minutes
01:14:24I have a boxing show called Fight Towns
01:14:26the new episode
01:14:28is actually dropping next week with Ben Avita
01:14:30because he has a fight next week and Roy Jones
01:14:32it's the first time they actually get a chance to meet
01:14:34and Roy Jones actually gets in the ring
01:14:36and teaches and stuff so it's going to be a dope episode
01:14:38I like that yeah just fight your guests
01:14:40we getting in the fight game all the smoke fight
01:14:42coming soon. Can you talk shit while you're boxing?
01:14:44it's kind of hard with the mouthpiece in
01:14:46but I think
01:14:48breathing is way more important than talking shit in boxing
01:14:50you ever want
01:14:52to fight in a rough and rowdy?
01:14:54we have like a boxing
01:14:56league. I would never do that
01:14:58not at 46
01:15:00if I would have started maybe in my 30s
01:15:02I've been punched hard before
01:15:04in real life in real fights with bare knuckles
01:15:06and I know you can't play boxing
01:15:08you have to really be in shape so I would never
01:15:10do it like a charity match or nah I'm not doing it
01:15:12what if I told you that I talked to
01:15:14Tony Parker yesterday and he called you out?
01:15:16I would give Tony Parker a hug
01:15:18and say Tony you don't want these problems
01:15:20I would hurt Tony
01:15:22who's more likely
01:15:24to come on the podcast because I know you said
01:15:26that you would have Derrick Fisher on
01:15:28who's more likely though Tony Parker or Derrick Fisher?
01:15:30well I mean either one of them
01:15:32I'm at the point now where I'm more worried
01:15:34about success than people
01:15:36so I don't have anything personal with any
01:15:38of them I have my opinions of course that I stand
01:15:40strongly on but having them come on the show
01:15:42I don't want to physically hurt anybody
01:15:44I'm cool with disagreeing
01:15:46with people but the respect is going to remain the same
01:15:48have you had a guest on that you didn't like
01:15:50going into it? I haven't
01:15:52that's the next level
01:15:54I don't think we should have a guest that we don't
01:15:56like though why that's the disagreement
01:15:58I don't know well it's got to be somebody
01:16:00that we respect at the same time it can't be somebody
01:16:02that wants to disrespect us
01:16:04we're going to beat the shit out of them
01:16:06we've had a lot of guests that have shown up and we're like
01:16:08we've said a lot of shit about you
01:16:10it gets interesting
01:16:12because we have to cop to all of them
01:16:14you can't have someone on if you've said some
01:16:16shit and then not say it to them
01:16:18I even feel like
01:16:20I don't know how he is with it but he
01:16:22wants to have Derrick on I always feel
01:16:24a certain way but since he feels like he
01:16:26wants Derrick on I'm cool with it now
01:16:28I'm cool with having Kwame on the show
01:16:30he's cool with that I don't mind that
01:16:32a lot of guys that we had words with
01:16:34I don't physically want to hurt
01:16:36or be in contact with anybody
01:16:38you know what I'm saying we're going to disagree as men
01:16:40you should be able to disagree you know what I mean but
01:16:42the respect should remain I just feel like life is
01:16:44too short man to dislike or hate or
01:16:46carry that and I don't play fair so make sure
01:16:48you want to make sure you want to get into that with me that
01:16:50you're willing to be low
01:16:52I'm going low just saying Kwame's name by the way
01:16:54like let's not say
01:16:56anymore because we're going to end up in one of
01:16:58his videos where he's sitting in his truck
01:17:00nah we cool now
01:17:02he loves going live and I love
01:17:04tuning into it just because you never know what the fuck
01:17:06Kwame's going to be talking about but he's going to be saying something
01:17:08with his chest you're going to be like damn
01:17:10I don't want to mess with Kwame but he's definitely built
01:17:12something for himself now a lot of people watching
01:17:14he's got a great audience now so salute to him
01:17:16you know we said his name and made him hot
01:17:18you know what I'm saying so salute to him for taking advantage of it
01:17:20hell yeah when he's like meet me in a mutual combat
01:17:22state if it's a dude
01:17:24that knows which states are mutual
01:17:26combat states that's the guy you do not want to mess with
01:17:28but then again you
01:17:30got to remember Kwame's 6'10
01:17:32280 living the country
01:17:34lifting wood all day so that's a different
01:17:36type of strong yeah I love how
01:17:38you were talking about Derek and Stephen
01:17:40you were like I don't know like you're a good teammate
01:17:42you're like if he's in I guess if you're
01:17:44cool with it that's fine but I'm going to be
01:17:46on high alert when that dude's here
01:17:48that's just how I am
01:17:50you know the funny thing about that shit is you know
01:17:52after the altercation went down that following
01:17:54summer that happened at the beginning of the season
01:17:56that following summer you know my kids were cool
01:17:58and were you know
01:18:00cared about him and that's what kind of just
01:18:02made me cause I was over the situation
01:18:04I could have been cool or I could have been beef for life
01:18:06I wasn't really tripping and my sons
01:18:08are just like you know I'd always ask my sons you know how is it
01:18:10how's it going they're like you know we love this
01:18:12so you know I pulled them to the side and we had a conversation
01:18:14like hey man I'm still in the league you know
01:18:16we had our issues this is why I did what I did
01:18:18he explained his side and then you know we were
01:18:20cool I even told them like you know you're going to see
01:18:22your kids more than me cause I'm still playing you know you gotta
01:18:24teach them how to be men and principles
01:18:26and morals and if that makes sense
01:18:28you know all kinds of
01:18:30so just kind of like you know
01:18:32you do the morals
01:18:34just kind of be that father figure while I'm
01:18:36gone you know I mean so I mean I say all that to say like
01:18:38we ended up squashing it and we've been cool
01:18:40the last however long
01:18:42however long ago like we just were
01:18:44funking for eight months
01:18:46I mean you are a really good friend Stephen
01:18:48I do think
01:18:50that we're so far removed from the malice of the palace
01:18:52and you know obviously it was unfortunate
01:18:54but your take from all of it
01:18:56was like I'm a really good teammate I'm a really
01:18:58good friend do you think people have like
01:19:00come around to that where it's like that's a guy you just want
01:19:02to ride and die with
01:19:04people that actually know me that
01:19:06doesn't have anything personal against me
01:19:08see it that way right that they actually
01:19:10know me people on the outside that just
01:19:12see me run up there and punch in the fan they don't know
01:19:14that I've never been in a fight in an NBA game
01:19:16they don't know that I've never been in trouble in my life
01:19:18before that incident right you just looking
01:19:20like this guy's a troublemaker no I'm just a
01:19:22loyal friend and I would be that to anybody
01:19:24that you know that I rock with so
01:19:26I mean if like I said it depends
01:19:28on how my friend is I'm loyal to a fault
01:19:30sometimes you know I'm saying but I'd rather be loyal
01:19:32to a fault than not loyal at all
01:19:34Are we friends? Yes we're buddies
01:19:36Fuck yeah
01:19:38No one better step to me
01:19:42The Indiana Fever need to sign you as like an assistant
01:19:44coach and have you just
01:19:46looking out for teammates
01:19:48that's what we said like where are teammates at
01:19:50is she not on good terms with her teammates
01:19:52because that was that was the weird part
01:19:54to me was nobody really seemed
01:19:56to have her back in that I remember when
01:19:58Greg Popovich we were playing my
01:20:00second time in San Antonio
01:20:02and he was like we was playing the Clippers
01:20:04and they were just throwing lobs
01:20:06and they just dunked him and he was like I need you to go
01:20:08in the game and give me a little nasty
01:20:10like what you mean Pop as soon as they throw a lob
01:20:12to DeAndre Jordan don't even go
01:20:14for the ball just take him out
01:20:16and I went up and DeAndre Jordan
01:20:18you know he jumps probably like 20 feet higher
01:20:20than me so when I jumped up to stop I didn't
01:20:22go for the ball just hit his arm and stopped
01:20:24the lob and Pop like yeah we need that Tim was all
01:20:26happy and DeAndre came up to me like bro
01:20:28don't do that shit no more
01:20:30Coached up me in the game
01:20:32and he kept tapping me like okay good job
01:20:34yeah Pop used to send
01:20:36people in games just to bring nasty
01:20:38because you got to protect your stars
01:20:40that's what you're there for you don't want Tim
01:20:42goes down our whole season is over
01:20:44Caitlin goes down your season is over you're already
01:20:46struggling you got to be somebody to go
01:20:48in there and be the enforcer
01:20:50they need that in the box
01:20:52Charles Oakley guys like that you need guys like that
01:20:54they need a nasty yeah just like how many nasties did you have
01:20:56Draymond Green you need a guy like that
01:20:58every championship team
01:21:00needs a Draymond game needs to run our test
01:21:02you got to have that one guy
01:21:04and you guys can correct me if I'm wrong but I always
01:21:06think like when I look at a guy like Draymond
01:21:08it's finding a guy who will
01:21:10just live kind of on the edge
01:21:12and you can deal with every now and then him going over
01:21:14the line as long as he can
01:21:16stay on that edge more often than not
01:21:18and it can't be your most talented guy
01:21:20it has to be the guy that you can
01:21:22what's the word I'm looking for
01:21:24that you can
01:21:26I'm trying to find a word
01:21:28it's early yeah we should have said that
01:21:30he's just a guy that
01:21:32you actually don't need
01:21:34him in the four quarter
01:21:36you know what I'm saying because
01:21:38you gotta be a guy that's risky
01:21:40that can take risks
01:21:42because some games Draymond might not be there in the
01:21:44four quarter he might get kicked out in the third
01:21:46but what he did in the third to get kicked out
01:21:48might be important for you to win the game in the fourth quarter
01:21:50I think what made him great is his ability to walk
01:21:52that line and like you said sometimes you step
01:21:54over that line and you'll take it
01:21:56I think he started to realize that as an individual
01:21:58because he's very intelligent like damn I'm
01:22:00stepping over that line a little too much
01:22:02past season
01:22:04his talent was the bullshit besides defense
01:22:06yeah his talent was the nonsense
01:22:08now can you have two of those guys on a team
01:22:10no no have you ever been on a team where
01:22:12there were two of those guys yeah me and Ronald Test
01:22:14yeah you walked in
01:22:16me and Ronald Test
01:22:18that's a good point yeah exactly you see what happens
01:22:20did you walk in in the locker room
01:22:22and you're like wait hold on there's two of us
01:22:24yeah right like what the fuck
01:22:26well I start seeing that as a season I'm like
01:22:28hold up man
01:22:30one wrong situation with this team it's gonna go down
01:22:32yeah one of my favorite quotes is from
01:22:34big John Thompson he said you can win a championship
01:22:36with one of those guys you need one of those guys
01:22:38for a championship if you have two of them they'll get
01:22:40you fired yeah no question
01:22:42might not work with two one yeah you definitely need one
01:22:44yeah when you guys
01:22:46first met what was the
01:22:48tell me if I'm wrong but like a NBA
01:22:50locker room I think when we're watching as fans
01:22:52we're like oh these guys are on the team together
01:22:54they're all best friends that's obviously not the case
01:22:56there's a million different personalities but
01:22:58some guys do become best friends
01:23:00when you guys first walked into the locker room
01:23:02together was there something that connected you
01:23:04where you're like oh yeah we're gonna be friends
01:23:06I saw his lips and I knew he smoked
01:23:08we got them
01:23:10whiskey lips
01:23:12we're weathered in dark cognac lips
01:23:14it was weathered in dark I was like oh he smokes
01:23:16I'm gonna fuck with him
01:23:18weathered
01:23:20hey he got traded to our team
01:23:22at the trade deadline or right before the trade deadline
01:23:24I think the end of January
01:23:26we were struggling at the time and we wanted to shake things
01:23:28up and they brought him Al and I think
01:23:30Sharunis
01:23:32I was scarred up too
01:23:34Jack was just fresh off an
01:23:36NBA strip club shootout
01:23:38so he needed a reload he's in the witness protection
01:23:40program they sent him to
01:23:42Oakland
01:23:44and as soon as he walked in I'm just like oh
01:23:46we played together for years but never real
01:23:48interaction but as soon as he walked in I looked at his lips
01:23:50like oh he smokes and from that day
01:23:52I looked at him like oh yeah that's the one
01:23:54that's my friend right there
01:23:56that can't be that uncommon though I feel like in professional sports
01:23:58in general especially now things have changed a little bit
01:24:00like back when you guys were playing
01:24:02it was you know a very
01:24:04common thing but it wasn't as socially
01:24:06acceptable to be like outwardly
01:24:08yeah I smoke weed but nowadays
01:24:10it's like yeah in the NFL they kind of
01:24:12pulled back the drug testing
01:24:14something wrong with you if you don't
01:24:16during our career and even though we were risking
01:24:18over half the league was smoking I would say probably
01:24:20even more towards 60 or 70 percent
01:24:22but you know they kind of changed
01:24:24and you know when I retired and one of our
01:24:26brothers Al Harrington retired
01:24:28we were flying to New York to talk to the NBA
01:24:30and the MPPA and tell them they needed to do
01:24:32more in depth studying because there was no study
01:24:34on the positive benefits at the time
01:24:36it was just the gateway and all the old
01:24:38shit from the 80s that everyone was sticking by so
01:24:40you know the NBA started looking into it
01:24:42the MBPA started looking into it
01:24:44and the doctors still butted heads
01:24:46they finally came to a conclusion and understood
01:24:48you know the benefits of the plan and I think
01:24:50starting in the bubble
01:24:52during COVID is when they stopped testing
01:24:54and then after that the shit was gone
01:24:56so although we missed out on it
01:24:58we kind of take pride in the fact
01:25:00that we were someone to help push the lines
01:25:02and luckily this next generation
01:25:04doesn't have to
01:25:06at the end of the day we were risking our career
01:25:08risking a lot of money to do that
01:25:10but there was no alternative for us
01:25:12we have a lot of friends
01:25:14who are NFL players
01:25:16or ex-NFL players
01:25:18they got to a point in their career like I don't want to take these pills
01:25:20that they keep prescribing us
01:25:22let me just smoke
01:25:24and that will deal with the pain a lot better
01:25:26even with Jake Plummer now
01:25:28with his company I'm going with the mushrooms
01:25:30we went out there
01:25:32we got an episode coming with him
01:25:34very educational
01:25:36to the point where I'm taking the drops and stuff
01:25:38everyday even the stuff to sleep
01:25:40but I didn't know anything about it until we went down
01:25:42and talked to Jake
01:25:44before he was just throwing them in his mouth
01:25:46and chewing them
01:25:48this wasn't a healthy one
01:25:50did you guys go to his farm?
