Narendra Modi, after being elected leader of the NDA parliamentary party, said he would strive for unanimity in all decisions during his third term as Prime Minister. Calling the NDA an "organic alliance" committed to putting the "nation first", Modi outlined the next government's priorities as good governance, development, improving quality of life, and minimum interference in common citizens' lives.

He emphasized the NDA's dedication to these goals over the next 10 years. However, what lies ahead is a coalition government for five years. What does this mandate means for Modi we discussed with Senior Journalist Sudesh Verma.

00:00 It's a special broadcast on One India as the NDA parliamentary meet has just concluded
00:07 and a joint united NDA has put its best foot forward. Who else to discuss this better than
00:13 the former spokesperson of the BJP and author and insider of the BJP, Sudesh Verma, who joins
00:19 us here on the broadcast. Thank you, Sudesh, for joining us. Thank you. First things first,
00:25 Prime Minister Modi spoke volumes today and we saw the whole world saw the camaraderie between
00:30 Chandra Babu Naidu, Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Modi. So the inclination or the talks
00:37 of a possible rift or someone walking out of India Alliance is completely done and dusted.
00:42 It's out of the window now. What lies ahead now from here?
00:49 You see, a lot of confusion was created by the media in particular and because of certain
00:55 statements by India Alliance leaders that some of our allies could walk down to them and they
01:02 would be in a position to form a government. It was very unethical of them to think so because
01:08 we all contested as NDA. It was a pre-poll alliance. They knew which side they were going.
01:14 And if Chandra Babu Naidu today has done spectacularly in Andhra Pradesh and we have
01:19 done spectacularly in Telangana, it is because of the alliance, isn't it? So you cannot imagine
01:26 these allies to leave the NDA now because you see, they are very matured politicians. Chandra
01:32 Babu Naidu was earlier also a member of the NDA when Vajpayee was the Prime Minister. You know
01:38 that Nitish Kumar has been a member of the NDA. He was a radio minister when Vajpayee was Prime
01:43 Minister. You know, Chirag Paswan, all these people, they are very much integral part of
01:48 NDA. So today's meeting would send that message right across very strongly that those who are
01:55 dreaming of doing something, trying to fish in the troubled waters. So they have been negated and
02:04 they have been given a befitting reply by the NDA. Okay. My colleague Nagyan Singh is also,
02:09 and again, the talks of, you know, the house in order. But can Prime Minister Modi lead this
02:16 alliance as an alliance partner where he doesn't have the requisite numbers?
02:20 Exactly. This is what I wanted to ask, Sudeshji, that he has no experience of running a government
02:29 in centre. We have heard him always speaking about Modi government. But even after the victory,
02:36 even after getting more than 240 seats, when he went to give the victory speech,
02:43 not even a single time he said Modi government. All the time he was saying NDA government.
02:49 The confidence was not as such. So do you think that he's going to be as strong as the Prime
02:56 Minister he was from 2014 till 2024 to take all the decisions? How is that going to change? And
03:03 of course, the demands for all the important ministries, defence ministry, we know about
03:10 railways that how Bihar and Nitish Kumar, they are so close to the subject of railways ministry.
03:17 So what is going to happen in all that? And how Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to work
03:22 with the coalition? Because we know that most of the times it was almost like a, you know,
03:28 notice board. But yesterday they did a meeting of seven and a half hours just to discuss all
03:34 these things. We still have to see who is going to get what. But what do you think? Is he going
03:38 to be as powerful as he was? Nagendji, let me remind you that 2014, even when the BJP was the
03:49 single largest party and had majority on its own, BJP had taken all the allies together.
03:55 It was an India government. Again, in 2019, we got a massive majority. Still,
04:01 it was an India government. But we never heard about it. We never heard.
04:06 No, no. Prime Minister speaks about himself. He would talk as Prime Minister, then he would talk
04:12 about himself. We always spoke as India government. But BJP talks about BJP, then it is BJP
04:18 government. It was always in character India government. You see a person like Mr. Ramdas
04:23 Athalwe from RPS, one member, he was cabinet minister. So what could be the better expression
04:29 of coalition dharma than this, that even one member person becomes a cabinet minister because
04:35 he holds certain status in politics in society. So India was always there. They were always
04:40 respected. There was no problem in the alliance. Yes, new alliance partners have come at the
04:45 centre and they know how Modi functions. They know how the BJP functions. They know the plus
04:51 and minuses. So when they are there, naturally, they know the alliance much better. Modi ji is
04:56 very experienced politician. He knows how to handle his friends. And he is the one, you know,
05:01 if he meets you tomorrow again, trust me, you will become his friend. That is the way he has
05:05 cultivated friends all across the world. But we know what happened with all the
05:10 coalition that he has worked with. We know what happened in Maharashtra. We do know what happened
05:15 in Bihar. So understanding all that coalition must not be feeling really safe. If it was possible
05:23 to BJP and come up in a coalition, but she maybe she is little smart. She decided not to join
05:32 BJP. She was in the past in 98. But let me remind for the benefit of your viewers.
05:41 He is a Senator. I'm gonna need a lot of time. We'll put each other.

10:25 You have to take up the mantle.
10:26 But the question here is,
10:27 if we are talking about statistically
10:29 80 crore people being fed by the government
10:32 and the food is taken care of by the government,
10:35 so those 80 crore people,
10:36 we are not looking them for startups
10:38 or for starting their own business
10:41 in which they can take loans and then repay