01:25:52yeah we did too
01:25:54you're like are we in the right place?
01:25:56did you have some space cheetos?
01:25:58no I think it was all
01:26:00lion mane tacos
01:26:02I'm trying to remember
01:26:04the reishi
01:26:06that's his favorite mushroom
01:26:08he talked about how it talks in the earth to the other mushrooms
01:26:10it's trippy stuff
01:26:12what was the place we went to called?
01:26:14Humbo
01:26:16did you go to the URK?
01:26:18we went to my buddy's house
01:26:20that has the TP
01:26:22we went to the URK
01:26:24they thought we were cops
01:26:26they saw big cats mustache
01:26:28and they were like this guy might be the police
01:26:30that just ruined my day
01:26:32he definitely gave us the narc tour
01:26:34we're going back
01:26:36kept it very surface
01:26:38we're going back
01:26:40I'm going back to see what it's really like
01:26:42he's doing very cool stuff
01:26:44he's just a cool guy
01:26:46I think our episode with him drops soon
01:26:48got some Coors Lattes over here
01:26:52we got an octopus and formaldehyde over there
01:26:54if you want to take a look
01:26:56everywhere
01:26:58really cool 13 year olds bedroom
01:27:00I take that as a compliment
01:27:02I think
01:27:04you were talking about the bubble
01:27:06and how they changed the rules
01:27:08they didn't really have a choice
01:27:10we've got these guys pretty much trapped in here
01:27:12we have to let them at least smoke weed
01:27:14I don't know how long the break was
01:27:16but I think it was like 4-6 weeks off
01:27:18I was already out
01:27:20but guys didn't know what was going on
01:27:22a lot of them partook
01:27:24if you start testing guys when you come back in the bubble
01:27:26and you got some star players not able to play
01:27:28while you're in the bubble because of this bullshit rule
01:27:30it's going to look really bad
01:27:32so I think they looked big picture
01:27:34and like you said they were locked in there
01:27:36so they had to give them something to do
01:27:38and that was one of them
01:27:40what helped J.R.R. Smith
01:27:42the whole time he was in the bubble
01:27:44I got a call from him probably 7-8 every morning
01:27:46him by his bathroom window
01:27:48venting to me
01:27:50about how much he hate the bubble
01:27:52and we smoking together every morning
01:27:54that's the way he survived doing the bubble
01:27:56waking up and smoking and calling me on FaceTime
01:27:58bro I can't wait to get out of here like he was in jail
01:28:00yeah and it's interesting
01:28:02because when you guys play in the league
01:28:04I feel like the transition between
01:28:06or maybe it's not a transition but the realization
01:28:08that the players have had in the last 20 years
01:28:10they realize that they have the power
01:28:12in this league. In the NFL it's different
01:28:14you've got 53 man rosters
01:28:16you've got guys that are interchangeable
01:28:18but in the NBA the players
01:28:20especially the star players but really it's everyone
01:28:22the players have all the power in this dynamic
01:28:24and I don't know if there was
01:28:26a moment that kind of woke people up
01:28:28to that if you're in the league or if it was just
01:28:30a gradual realization. I think that was David Stern's
01:28:32goal to create individual
01:28:34stars within a team game
01:28:36he always wanted to promote stars because
01:28:38he knew that's what would grow the league but it was also
01:28:40we kept the team mentality
01:28:42around it so they would promote the individual
01:28:44guys but it was still the team
01:28:46obviously with 12-13
01:28:48guys and no helmets on you're still
01:28:50in the mix even if you don't play
01:28:52so there's still opportunities but now more than ever
01:28:54these kids are
01:28:56businesses before they even step into the NBA
01:28:58now so it promotes a lot of
01:29:00which is weird it's a fine line to be able
01:29:02to promote individuality and individuals within
01:29:04a team space and I don't think
01:29:06football's getting better at that because there's social media
01:29:08now but it's still more of a us
01:29:10and we can actually be
01:29:12us as a team we can actually be individuals
01:29:14but still be with the team concept
01:29:16yeah do you think
01:29:18super teams are gonna
01:29:20kind of dying because it does feel
01:29:22like this especially these playoffs
01:29:24with the Suns going out the Clippers
01:29:26going out and you see a lot of teams
01:29:28like the success of the
01:29:30Wolves
01:29:32the Mavs and I know Kyrie got
01:29:34that was an addition but like
01:29:36the Mavs and the Celtics
01:29:38both have been maneuvering
01:29:40never doing the like alright we got one big star
01:29:42let's bring two other big stars
01:29:44do you think it's kind of dwindling down?
01:29:46I think so yeah with players
01:29:48like Anthony Edwards coming in the league
01:29:50being one of those guys that
01:29:52approaching the game with that attitude that old school
01:29:54attitude and not really want to team up
01:29:56with guys want to build their own
01:29:58I think the super team is definitely dying
01:30:00and I think the big man is coming back
01:30:02having two big men
01:30:04versatile big men
01:30:06I definitely think it's more
01:30:08back on strategy and management
01:30:10and drafting right and trading right
01:30:12and this next generation
01:30:14that super team was something that our generation
01:30:16wanted to do you know what I mean and I really credit
01:30:18LeBron for kind of being the first guy
01:30:20to make the superstar to kind of make that jump
01:30:22like I don't have to stay in this organization
01:30:24my entire life if I don't want to so he kind of I think
01:30:26opened up the floodgates for
01:30:28stars to start moving but I think that was more kind of
01:30:30what our guy are you know as you just
01:30:32mentioned all those guys like none of them made the playoffs
01:30:34they made the playoffs it was in and out you know those kind
01:30:36of teams those really I look at those as kind of
01:30:38like those weight builders that only lift their upper body
01:30:40and their legs are like this yeah like you
01:30:42got a really heavy top three
01:30:44really heavy top three and you
01:30:46don't have any depth so now it's more important about
01:30:48depth and drafting and trading right
01:30:50and I kind of see going somewhat back to
01:30:52the old NBA style as far as you have to
01:30:54build your team through the draft and trades
01:30:56I think it's going to be like that initially
01:30:58but I get the feeling that
01:31:00the super teams that we see right now
01:31:02that have been constructed in the last five years
01:31:04they're all from like a certain
01:31:06generation it's kind of older guys
01:31:08guys that are maybe at the second half of their
01:31:10career right now we've got so many young
01:31:12stars in the league if we wait
01:31:14five ten years they might start
01:31:16to do that too without a ring
01:31:18then you start thinking about it but right now I think
01:31:20as we're looking at the NBA
01:31:22the talent is concentrated in like the mid to
01:31:24late 20s for the younger
01:31:26guys. I would say even earlier
01:31:28I would say early 20s
01:31:30to mid 20s is like
01:31:32the 26 and under like that's
01:31:34Tatum, Anthony Edwards,
01:31:36Luka, you know all these
01:31:38Luka even called Kyrie old the other day I think Kyrie
01:31:40is what 32-ish you know what I mean
01:31:42so I think that young wave is middle 20s
01:31:44and they're strong so I really feel like
01:31:46we've seen this year
01:31:48kind of the passing of the torch
01:31:50all the great players you name
01:31:52Steph, LeBron, KD none of these guys
01:31:54have made waves in the playoffs this year it was all
01:31:56younger lead teams
01:31:58still entertaining
01:32:00very entertaining
01:32:02you guys think there's a problem in the NBA with
01:32:04coaches like speaking of the super
01:32:06teams like the Lakers obviously fire their coach
01:32:08the Suns fire their coach where
01:32:10these sometimes it feels
01:32:12like the players basically if there's
01:32:14if it's a disappointing season
01:32:16there's just no blame on themselves
01:32:18and it's just the coaches
01:32:20the one like hey you're out
01:32:22our coaches used to have really when we came
01:32:24coach had the authority it was they were the
01:32:26highway and now players make so much money
01:32:28organizations can't expend
01:32:30players like that it has to be the coach
01:32:32even though coaches are getting way better money
01:32:34than they used to it's always going to be
01:32:36the coaches fault there's not very much
01:32:38what acceptance or
01:32:40responsibility when it comes to
01:32:42if you're a big player and big team and your team
01:32:44fucks up it's going to be on the coach
01:32:46half out of ten times now I hate it
01:32:48I think there should be way more blame on the
01:32:50coaches for the perfect example on the coaches
01:32:52or on the players excuse me on the players
01:32:54because perfect example you can't just
01:32:56blame Darvin Ham
01:32:58for that situation and fire him
01:33:00and just bring another coach in with no experience
01:33:02just because Braun
01:33:04didn't win a championship nah
01:33:06it's the players fault any other time
01:33:08any other time when Jokic lose
01:33:10when any other team loses it's the stars
01:33:12fault the stars they didn't play well they didn't do
01:33:14this they talk about Anthony Edwards why the Minnesota
01:33:16lost because he didn't play like he was playing against
01:33:18as soon as the Lakers lose they blame
01:33:20it on the coach I hate it the stars
01:33:22you have to be responsible because
01:33:24just when you win the stars get all the
01:33:26credit they don't give the coaches the credit they give it all
01:33:28to the stars he played well he carried the
01:33:30team when the team lose you got to take the same
01:33:32responsibility and I don't think the players do that
01:33:34no more it might be a lot about you know the
01:33:36star players just not liking the coach
01:33:38and you don't want a superstar athlete that's
01:33:40not in a good position
01:33:42mentally that hates going to work every day
01:33:44I don't think you're going to get the most production out of them
01:33:46but that's kind of that's where we're at right now
01:33:48you saw one when Anthony Davis said I think
01:33:50during was it during the playoffs or was
01:33:52it playing or wherever they are trying to end the season
01:33:54like there was times out there we didn't even know we were doing
01:33:56it when we didn't know we were running I was like oh Darvin had
01:33:58it's done yeah you know what I mean like when
01:34:00your players start your star start speaking up like
01:34:02that and I feel like it happens so much faster
01:34:04though now like I even saw it with the Bucks
01:34:06this year they fired their coach what three months into
01:34:08it and he was what 33 and 13 or something
01:34:10yeah insane it's like oh is it because
01:34:12I'm not saying it's because Giannis didn't like him but it
01:34:14does feel like the threshold for firing a coach
01:34:16is if your star players like I don't
01:34:18really like him it's like all right well this time is different
01:34:20you know perfect example you get Kobe getting coming
01:34:22to the press conference after they lose it's going to be
01:34:24a great something we got to work right now you know
01:34:26what I'm saying work starts right now for next year
01:34:28instead of guys coming to the press conference well
01:34:30you know we had guys heard
01:34:32this you know my team it wasn't there I only
01:34:34can do so much like that's not the way
01:34:36that's the that's the approach now instead of having an approach
01:34:38like Kobe we just got to get back to work we'll be back
01:34:40next year yeah you know what I mean and this is
01:34:42a different approach to the game my favorite is when they say
01:34:44I don't want to make excuses and then they make
01:34:46like a lot yeah yeah
01:34:48my wrist part of the game yeah
01:34:50it is part of the game yeah so have you guys ever been
01:34:52on a team where you don't like the coach where
01:34:54where most of the players on the team don't like coach but
01:34:56the team is still successful
01:34:58no no
01:35:00I've been on a team where I don't like the coach but
01:35:02the team wasn't good either you know I think kind
01:35:04of think it starts at the top yes and all
01:35:06the players are more powerful called buying in
01:35:08yeah you know I think the hardest thing now
01:35:10as a coach is coming into a locker room with guys
01:35:12that are making millions and millions of dollars and gaining
01:35:14that respect you know you have to have the
01:35:16respect of the locker room no matter what your past is
01:35:18what you're you know what you've done what you've accomplished
01:35:20like being able to go into the locker room and get everyone's respect
01:35:22is the key and
01:35:24communicating I just feel like there's
01:35:26we have a shift in coaches right now you too you're seeing a lot
01:35:28more former players coming in the NFL I like
01:35:30that NBA because
01:35:32to me it's I mean although X and O's are always
01:35:34gonna be important now it's being able to communicate
01:35:36because this next generation that's coming
01:35:38came up different than we did a lot more
01:35:40coddled and given a lot of things
01:35:42so if you ruffle their feathers you
01:35:44know you're out of here so it's not so much like kiss
01:35:46an ass but it's just being able to have someone that can
01:35:48still communicate with that younger generation
01:35:50but still get the job done. Talk your language.
01:35:52Jason Kidd and Kyrie.
01:35:54Kyrie seems to be a different dude
01:35:56this year. At peace. I
01:35:58think he's very much at peace and I
01:36:00heard him talk about obviously this is gonna air during
01:36:02the finals so we don't know what's happened so far
01:36:04but I heard him talk about
01:36:06just how he's approaching the series against Boston
01:36:08and how mature he sounded when he said it
01:36:10I was like is this the same Kyrie from
01:36:12the Nets? He seems to have made
01:36:14a complete change and I think a lot of
01:36:16people are giving credit to Jason Kidd obviously Kyrie's
01:36:18matured on his own a little bit it seems like but yeah
01:36:20having a guy that has been there done
01:36:22that that can speak your language I feel like
01:36:24just having that connection goes a long way so
01:36:26there's a lot of stuff that goes into
01:36:28a successful franchise a good
01:36:30team. What are the differences that
01:36:32you guys have seen between a
01:36:34functional NBA organization
01:36:36like from the top down and a dysfunctional
01:36:38one?
01:36:40Well for me as soon as you
01:36:42walk in you can tell what organization is used to
01:36:44winning and what organization doesn't know how to
01:36:46win. That's easy to tell
01:36:48you know going into when I went to Charlotte
01:36:50I can tell that they were still trying to figure out how to win
01:36:52when I signed to San Antonio it was a
01:36:54structure everybody's professional everything's on time
01:36:56they're used to winning they
01:36:58have the motto to win you know they understand
01:37:00about winning and it's just
01:37:02easy to see when you walk in the organization you
01:37:04can tell a team that's been winning that's won championships
01:37:06by the coach how the coach
01:37:08is and how they run everything from the top to bottom
01:37:10and you can go into a place like Charlotte
01:37:12you can tell like they're looking for somebody to come in
01:37:14and bring this winning feel back you know what I'm saying
01:37:16so it's easy to see when you walk in the organization
01:37:18Yeah I think too I think it starts at the top
01:37:20absolutely with ownership and it trickles down
01:37:22to management to coaches
01:37:24Some teams, I don't mean to cut you off, but some teams
01:37:26you don't even know who the owner is
01:37:28so you think the coach is basically running the
01:37:30team you know what I'm saying
01:37:32I've been in several teams where I don't
01:37:34even know who the owner is. Yeah we went you know we
01:37:36played on that Warrior team that we believe team
01:37:38in you know 06, 07 and we
01:37:40played with the Warriors then and that was an organization
01:37:42that was still trying to figure it out owners didn't really
01:37:44know what they're doing fast forward I went back
01:37:4610 years later with the 17 team
01:37:48that already won a championship and you just see
01:37:50when I tell you we walked in you felt the energy
01:37:52on the days off guys wanted to be in there when we
01:37:54traveled for the playoffs they got private
01:37:56jets for our whole family they take care of
01:37:58hotels for like you don't have to worry about tickets
01:38:00food travel for your family like
01:38:02all they want you to do is focus on basketball
01:38:04and you know I was blessed to play for the Lakers
01:38:06and the Clippers I played for the Clippers
01:38:08two times the first time we were practicing at a fucking
01:38:10junior college where you had to leave the back doors open so they
01:38:12didn't break into your car next time around
01:38:14we have our own practice facility and the plane
01:38:16and everything is set up so I mean it really starts
01:38:18I feel like it starts at the top with ownership
01:38:20and how much they really want to pour into this team
01:38:22Yeah I always am shocked when an owner
01:38:24like when a rich guy buys a team
01:38:26and then just starts cheaping out on it
01:38:28you have billions you bought
01:38:30the team why wouldn't you want the team to be
01:38:32good it's not just owning I would be so
01:38:34mad if I owned a team and they just sucked all the money
01:38:40We're gonna get back to Matt and Stephen before

01:41:06I feel like the purpose
01:41:08speaking of that Clipped
01:41:10is on FM right now
01:41:12in Hulu I was a consultant on that
01:41:14that was our 2015
01:41:16team with Donald Sterling
01:41:18when his mistress recorded him and leaked the tapes
01:41:20y'all don't know I was on that team at the beginning of that year
01:41:22oh really?
01:41:24what happened?
01:41:26Chris Paul broke his hand
01:41:28he broke his hand and had to get rid of
01:41:30somebody to bring another point guard in
01:41:32and I was on the 10 day
01:41:34how fucked up was that situation?
01:41:36you probably hated going to work
01:41:38for that guy right?
01:41:40you know what's funny about that situation when people ask
01:41:42he came to games
01:41:44but we never thought we were playing for Donald Sterling
01:41:46it was more like we had a good group of guys
01:41:48and we were playing for each other
01:41:50he never really came into the picture until the bullshit was leaked
01:41:52he was always there
01:41:54for me out of respect I never had no awkward
01:41:56encounters he never said nothing crazy to me
01:41:58because there ain't no telling what would have happened
01:42:00I was just always high and by his wife was very
01:42:02respectful obviously we saw the mistress
01:42:04there and she thought she ran the stable center
01:42:06which was crazy and my ex-wife always had to put hands
01:42:08on her
01:42:10it was a circus but we didn't allow his circus
01:42:12to trickle down into our locker room
01:42:14so it was really never about him
01:42:16did you text Blake when he retired?
01:42:18I did, that's big cat
01:42:20my big cat
01:42:22Blake great dude
01:42:24definitely a hall of fame career
01:42:26really happy for him
01:42:28that he was able to play as long as he wanted
01:42:30wish he would have won a championship but it's crazy
01:42:32because they're hanging on
01:42:34Jamal Crawford's gone, JJ's gone
01:42:36about to get the Laker job, Blake just retired
01:42:38who knows with CP it might be time
01:42:40for CP to retire so kind of the last
01:42:42DeAndre's over in Denver
01:42:44I'm going to look at a bench in the playoffs
01:42:46and just be like wait is that DeAndre Jordan?
01:42:48that's what he did this year
01:42:50he's such a great vet, such a good guy
01:42:52great energy, team guy
01:42:54and he found a good spot that still
01:42:56credits that, we've always spoke that we feel
01:42:58like the NBA definitely still needs
01:43:00veterans, teams are so young
01:43:02now with no it's the blind leading the blind
01:43:04but when you're able to find a good veteran
01:43:06I talk to any guys that are done or guys on their way out
01:43:08like man the game has changed, we came in the game
01:43:10there was guys that were 38, 39, 40
01:43:12some contributed on the court
01:43:14but they all contributed off the court in a certain way
01:43:16to help you guide and dodge the potholes
01:43:18get your suits together, all this kind of shit
01:43:20now it's, I remember at one point
01:43:22Steph was the oldest player on the Warriors and he was 32
01:43:24although they were a great organization
01:43:26this is just really young, it's a young game now
01:43:28Who were those guys for you
01:43:30when you guys first came in the league?
01:43:32For me, my first year
01:43:34I got lucky with being with
01:43:36Stephon Marbury, he embraced me
01:43:38and then I went to the Spurs
01:43:40and got Steve Smith, so those two
01:43:42guys mentored me, showed me how to be a
01:43:44professional, showed me what the league was going to be
01:43:46like and I think that was the best thing for me
01:43:48cause I was like a chicken with his
01:43:50head cut off just trying to figure it out
01:43:52I would say my guy was Chris Weber
01:43:54he was someone that, I'm from Sacramento
01:43:56and he was with the Kings at the time when they were the
01:43:58big Laker Kings rivalry, I was going to school at UCLA
01:44:00but every summer I would work out with him
01:44:02he'd put his arm around me and I'd end up going to the
01:44:04Kings and he and I get traded to Philly together
01:44:06and my first time with Allen
01:44:08Iverson and you know obviously super dope
01:44:10and just kind of being able to see what that
01:44:12lifestyle is like and be like but I really say
01:44:14Chris Weber on and off the court as far as business
01:44:16and basketball
01:44:18I want to say Steve Curtis, he spoke
01:44:20life into me in San Antonio
01:44:22confidence wise
01:44:24I was young and Pop used to take me out
01:44:26to games earlier, like whenever I
01:44:28make a mistake he'd take me out real early and I'm trying to figure
01:44:30out why, you know what I'm saying, when everybody else
01:44:32is making mistakes and I used to come out of the game cursing everybody
01:44:34out, just frustrated
01:44:36trying to figure out why and he used to always come
01:44:38down like you're going to get back in the game, stay focused
01:44:40you're going to make big shots, nobody else is making big
01:44:42shots and he kept telling it to me all
01:44:44year to the playoffs and the Western Conference Finals
01:44:46I hit all the big shots, you know I kept hitting
01:44:48those big shots but he was somebody that kept speaking
01:44:50life into me, you know when Pop was taking
01:44:52my confidence. That's awesome
01:44:54speaking about San Antonio
01:44:56I don't know what, maybe it's because of the guy
01:44:58he is and he's not the flashiest but it does
01:45:00feel like as we go farther away
01:45:02from Tim Duncan retiring, people just forget
01:45:04how awesome he was. I
01:45:06argue people down with it all the time. It's crazy
01:45:08he was so good
01:45:10and he was like, he just doesn't get the respect
01:45:12because he wasn't flashy, he didn't talk
01:45:14his game, he just showed up and when you look at the
01:45:16stats when you talk about greats
01:45:18if he's not in the conversation then you don't know
01:45:20basketball. Yeah, he really
01:45:22was like, he did everything well
01:45:24and it was, also he doesn't get
01:45:26credit for being one of the most
01:45:28ready to go
01:45:30pieces that's ever been put on a team. Exactly
01:45:32They won a championship his second year. All around
01:45:34Yeah, it was just like, oh he's
01:45:36second year, oh he's just, he's this guy
01:45:38already. It just seemed like he was winning the championship, what, every
01:45:40two years? Yeah. What's
01:45:42his record in the finals, like five out of
01:45:44seven? Yes. Five out of six, something like that?
01:45:46They lost to the Heat, obviously
01:45:48and then what was the other one they lost?
01:45:50It might be five
01:45:52it might be five and one. Five and one
01:45:54I think so, they won five out of six, I think
01:45:56I think so. Yeah, I think they won five out of six
01:45:58Yeah. That's crazy.
01:46:00And he just doesn't, it is
01:46:02because of like his flashiness and his
01:46:04game, like he didn't, you know, he wasn't hitting big
01:46:06threes or big dunks
01:46:08Look at the stat sheet? Yeah.
01:46:10Every single night. 20, 29, 8
01:46:12All around. Yeah.
01:46:14Hank just sent over some pictures of
01:46:16the cast of Clipped.
01:46:18How do you think they did with you, Matt?
01:46:20I mean, they did a great job. It's my homeboy
01:46:22Chris. Yeah. So he's kind of similar to me
01:46:24everyone's always kind of said we look alike
01:46:26so they casted really well with that.
01:46:28What did he say?
01:46:30He's doing me a favor. Yeah, he's doing you a favor by
01:46:32playing you.
01:46:34Now they casted well, I mean they got Ed O'Neil
01:46:36Al Bundy for Donald Sterling. Yeah. They got
01:46:38Lawrence Fishburne to play Doc
01:46:40the lady that plays
01:46:42V, his mistress is really dope
01:46:44looks just like her and then the lady that played
01:46:46Shirley, or
01:46:48that's her name? Sterling?
01:46:50Looks just like her, talks just like her
01:46:52so I thought they casted. Some of the players
01:46:54casting, like Blake's casting was kind of funny
01:46:56to me and C.P.'s casting
01:46:58because it's the dude from
01:47:00what show was he on?
01:47:02The racy show on
01:47:04Stars. The strip club show.
01:47:06You should have just gotten Cliff Paul.
01:47:08Strip club show on Stars. Yeah.
01:47:10Did you sit down with the dude that was playing you?
01:47:12Yeah, I already know. I consulted
01:47:14on the project so the project came
01:47:16about from Ramona Shelburne. Shout out Ramona
01:47:18at ESPN. She did a 30 for 30
01:47:20for ESPN on Sterling
01:47:22Affairs and the growth of the Clippers and everything
01:47:24and it won some awards and
01:47:26it got so popular that FX
01:47:28took her podcast and turned it into
01:47:30an actual script. When you guys saw the
01:47:32transcript from his court filings
01:47:34did you all do a reading?
01:47:36I didn't do a deep dive into
01:47:38it. Like I said, I just kind of knew
01:47:40and heard and I've had
01:47:42a lot, I almost had my high school burned
01:47:44down by the KKK so this old rich white
01:47:46man talking about black people the way
01:47:48he did. I was just like, this is probably the norm.
01:47:50He's just the only one dumb enough to get caught.
01:47:52I'm sure it goes on more.
01:47:54So to me it wasn't a huge deal but for some guys
01:47:56on my team it was a big deal. Some guys really
01:47:58hurt. Some guys cried. Some guys didn't want to play.
01:48:00Some guys were really fucked up by it.
01:48:02To me it was, okay, it's
01:48:04unfortunate but what's next?
01:48:06Did you ever read the part where he was
01:48:08talking about the woman in the backseat of the car?
01:48:10Uh-uh. Oh, you haven't seen that one?
01:48:12What happened? Okay, I'm going to pull it up right now.
01:48:14The worst transcript from a court filing ever.
01:48:16I'm going to have to read this for you out loud here.
01:48:18Okay.
01:48:20So this is Donald Sterling.
01:48:22Well, I fool around sometimes.
01:48:24I do. When a girl seduces me and tells me
01:48:26all these hot stories and dirty things
01:48:28and tells me how much she wants to suck on me
01:48:30and take my shoes off and licks my feet
01:48:32and touches me. When I'm in a limousine
01:48:34she takes all of her clothes.
01:48:36The limo driver said, what's going on? And she
01:48:38started sucking me on the way
01:48:40to Mr. Kuhn's house. And I thank her.
01:48:42I thank her for making me feel good.
01:48:44Then the lawyer. Sir, the question was
01:48:46is this your handwriting?
01:48:50He kind of talks like a Neanderthal.
01:48:52Thank you for making me feel...
01:48:54You suck me. Thank you. Good feel.
01:48:56He was special, man.
01:48:58Oh my God.
01:49:00So you mentioned J.J. getting
01:49:02the Lakers job, which isn't official,
01:49:04but it feels like it's moving that way. Do you think he's going to...
01:49:06I'm okay with it.
01:49:08I think J.J.'s a great basketball mind.
01:49:10I think he's very creative, but again, I think
01:49:12he can bridge that gap of communication with younger
01:49:14and older players. And J.J. can be an asshole
01:49:16when he needs to be, so I don't think...
01:49:18I mean, he's a douchebag.
01:49:20He's from Duke. You know what's funny?
01:49:22I used to think J.J. would be a cocksucker
01:49:24and I wouldn't fuck with J.J. He's one of my closest
01:49:26friends post-career. We played together
01:49:28twice. I was just like, this guy's the old
01:49:30Duke stigma. I wouldn't fuck with J.J.
01:49:32J.J. was so cool.
01:49:34J.J. is really cool, and like I said, I think
01:49:36he's someone that's not going to be afraid to stand up
01:49:38and bark at LeBron if needed, because
01:49:40like I said, the most important thing is going in there and gaining
01:49:42that respect. Now whether people think
01:49:44LeBron ushered a man or whatever,
01:49:46I'm okay from a standpoint of a beatboxer
01:49:48over here. I just feel like the NBA always
01:49:50recycles the same coaches that ain't winning shit anyway.
01:49:52So I like new, fresh blood.
01:49:54I mean, should your first job be with the Lakers?
01:49:56Who knows? That's not up to me, but I think
01:49:58J.J., if he is able to get
01:50:00that opportunity, I'm definitely looking forward to see what he can do.
01:50:02Wait, so do you disagree?
01:50:04I love J.J. Solid dude.
01:50:06He's one of the coolest I ever met, but it's a lot of
01:50:08privilege going on.
01:50:10What kind of privilege? A lot of privilege. White or LeBron
01:50:12privilege? Yeah, it's definitely white and LeBron privilege.
01:50:14You don't get no better than that.
01:50:16Those are two privileges you have.
01:50:18The strongest privileges you can't lose, bro.
01:50:20Only privileges above those are
01:50:22like the police union and teachers union.
01:50:24There's not much privilege.
01:50:26CIA?
01:50:28You're good. That's the only thing higher than that.
01:50:30I mean, that's a lot of privilege going on there.
01:50:32You got a lot of guys
01:50:34that's been going through these
01:50:36NBA teams, doing these
01:50:38little coaching programs for the last
01:50:40five, six years, sitting behind the bench, doing
01:50:42coaching, doing everything they're supposed to do to get an opportunity.
01:50:44And they're not getting these opportunities.
01:50:46They don't have a podcast with LeBron.
01:50:48That happened first, so you knew it was coming.
01:50:50You knew it was coming.
01:50:52It was the setup? How are they cool?
01:50:54When have you ever seen
01:50:56them cool? This was all
01:50:58a play. We're not dumb.
01:51:00I'm first team all common sense.
01:51:02It's a lot
01:51:04of privilege in that because I know a lot of players
01:51:06that's been coaching in the NBA
01:51:08that had an opportunity. It didn't go
01:51:10good because their first
01:51:12opportunity was a trash team, and
01:51:14it looked like they couldn't coach. Now they're just assistant coaches
01:51:16for the rest of their career. They don't get this opportunity
01:51:18the first place they go where they're coaching LeBron
01:51:20James and Anthony Davis. So it's a lot of
01:51:22privilege there, but it's nothing against
01:51:24JJ. I love JJ. He was one of my
01:51:26favorite teammates when I was with the Clippers. I spent
01:51:28some good times with him, but it's a lot of
01:51:30privilege there. Yeah, JJ's a great dude. He's been on the show
01:51:32a bunch. He actually used to be my neighbor,
01:51:34and we
01:51:36like to just call him a douchebag
01:51:38to his face. I feel like he's
01:51:40almost like the mafia going
01:51:42real. Oh, they
01:51:44have a real business now? People forget
01:51:46he went to Duke, and he was a dickhead.
01:51:48He does it on purpose, though.
01:51:50Everything is calculated with
01:51:52JJ. On first take, I actually
01:51:54think he's playing a wrestling character. I gave
01:51:56him credit for it. I was like, I think you're
01:51:58genius how you're doing this, because people get so
01:52:00angry. He's speaking for the players, too. That's why I love
01:52:02it. I think he'll do well,
01:52:04but the one thing I'm worried about for JJ
01:52:06is like, LeBron's
01:52:08not young, so what's the plan when LeBron
01:52:10is done? Or when
01:52:12he wants to finish somewhere else?
01:52:14I don't know. You're signing up
01:52:16for something that, are you going to be there when
01:52:18he's gone? I guess LA always, the Lakers
01:52:20always get a score. That's always a hot seat, but
01:52:22to me, it's hard. How do you pass up, because
01:52:24again, I'm cool with him. He
01:52:26told me he had opportunities last season
01:52:28to coach, and I'm fresh out.
01:52:30I kind of want to figure it out, spend time with my family,
01:52:32my kids. You tried to bring him as an assistant
01:52:34in Boston. No,
01:52:36he told me he had some head opportunities.
01:52:38Okay.
01:52:40How do you turn down, if that is the job?
01:52:42You can't turn down the Laker job.
01:52:44I feel like there's a lot of stuff that goes into coaching
01:52:46that's not just the X's
01:52:48and O's, basketball IQ stuff.
01:52:50Behind the scenes stuff. You were talking about
01:52:52a functional organization, everything
01:52:54running on time, the schedules and all that
01:52:56stuff. That's going to be a big blind spot.
01:52:58He's a smart guy, so I'm sure he's going to talk
01:53:00to people and try to figure it out. But to me,
01:53:02it seems like there's a lot that goes into coaching
01:53:04that's not just what you see on the court. No free time.
01:53:06Yeah.
01:53:08Also, I think it's important for him, if he does get the job,
01:53:10which I hope he does, to hire a good staff
01:53:12around him. Mix in
01:53:14maybe a couple old G's and vets,
01:53:16but then also guys fresh out.
01:53:18Because guys fresh out still understand
01:53:20what this next wave of kids are about.
01:53:22From your
01:53:24guys' perspective, what's the one thing that
01:53:26NBA fans get wrong about how
01:53:28the league works or how the game works?
01:53:30The thing that you just
01:53:32see all the time, and you're like, that's just not
01:53:34how it works. I just think how hard it is.
01:53:36If you think about it, there's been less than
01:53:385,000 guys to ever play in this league.
01:53:40The last guy on the bench is
01:53:42amazing anywhere else, but
01:53:44maybe just that situation.
01:53:46Maybe it's the right time, right situation,
01:53:48but I just think the talent level, and I don't think
01:53:50fans appreciate and respect the grind
01:53:52and the hard work. Not just basketball, but professional
01:53:54sports in general. Now that we have a
01:53:5624-7, 365 news cycle
01:53:58where there's no
01:54:00everything is front street, I just don't
01:54:02think fans appreciate the grind.
01:54:04You've got a better chance of being struck by lightning
01:54:06than being in the NBA. You know what I mean?
01:54:08I just think how hard it is to make it, and how
01:54:10good every player in that league,
01:54:12no matter if he has a bad season or is on a bad
01:54:14team or doesn't play, how good every player
01:54:16in that league is. What's harder, playing
01:54:18NBA or podcasting?
01:54:20NBA.
01:54:22Are you sure?
01:54:24I don't know.
01:54:26You guys can't bank
01:54:28NBA games. You guys bank
01:54:30podcasts. You can be high in NBA games,
01:54:32just like you can be high up in podcasts.
01:54:34The thing about the
01:54:36NBA is someone's always coming to take your spot.
01:54:38Podcasting space is growing, but we don't
01:54:40really look at anybody in our basketball
01:54:42space as competition. I think we all have our
01:54:44own unique journeys and stories, and we bring something
01:54:46different to the game, and I feel as a whole
01:54:48we're changing sports media. You guys are
01:54:50changing sports media because now it's
01:54:52guys that people really want to talk to.
01:54:54As players, we kind of used to look at
01:54:56some reporters as like cops.
01:54:58It's like criminals talking to cops. Not that we're criminals,
01:55:00but there's just that weird line of
01:55:02because they used to be dirty and twist shit
01:55:04and there was no other way for us to get our story
01:55:06out but through them, so you kind of got the bare
01:55:08minimum with a lot of people, but now there's so many
01:55:10athletes and people that people like to talk to.
01:55:12You're getting different stories and point of
01:55:14views that a typical ESPN
01:55:16or Fox wouldn't get.
01:55:18For a while, there was a big disconnect
01:55:20between how sports was presented on TV
01:55:22and how they talked about it on TV and how
01:55:24regular people talked about sports.
01:55:26When we're talking about the NBA or the
01:55:28NFL, me and Big Cat don't put on suits
01:55:30and sit down and start yelling
01:55:32at each other and gesturing at each other with a pen.
01:55:34Nobody wants to see that anyway.
01:55:36You want to see people having real honest conversations.
01:55:38Have you guys ever gotten in trouble or had
01:55:40a guest that got in trouble for something
01:55:42that they said on your show?
01:55:44We had a couple guests that said stuff that we didn't even ask them
01:55:46and they ended up coming back.
01:55:48Can you take that out?
01:55:50We didn't even ask you that, but we'll take it out.
01:55:52You said that on your own.
01:55:54We're fine with that, though.
01:55:56Our goal has never been, you know, there's people
01:55:58now that are kind of turning their shit into
01:56:00gossip shows and looking
01:56:02for hot tape. Our goal has always
01:56:04been to humanize our guests because we think all
01:56:06of our guests are super dope and just have
01:56:08authentic, real, deep conversation.
01:56:10We get a ton of times where people say,
01:56:12we've never said this before to anybody
01:56:14and they trust us enough.
01:56:16We just wanted to be a safe space.
01:56:18If we go viral, it's for a dope story
01:56:20or an in-depth conversation instead of some click bait.
01:56:22That's smart. We take a similar approach
01:56:24where it's like every guest we've ever had on,
01:56:26we want them to come back.
01:56:28If you come with that approach,
01:56:30you're never going to burn someone.
01:56:32You're appreciating your guests.
01:56:34I want you guys next time you're in Chicago
01:56:36to come back on. If we try to burn you,
01:56:38fuck these guys.
01:56:40Who was the one
01:56:42or two players that you played against that you just
01:56:44hated?
01:56:46Hated?
01:56:48Maybe hated just like
01:56:50defending them or hated them
01:56:52just like actually hated them?
01:56:54I didn't hate nobody
01:56:56to be honest with you.
01:56:58There's a lot of people I thought wasn't good
01:57:00that didn't deserve
01:57:02all the stuff they was getting in my mind.
01:57:04Like who?
01:57:06There you go.
01:57:08This might burn you.
01:57:10He's a hall of famer.
01:57:12He's a hall of famer.
01:57:14As soon as he says his name,
01:57:16we're never getting him as a guest.
01:57:18It's not personal.
01:57:20I just feel like I had a lot of great games
01:57:22against him. I didn't have a better
01:57:24career than him, but when I played
01:57:26against him, I had some great games.
01:57:28Ray Allen.
01:57:30I just feel like that.
01:57:32I'm not saying Ray wasn't great.
01:57:34He was great.
01:57:36One of the greatest shooters.
01:57:38I'm a basketball player. I wasn't
01:57:40one-dimensional. I just didn't shoot.
01:57:42I just didn't play defense. I did everything.
01:57:44I look at myself as
01:57:46different than a lot of these guys that were one-dimensional.
01:57:48You know what I'm saying?
01:57:50I just felt like I was a better player in game.
01:57:52I don't think Ray was one-dimensional though.
01:57:54Most of his career, he was a shooter.
01:57:56At the beginning of his career, he was an athlete. He was dunking in the walk.
01:57:58He was taking off on people and all that.
01:58:00He got a little older.
01:58:02Only LeBron could do it his whole career.
01:58:04That's fair though. You're not saying that he
01:58:06was bad. It's just that you thought
01:58:08you were better than him. He had a better career
01:58:10than me. I admit that, but when it came to lining
01:58:12up on the court against a lot of guys that's
01:58:14Hall of Famers, I bust
01:58:16they ass a lot of nights.
01:58:18It's just the truth.
01:58:20I got to pat myself on the back
01:58:22sometimes because the NBA wouldn't
01:58:24do it because of the trouble I was in.
01:58:26I should have been an all-star multiple
01:58:28years, but I am someone who
01:58:30lined up two teams
01:58:32my first year there, get to
01:58:34the playoffs after double-digit-year
01:58:36droughts. That has to say something.
01:58:38What were those teams? Charlotte and Golden State.
01:58:40Yeah. Golden State
01:58:42was 13 years, and I think
01:58:44Charlotte was like, yeah, had never
01:58:46been. So
01:58:48to be able to do that in the NBA, you have
01:58:50to be a great player. You're just not going to
01:58:52teams and getting them to the playoffs. Okay, so
01:58:54reverse, who would always bust
01:58:56your ass? I got my ass
01:58:58from all of them. That's what I'm saying. I will
01:59:00admit that they bust my ass, but they need to admit
01:59:02it too. Just because y'all Hall of Famers
01:59:04don't mean y'all didn't get your ass bust.
01:59:06I took my ass from all of them
01:59:08because I competed. I tried to stop
01:59:10them. And guys like Ray Allen and Kobe, you can't stop
01:59:12them. You got to try to make them have
01:59:14difficult nights or make it difficult for them.
01:59:16And I made some of those nights difficult, but for the
01:59:18most part, those guys are great for a reason.
01:59:20But I deserve my respect too. Was it
01:59:22equal opportunity trash talk, like you would
01:59:24talk shit to anybody that you were defending? Oh, everybody
01:59:26got it. Everybody got it. Refs, fans?
01:59:28Yeah, everybody got it. It don't work
01:59:30on some guys like Kobe and Ray Allen. These
01:59:32guys, it don't work, but it's good to try.
01:59:34Did you ever have a guy that you
01:59:36just said something and you're like,
01:59:38I have him forever. It's
01:59:40done. I'm mentally in his hands. He's sweet.
01:59:42Oh, man. Who you think is sweet?
01:59:44Oh, who's sweet? Oh, man.
01:59:46I had a lot of guys that were sweet.
01:59:48You know, we're
01:59:50willing to take that extra step. I'm
01:59:52willing to fight if I have to to win the game. You know
01:59:54what I'm saying? To get my respect. I'm willing to go
01:59:56there every game. And it's a lot of guys
01:59:58that ain't willing to do that. Bro, it's just basketball.
02:00:00Bro, it's just basketball. That's when you
02:00:02know you got him, right?
02:00:04It's just basketball. It's just
02:00:06basketball, bro. Not to me.
02:00:08This is how I eat.
02:00:10Yeah, this is how I eat. And I know
02:00:12it's the guy that's coming in right now
02:00:14that's coming in this draft that's coming to try to
02:00:16take my spot. So I got to try to stay here as long as I
02:00:18can. How do you guys feel about
02:00:20rookies coming to the league that had big expectations?
02:00:22We can touch a little bit about how
02:00:24this relates to Kaitlyn Clark, but I know that
02:00:26you guys have been in the league when players have come
02:00:28in where this rookie
02:00:30is so highly touted as the future
02:00:32face of the league,
02:00:34future star. As vets,
02:00:36how do you guys respond to something like that? Challenge
02:00:38them. I was in Golden State when
02:00:40we drafted Steph.
02:00:42I had no idea he was going to be who he was,
02:00:44but for me, I was at the end
02:00:46of my career, so I wanted to go somewhere else.
02:00:48I didn't want to be a part of a rebuilding
02:00:50process, right? But
02:00:52I knew
02:00:54that they drafted Steph
02:00:56to be the face of the team.
02:00:58I didn't know he was going to be who he is now. If I would have
02:01:00known it, I probably would have stayed and got a couple championships
02:01:02off of him, you know what I mean?
02:01:04But you never know. You never know how things are going to pay out.
02:01:06You know what I'm saying? Because you've seen guys that
02:01:08get drafted that don't have good careers,
02:01:10that go number one, that don't
02:01:12last long. When you see guys that get drafted
02:01:14that's supposed to be top 10 draft pick get drafted
02:01:1615, 20, and they end up having a
02:01:18hell of a career. So it's hard
02:01:20to really tell. It depends on that guy and
02:01:22how he's built, you know, coming in with all that
02:01:24stuff on his back. But I also think too, I mean,
02:01:26anybody with some name or
02:01:28exposure coming into the league, you're going to get
02:01:30checked. You're going to get tested.
02:01:32You're going to get hard fouled. You're going to get
02:01:34hit. You're going to get a lot of different things.
02:01:36You're going to get beat up.
02:01:38What I think is so interesting now
02:01:40is it's such a shock to new
02:01:42fans with the women's game.
02:01:44The women's game has always been very chippy,
02:01:46those girls talk a lot of shit. There's been fights.
02:01:48There's, you know, but there just hasn't been as much
02:01:50tension on it. So when
02:01:52the new casual fan or new fan
02:01:54see women doing the same thing as
02:01:56men, it's like, oh my God. They're talking
02:01:58shit on the court. Oh, they're hard fouled.
02:02:00This is a competitive game. So
02:02:02my whole thing with Kaitlyn Carr, because I'm not mad at
02:02:04the, you never want to see no one get hurt from a cheap
02:02:06shot, but as far as her getting beat up,
02:02:08elbowed, hard screen, knocked down, that's
02:02:10kind of the hard knocks of being a rookie.
02:02:12My whole thing, which I said, you know, a couple
02:02:14weeks ago or last week, was where the fuck
02:02:16are her teammates at? You guys got to have her
02:02:18back, whether it's you don't think
02:02:20she's a good person or whatever
02:02:22situation she's given too much without
02:02:24proving anything. No matter what, you got to
02:02:26get all that bullshit out of your heart, because that's why
02:02:28I said, you know, this is the reason why you guys are at the bottom
02:02:30of the WNBAs, because you guys aren't one.
02:02:32You need to be one. Whether there's
02:02:34one star, two stars, or there's a leader,
02:02:36you guys still got to be a team.
02:02:38What bothered me was, wasn't that she
02:02:40was getting knocked down and hard fouled, and
02:02:42I'm not complaining about none of that. I'm complaining
02:02:44to the people who aren't helping her up
02:02:46or who aren't, okay, you knocked my star down,
02:02:48you knocked our rookie down, and we're going to knock yours down.
02:02:50You know, there was just none of that, and
02:02:52to me, I think that's weak.
02:02:54If you guys were doing your podcast while you were still
02:02:56in the league, would you make reporters
02:02:58subscribe before asking?
02:03:00It wouldn't have been suspended
02:03:02from games and getting fined and all kinds
02:03:04of shit. You couldn't speak your mind.
02:03:06I couldn't have had no podcast.
02:03:08No? No. I mean, I would
02:03:10have gone straight to them. Bitch-ass referee,
02:03:12you sucked last night. I would have been calling names
02:03:14out all the time. Yeah, I couldn't have done it. I couldn't have done it.
02:03:16No way. Would you have done it, man? No.
02:03:18No. The only person
02:03:20that made me turn my crazy down was him
02:03:22because we couldn't have two real crazy motherfuckers.
02:03:24Me and Jack didn't play
02:03:26on the team. I was the one,
02:03:28so it was...
02:03:30But I credit. It's a new age, you know,
02:03:32what Draymond has been able to do
02:03:34to kind of set the tone with guys
02:03:36that are currently in it, and when he
02:03:38and all his shit are in the finals and he wouldn't talk
02:03:40to people, he would go drop it fresh on it.
02:03:42I mean, I think that's amazing.
02:03:44Yeah, it's genius. It changes the game.
02:03:46So, I mean, as far as Pat Bev
02:03:48telling someone he can't talk to him because he didn't
02:03:50just subscribe is out of this world.
02:03:52But, I mean, that's Pat Bev.
02:03:54Yeah. I mean, we love him. He obviously works
02:03:56with us, so, I mean, we're like,
02:03:58yeah, you should subscribe.
02:04:00Subscribe. So easy. I think Draymond
02:04:02does shit in games sometimes so that he can...
02:04:04He's got good content to talk about on his podcast.
02:04:06Bump the ratings a little bit.
02:04:08I'm going to talk shit about this real quick.
02:04:10Yeah, I'm going to choke Rudy Gay out,
02:04:12or Rudy Gobert out, and then afterwards
02:04:14I'm going to have like a number one podcast
02:04:16across all the charts. I'm going to say exactly why
02:04:18I do it. It was funny when he started
02:04:20talking about Pat Bev and what happened
02:04:22in their last game. It was like, dude,
02:04:24this is you. That was like the Spider-Man
02:04:26right there. Someone said it was like
02:04:28Osama Bin Laden breaking down ISIS
02:04:30game film.
02:04:32I mean, I do
02:04:36think it's great. I mean, just think how far media's
02:04:38come. It used to be in the papers
02:04:40and then it would be the radio, and
02:04:42then it was on TV, and now you're really getting
02:04:44it from the actual
02:04:46recipient or
02:04:48the person that did it. You know what I mean? So, I think it's
02:04:50dope. It's got to feel freeing
02:04:52for players if they know that they can control their
02:04:54own narrative. It also has to be that fine line.
02:04:56You know what I mean? Because people know now, like, oh, you're spending
02:04:58so much. You need to get in the gym. Because
02:05:00you always got that before we were even doing podcasts
02:05:02and doing shit talking to the fans. So,
02:05:04I couldn't imagine it now, like, you know,
02:05:06having some bad games and still having to
02:05:08put this mic on and talk your shit on the
02:05:10show. And I would imagine it does change
02:05:12the locker room a little bit if there's a guy who's got
02:05:14a podcast in it. I'm just saying,
02:05:16I don't know, but probably.
02:05:18I mean, it would bother me if you
02:05:20go on your podcast every night
02:05:22and doing all that, but you're not performing on the court.
02:05:24That would cause problems. I also would
02:05:26think it would be dope from a standpoint of just imagine
02:05:28all the inside cool shit that we could
02:05:30tell people to happen on the plane, the
02:05:32locker rooms, the pranks, all that kind of
02:05:34fun shit. Oh, I actually had a question about that.
02:05:36Who was the best card player you ever played
02:05:38with? Card player?
02:05:40Uh...
02:05:42I think the biggest cheating card player is Chris Paul.
02:05:44Somehow that motherfucker was always winning.
02:05:46Anthony Johnson or Jermaine O'Neal.
02:05:48Twisted out all the guys with the biggest...
02:05:50We used to have some heavy card games with that
02:05:52Clipper team. Yeah. I remember when I
02:05:54we had some at the end of the season where I
02:05:56traded and I owed probably like 60, 70 racks
02:05:58to these motherfuckers. So when
02:06:00I came back, I had cashier's checks for everyone.
02:06:02How was Blake at cards?
02:06:04Good, but cheated
02:06:06too, I think. Okay. I just think we would, you know,
02:06:08we'd be so, you know, we'd have a few
02:06:10and just start going in the music
02:06:12and next thing, you know, cards are being dealt
02:06:14from under the pile and shit's getting moved in.
02:06:16It's like, these motherfuckers.
02:06:18I had my fair share of winning, but I definitely got hit over the head
02:06:20a couple times. Yeah, I like the idea of you going to
02:06:22like Bank of America and be like, okay, I need a cashier's check
02:06:24for Chris Paul,
02:06:26Blake Griffin,
02:06:28and these people are like,
02:06:30what the hell?
02:06:32This is serious, I actually need this.
02:06:34Can we do some top five talk real quick? Let's do it.
02:06:36Alright, just give me your top five.
02:06:38Who's your top five right now? Top five players
02:06:40playing right now? Playing right now. Current.
02:06:42Jokic, NoOrder.
02:06:44Yep. Jokic, Luka,
02:06:46Shy, Anthony Edwards.
02:06:48Anthony Edwards is already up there?
02:06:50Yeah, my top five right now playing.
02:06:52Yeah, Luka, Jokic,
02:06:54Anthony Edwards, Shy,
02:06:56and I probably would throw
02:07:00Embiid.
02:07:02Okay, so no Tatum?
02:07:04Nah. No Tatum?
02:07:067-6-7.
02:07:08Win the championship, he'll go up. Yep.
02:07:10But they've been floating around, you know.
02:07:12Yeah, 6-7. Okay.
02:07:14Has anyone ever took a bathroom break
02:07:16during the show? We'll wrap up soon.
02:07:18If you need to, you can. Yeah, I want to spray the place up
02:07:20real quick. Okay, yeah, you can.
02:07:22While Matt gives you his five. I'm doing my top five.
02:07:24Yeah, show them where it is. Yeah, Jack used to pee on himself.
02:07:26Wait, you forgot. Just so you know,
02:07:28Jack, you forgot Giannis. Yeah.
02:07:30What's that? Yeah, Giannis 6-7 right now.
02:07:32He was hurt. Okay, alright, he was hurt.
02:07:34But Embiid is always healthy.
02:07:38Well, he's gone. He used to pee on himself?
02:07:40Yeah. Like during games?
02:07:42No, just, you know, his early days
02:07:44and early teen days.
02:07:46He'll tell you when he gets back. It's not like I'm
02:07:48disbulging any new news.
02:07:50He just had a problem. He'd just pee on himself.
02:07:54Top five.
02:07:56Top five.
02:07:58Yeah, again, no order. And I'm not counting
02:08:00on the older guys.
02:08:02I got
02:08:04Jokic, Luka,
02:08:06Giannis,
02:08:10Tatum.
02:08:12What's that?
02:08:14Fifth.
02:08:16Fifth is probably...
02:08:18It's like SGA, Embiid.
02:08:20Embiid, SGA.
02:08:22I like Edwards.
02:08:24This is his coming out party this year.
02:08:26Obviously, he's going to jump in there
02:08:28very soon. I'd say my
02:08:30fifth would probably be...
02:08:32It would be Embiid.
02:08:34He's already got an MVP. Obviously, injuries have
02:08:36played a big role in his career, but yeah, those are probably
02:08:38my top five. So you do have Tatum in your top five?
02:08:40I do have Tatum. I think he's very talented.
02:08:42I just think, as Jack said,
02:08:44I think they kind of
02:08:46raise the bar every time he gets good.
02:08:48He's been doing really good for a long time.
02:08:50If you think about it, coming in the Eastern Conference
02:08:52finals, Ricky here has been to the Eastern Conference
02:08:54finals, what, four or five times in the six
02:08:56years, been to the finals. I just think this
02:08:58year,
02:09:00I want Boston to win for this
02:09:02reason, because I think he is overlooked
02:09:04at times, and he is such a
02:09:06great talent, but I think he needs to win
02:09:08to get the respect from everyone else.
02:09:10Yeah.
02:09:12Jack, someone
02:09:14asked if you really used to pee in the bed
02:09:16or if I was talking shit. No, I didn't.
02:09:18What happened there? Until he was 19.
02:09:2019? Don't take nothing.
02:09:22You were in the league? It was older
02:09:24than that? 25? K.O.E.
02:09:26King of exaggeration.
02:09:28You didn't pee on
02:09:30yourself, you peed on the bed.
02:09:32When I was probably like
02:09:3411 years old, I used to just pee in the bed
02:09:36and I used to go to sleep,
02:09:38because I used to do a lot of drugs, too. I used to go home and go
02:09:40to sleep and just fall asleep and wake up, piss everywhere
02:09:42and didn't even get up. And I feel it.
02:09:44I'd be like, shit, I gotta go to the bathroom.
02:09:46Remember how Adam Sandler in the Waterboy, how they
02:09:48had to hang his shit in the sheets on the clotheslines?
02:09:50Yeah, I used to piss in the bed. I have no shame in my
02:09:52game. I'm a G right now. Very successful.
02:09:54I used to piss in the bed growing up.
02:09:56Look, yeah, you're a model citizen to
02:09:58how people can make it if you piss in the bed.
02:10:00I, too, used to piss
02:10:02in the bed. You can make the NBA
02:10:04just piss in the bed.
02:10:06Yeah, you should do like a PSA
02:10:08for kids.
02:10:10Don't matter if you piss in the bed at a young age,
02:10:12you, too, can piss in the bed.
02:10:14Well, this has been awesome, guys.
02:10:16I have one last question. Rowback question. RHOBACK.com.
02:10:18Promo code TAKE.
02:10:2020% off your first purchase. Q-Zips,
02:10:22polos, hoodies, joggers, shorts.
02:10:24Rowback.com. Promo code TAKE.
02:10:26I like how you just threw that in there.
02:10:28You guys are pros.
02:10:30You guys are good, man.
02:10:32You guys are good.
02:10:34Spell it back to me. That's the question.
02:10:36So, the podcast has been
02:10:38going great. What's a dream guest?
02:10:40What's a dream guest right now? Michael Jordan, for me.
02:10:42Okay. He doesn't do
02:10:44interviews like that, though. And I've been blowing his phone up,
02:10:46too. And does he respond?
02:10:48He's responded once, and the next
02:10:50ten, I haven't got a response.
02:10:52And you keep going? I'm going.
02:10:54He's definitely changed his phone number.
02:10:56Might have, but hey, whoever it is after it,
02:10:58I'm pretty sure they know Mike
02:11:00used to have this number, so hopefully they can forward it to him.
02:11:02I'm not gonna stop texting.
02:11:04Yeah, MJ, but
02:11:06outside of MJ, I'd probably say maybe like
02:11:08Obama or The Rock.
02:11:10Oh, The Rock's a good one. Have you guys had
02:11:12Braun on, or no? No. Do you think he would?
02:11:14He said several
02:11:16times he would, but who knows?
02:11:18There's a lot going on in his life, so obviously it would be
02:11:20amazing to sit down with him.
02:11:22Now that he's in the content game, he might understand it a little bit more.
02:11:24He's having to reach out to
02:11:26people and ask them. Or he might want to save his good
02:11:28shit for his own shit. Yeah, that's true.
02:11:30That's a good point. He's told me
02:11:32several times. At Draymond Green's wedding,
02:11:34we had a few drinks, and he probably told me three or four times
02:11:36he was coming on the show, so we'll see.
02:11:38He would never lie. After a couple drinks,
02:11:40everyone would go on every show.
02:11:42Whatever you need. You promised everybody
02:11:44something by the second drink. I do it all
02:11:46the time. I can't wait to have a drink so I can lie to somebody.
02:11:48It would be an honor.
02:11:50It would be an honor to get Braun on.
02:11:52Is there a player
02:11:54in the league right now that you would like to see develop a
02:11:56podcast?
02:11:58Anthony Edwards. Yes. I think he's
02:12:00a personality. He's
02:12:02an up-and-coming star.
02:12:04I think he is going to be one of the faces of the league
02:12:06in the next couple years, so I think he would be dope.
02:12:08I'd like to see a Jokic podcast, but just about horse
02:12:10racing. Just strictly horses.
02:12:12Drinking beer and horse racing? Yeah, drinking beer and horse racing.
02:12:14I'd subscribe for that. Yeah, definitely.
02:12:16Definitely. Well, guys,
02:12:18congrats on all the success. Thank you guys for coming by.
02:12:20Anytime in Chicago, we'd love to have you on.
02:12:22Appreciate it.
02:12:24All y'all fans, could y'all be our fans now?
02:12:26Yeah, because you said you'd fight
02:12:28me. I got it. I got you.
02:12:30They'll all go subscribe.
02:12:32Once we're locked up, we're locked in for life, bro.
02:12:34I might need you to come back to the office.
02:12:36We're doing a survivor.
02:12:38I might need you to just walk
02:12:40around with me for that. I've had a couple fights,
02:12:42too. I'll help you guys. Yeah, both of you guys
02:12:44can just come and walk behind me. There's bodyguards.
02:12:46There's a guy named Brandon Walker you're going to pass by.
02:12:48You guys can hit him in the face.
02:12:50Be careful,
02:12:52because it might happen, as long as you got
02:12:54the legal bills.
02:12:57Thank you guys.
02:12:59Thank you.

02:13:23I've been using Facebook. I've been getting
02:13:25magnet fishing recently. There's that story
02:13:27about the people out in Queens that found $100,000
02:13:29in a safe. I'm trying to find that.
02:13:31I'm trying to find that and lots
02:13:33of other stuff in the rivers around Chicago.
02:13:35Let me tell you, the magnet
02:13:37fishing groups on Facebook are
02:13:39popping off. That's the place to be.
02:13:41I'm getting all sorts of tips from them.

02:13:49Okay, Firefest
02:13:51of the week, Hank.
02:13:53He
02:13:55should be exempt.
02:13:57Hank should not do a Firefest this week.
02:13:59Pass on Hank.
02:14:01Max, you do a Firefest instead.
02:14:03My Firefest is Hank.
02:14:05Mine's also Hank.
02:14:07Hank had a legitimate one earlier this week.
02:14:09Yeah, he already did it.
02:14:11Max, by the way,
02:14:13are you going to the Water Dogs tomorrow?
02:14:15Water Dogs, maybe.
02:14:17Saturday, Sunday.
02:14:19I'll be on the field rooting
02:14:21for the Water Dogs, Michael Sowers
02:14:23homecoming.
02:14:25Michael Sowers is the man.
02:14:27He's going to have 10 goals.
02:14:29I think that's a lot in lacrosse
02:14:31over two games.
02:14:33He's going to have 10.
02:14:35I promised the Water Dogs a free bar tab
02:14:37if you'd like to match with me or just
02:14:39split with me. They have to go 2-0
02:14:41this weekend and win a fight.
02:14:43Okay, if they win two fights, then
02:14:45I'll double.
02:14:47Perfect. Love it.
02:14:49Max, your
02:14:51Firefest is Hank?
02:14:53Yeah.
02:14:55That's your boss, bro.
02:14:57All of Boston is my Firefest.
02:14:59I also learned a fun fact
02:15:01about Boston. Do you know that they're not allowed
02:15:03to have bottomless mimosas or happy hour
02:15:05because they get in too many bar fights?
02:15:07That rocks.
02:15:09That would be such an honor
02:15:11to have your city have to pass a law
02:15:13because you guys party too hard.
02:15:15Wrong.
02:15:17I'm not partying too hard.
02:15:19Just fighting each other.
02:15:21Drunken fighting is
02:15:23the definition of partying too hard.
02:15:25Getting into bottomless mimosa fights is pretty funny.
02:15:27That's like
02:15:29Zoolander.
02:15:33That's your boss you're talking about, Max.
02:15:35Whatever.
02:15:37PFT.
02:15:39We're skipping you, Hank.
02:15:43Yeah. Agreed.
02:15:47Unless something really bad
02:15:49happens to him.
02:15:51Like that growth on his chin.
02:15:53Swollen lymph node.
02:15:57What if the Mavs
02:15:59just come back?
02:16:01Oh my God, Max.
02:16:03Wouldn't it?
02:16:05Dude, you can't actually
02:16:07think that. No, I don't at all.
02:16:09There's literally zero percent chance.
02:16:11You do because you said it out loud.
02:16:13I know. Well, I'm just thinking
02:16:15we just
02:16:17gave Hank all his flowers. The next episode doesn't
02:16:19even matter. This does feel
02:16:21like we're writing Hank off the show.
02:16:23Yeah. Right? Like this is a big
02:16:25happy goodbye for Hank.
02:16:27But it would be hilarious if the Mavs came back.
02:16:29You think there's a chance.
02:16:31No, I don't. I'm not watching
02:16:33any more games. I'm not watching a single game
02:16:35the rest of the series. Okay.
02:16:37Zero. I'll be watching zero. I'll text you updates.
02:16:39Thanks. I'll need them.
02:16:41Okay.
02:16:43PFT, your Fyre Fest.
02:16:45My Fyre Fest, I guess
02:16:47tying back to something from last episode,
02:16:49the USA tied Brazil in soccer,
02:16:51which was our first tie against Brazil ever,
02:16:53which doesn't really mean shit because we've also
02:16:55beaten them in the past, but the announcer's like,
02:16:57that's our first tie against Brazil. Let's go.
02:16:59That's what losers soccer people are sometimes.
02:17:01But we are losers soccer people.
02:17:03We are losers soccer people. So we were like,
02:17:05it was a good thing that we tied Brazil.
02:17:07But this is like
02:17:09a nightmare scenario for me and
02:17:11people like me who are Berhalter
02:17:13out guys, Greg out guys.
02:17:15I think, are we a Berhalter out
02:17:17podcast? Sure. I think
02:17:19we are. We're just,
02:17:21the US is what we are
02:17:23in soccer. I just, that's been my
02:17:25stance for the longest time.
02:17:27It's like, if we
02:17:29want to, didn't you say PFT
02:17:31we have to go to the Elite Eight next year?
02:17:33Yeah, quarter finals in the World Cup
02:17:35and we've got a good enough team. The players are good enough
02:17:37to do it.
02:17:39We're not a top level soccer
02:17:41country. We have other sports
02:17:43that we care about and I care about those
02:17:45other sports more. That's a fact.
02:17:47Our coach stinks and
02:17:49having him get this
02:17:51tie against Brazil is gonna, because we are
02:17:53a loser country in soccer. What does our coach stink?
02:17:55What does he do that makes us stink?
02:17:57He doesn't play the best players.
02:17:59That's good. They don't play hard.
02:18:01They don't play hard for him. Usually we lose to inferior
02:18:03opponents. But we've always stunk.
02:18:05But the difference is
02:18:07now all of our players are good. You can't
02:18:09say that our players aren't good anymore because
02:18:11they're starting in
02:18:13the same. No, but they're better because they're
02:18:15starting in the EPL. They're starting in
02:18:17La Liga. How many of them? All of them, I think.
02:18:19All of our players? I think all of our
02:18:21starting players are, yeah. Are starting in the EPL?
02:18:23No, not in the EPL. I'm talking
02:18:25the big European leagues.
02:18:27I think all of them are.
02:18:29They're really good. What if the rest of the world
02:18:31just got a little worse?
02:18:33That might have been why we did COVID.
02:18:35Yeah. Just knock everybody
02:18:37down a peg. I'm down to be Burr
02:18:39Halter out. I also just don't know
02:18:43we're not going to win a World Cup
02:18:45so who cares? Probably not.
02:18:47We probably won't win one in the near future.
02:18:49You're sounding like
02:18:51the Mavs coming back in this. But what if
02:18:53we did?
02:18:55It would rock. In 2002 we should have made
02:18:57the semifinals. People forget that. It would rock.
02:18:59This team will be
02:19:01good enough, but the fact that we
02:19:03tied Brazil in a meaningless game
02:19:05an exhibition means that
02:19:07the US Soccer Federation is going to be like
02:19:09Greg's got the team on the right track
02:19:11and he's not going to be fired.
02:19:13Sounds like he does. We've never done that
02:19:15before. We have never
02:19:17tied Brazil. We have beaten them.
02:19:19Our A team versus their A team?
02:19:21Yeah, back in 1998
02:19:23I think. In a tournament.
02:19:25In a bigger game.
02:19:27This isn't their tournament? No, this is a friendly.
02:19:29Getting ready for the South American tournament.
02:19:31Anyways, my point is that
02:19:33this was a bad tie because
02:19:35now it's going to keep our shitty coach around
02:19:37because people are going to be like, good job Greg.
02:19:39You're coaching for your job and you got
02:19:41a major win when you tied Brazil.
02:19:43Although I will say, we won that tie.
02:19:45It's just like when we beat
02:19:47England 0-0.
02:19:51Is his job even in jeopardy?
02:19:53I think it would have been if we got smoked
02:19:55by Brazil. Friendly?
02:19:57Yeah, because Colombia beat us 5-1
02:19:59two days ago. You get fired over
02:20:01a friendly? If the team stinks
02:20:03and then we're going into this big tournament
02:20:05and then they stink in the tournament, then
02:20:07Greg could have been fired.
02:20:09Now we got too much momentum and we're probably
02:20:11going to be good in the tournament and then Greg's going to be around for the World Cup.
02:20:13I feel like I've heard about this guy getting
02:20:15fired forever now. He was fired
02:20:17two years ago. They didn't renew his contract and then
02:20:19they went on a coaching search and they're like,
02:20:21Greg wasn't so bad.
02:20:23They're just bluffing.
02:20:25I don't know.
02:20:27I don't know what's happening, but I do know
02:20:29that it's going to be bad news if he's
02:20:31the coach of the World Cup team. And that's the only thing
02:20:33I don't really care about EPL soccer
02:20:35or any European soccer.
02:20:37I do care about international. I like watching
02:20:39the U.S. men's team do well.
02:20:41I do too. This is bad. I just know what
02:20:43our ceiling is.
02:20:45I'm the most realistic U.S.
02:20:47men's national team fan of all time.
02:20:49I think our ceiling is
02:20:51probably the semi-finals. At the
02:20:53best in the next World Cup.
02:20:55Okay. And what happens if we get bounced
02:20:57in the first, in the group play?
02:20:59Then Berhalter out.
02:21:01Okay. And then the next guy will get us
02:21:03to... Well, then we'll rehire Berhalter
02:21:05after six months. Bounced in the first round.
02:21:07Okay. I guess if you're going to be
02:21:09shitty, it's actually not bad to have a
02:21:11scapegoat. If we're going to be
02:21:13a bad team, if we
02:21:15end up sucking in the South American tournament
02:21:17and then we suck in the World Cup,
02:21:19I can always be like, our players are so good.
02:21:21If we just had a good coach, we would have won.
02:21:23Berhalter might be the greatest
02:21:25thing for U.S. men's national team
02:21:27because it gives fans hope
02:21:29that a coaching change will change
02:21:31the entire outcome
02:21:33of the history of soccer in this
02:21:35country when we have years and years
02:21:37and years of history to tell us it won't.
02:21:39But you can tell yourself that Berhalter
02:21:41out will change that. If you
02:21:43do fire Berhalter
02:21:45and then the next guy comes
02:21:47and we just are the same exact soccer country,
02:21:49you might have to face the fact that
02:21:51we are what we are. Yeah, like
02:21:53last season, got a new
02:21:55owner in D.C.
02:21:57Didn't really have anybody to blame the shittiness of.
02:21:59Right, right.
02:22:01You don't want to have that happen. You want the
02:22:03scapegoat. Yeah, so I
02:22:05could see myself being Berhalter in
02:22:07just so that I guarantee myself
02:22:09a scapegoat. Yeah.
02:22:11But he's still a shitty coach. That's my piece.
02:22:13I'm going to follow your lead, so I'll go Berhalter
02:22:15out for now, as of right now.
02:22:17Okay, my fire fest.
02:22:19I don't know if I should tell this story, but I'll
02:22:21just tell it. Fuck it.
02:22:23I got in a
02:22:25I got in a splash battle with like a
02:22:27seven year old at the water
02:22:29park yesterday. I don't know if that was
02:22:31me being a bad person or not.
02:22:33I would like you guys to tell me if I'm
02:22:35a bad person or not. Did you win?
02:22:37So here's what happened.
02:22:39Went to the water park, took my
02:22:41son. I'm on vacation with my
02:22:43family and then
02:22:45friends like a couple
02:22:47friend and then their kid as well.
02:22:49We went to the water park having
02:22:51a great time about to leave the
02:22:53water park and the seven year old comes up
02:22:55to me and he just starts splashing
02:22:57me in the face like legit
02:22:59eye contact splashing me in the face.
02:23:01I said I turned to him as a can you
02:23:03please stop splashing me in the face
02:23:05and he kept on splashing me in the face
02:23:07and then I said a little louder because how it works
02:23:09with these water parks is like there's parents
02:23:11kind of around watching.
02:23:13So if you know I said
02:23:15please stop splashing
02:23:17me in the face hoping a parent like hey
02:23:19Johnny stop stop splashing
02:23:21that man with the sponge
02:23:23Bob body and the big tits in the face
02:23:25and I would be like okay great
02:23:27doesn't know
02:23:29parent no parent looks up no
02:23:31parents is anything another time please
02:23:33stop splashing me in the face kid
02:23:35just standing there splashing me in the face
02:23:37three times
02:23:39so I just went tsunami
02:23:41splash like one of these
02:23:43just absolutely
02:23:45just smash him in the face
02:23:47with a splash and then he left
02:23:49I think you had to do that I think you're right
02:23:51but here's why not because you
02:23:53were being splashed but because
02:23:55your children were there and if they
02:23:57see their dad getting bullied by a seven
02:23:59year old right and losing a splash
02:24:01fight right that's the worst thing
02:24:03that could ever that's something that they'll be in therapy for
02:24:05for 60 years it was one
02:24:07splash and done I didn't I didn't
02:24:09I didn't I could have stayed
02:24:11there and can just kept on splashing
02:24:13the kid if I wanted to but I didn't want to I just
02:24:15wanted to get in the end the issue
02:24:17because he was like almost following me
02:24:19splashing me in the face now your son will get
02:24:21to go to school and say like my dad
02:24:23could splash the fuck out of your dad
02:24:25yeah because I'm already dealing with the whole
02:24:27like the kid in his classes
02:24:29his dad is stronger than me so
02:24:31I needed to do something to get a little bit of
02:24:33power back yeah do you think this is
02:24:35fair play I think it's totally fair play yeah
02:24:37there's only gonna be two splashes
02:24:39my dad gets a hold of your dad
02:24:41him splashing the water your dad's head
02:24:43splashing open on the pavement
02:24:45I've been feeling bad about it
02:24:47you just gotta parents don't step in you gotta do what you gotta do
02:24:49right it was just a
02:24:51quick splash right back in his face
02:24:53then he was gone and he didn't even care
02:24:55he didn't cry or anything he just literally
02:24:57just left the scene he's like alright I can't
02:24:59pick on this guy anymore because he was
02:25:01picking on me legit picking
02:25:03on me I felt picked on
02:25:05there's nothing I could do
02:25:07also I've had the revelation just being
02:25:09on vacation in
02:25:11pool environments
02:25:13the light bulb you have weird moments
02:25:15as a parent where the light bulb
02:25:17clicks and you're like god damn it
02:25:19I sucked so much as a kid for my
02:25:21parents trying to get my
02:25:23kids out of the pool it like
02:25:25clicked I had that moment where I was like
02:25:27I remember vividly just
02:25:29never get it refusing to get out of the pool
02:25:31as a kid and how much that must have
02:25:33sucked because it sucks because you know that your parents
02:25:35have clothes on right
02:25:37you're in a pool you can just be like no
02:25:39I used to do the thing where I would lay down
02:25:41where I'd lay on my back and pretend that
02:25:43I couldn't hear because my ears were under the
02:25:45water yeah and I would just lay there
02:25:47and uh or like go
02:25:49underwater and just keep going underwater and then
02:25:51come up for a little breath and go back underwater
02:25:53just stay in the pool forever that sucked
02:25:55if you're swimming around you're making the splash
02:25:57noises you can't hear anything right
02:25:59yeah right it's a strong move and I don't
02:26:01think the kids are going to stop doing that anytime soon
02:26:03no they're smart they're very smart
02:26:05all right Jake you want to finish this off
02:26:07yeah um I've been back on a
02:26:09pickleball kick lately and
02:26:11this happened last year
02:26:13I was standing in front of the kitchen and I accidentally
02:26:15hit a winner
02:26:17in a lady's face
02:26:19ooh that's way worse
02:26:21than me splashing that seven year old
02:26:23yeah I said sorry
02:26:25she was okay but the guilt afterwards
02:26:27was bad we won the point but
02:26:29we lost a lot more
02:26:31so this is the second time you smashed a woman
02:26:33in the face
02:26:35during a pickleball point
02:26:37you keep
02:26:39finding yourself getting
02:26:41your balls in women's faces
02:26:43well
02:26:45yeah the way it works is that if you're both
02:26:47at the kitchen you leave a ball high
02:26:49oh so the woman should be in the kitchen
02:26:51yeah right okay got it
02:26:53oh but I think Jake's saying she shouldn't be
02:26:55in the kitchen no she wasn't in the kitchen
02:26:57she wasn't in the kitchen
02:26:59you were punishing her for not being
02:27:01in the kitchen no if she was in the kitchen
02:27:03she'd be disqualified
02:27:05yeah
02:27:07but any high ball in front of the
02:27:09kitchen you're putting it away it just happened
02:27:11to hit her and I felt bad
02:27:13did you just do the racket in the air or did you go for it
02:27:15yeah no I'm just like sorry
02:27:17did she make a noise
02:27:19uh not that I know of
02:27:21did she yelp
02:27:23no I just said sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry
02:27:25are you okay and she started crying
02:27:27and was like god damn it
02:27:29Jake did you make a noise when you hit it
02:27:31uh I don't think
02:27:33so there's not as much grunting in pickleball
02:27:35that's a lie
02:27:37you absolutely grunt no I do here
02:27:39and there but not like tennis
02:27:41you grunted in ping pong
02:27:43oh yeah
02:27:47okay different sports
02:27:49no that's less than pickleball
02:27:51not if you're slamming it
02:27:53which apparently you do
02:27:55a lot to women
02:27:57how old was this woman
02:27:59uh
02:28:01she was probably about my age
02:28:03okay are you ever
02:28:05catching yourself playing like against elderly people
02:28:07yeah it happens but that's what
02:28:09makes pickleball so great is like
02:28:11you don't age
02:28:13gender it doesn't really
02:28:15matter like people
02:28:17older people can really be good at this game
02:28:19yeah
02:28:21I saw I read something that was like
02:28:23pickleball was invented to
02:28:25like to finally try to get back
02:28:27at boomers who have like ruined
02:28:29the entire country
02:28:31to just get them to play this sport and get injured
02:28:33which I kind of like that theory
02:28:35yeah
02:28:37but it's a very inclusive game it's fun
02:28:39okay
02:28:41except if you're across from Jake
02:28:43and then outside the kitchen then you'll get smashed
02:28:45is it a one on one game
02:28:47it's mostly doubles
02:28:49mixed doubles or was it you and a
02:28:51guy against two girls
02:28:53this game was pick up so it was just like
02:28:55four on four off so it was me
02:28:57and a guy against a guy and a girl
02:28:59okay and you smash the girl because she
02:29:01was not in the kitchen
02:29:03no
02:29:05oh my god memes already did a
02:29:07he did a face
02:29:09mash of
02:29:11bucker and Jake Marsh
02:29:13oh my god that was so quick
02:29:15yeah that was really quick
02:29:17that was crazy
02:29:19yeah I
02:29:21respect appreciate women
02:29:25yes
02:29:27that didn't end awkwardly
02:29:29I mean anything
02:29:31I said you guys would have
02:29:33yeah worked your magic
02:29:35okay okay
02:29:37should we do numbers

02:29:5733 if Hank wins this
02:29:59can we all agree to murder him
02:30:01yes okay if the thing on his
02:30:03chin doesn't murder him first
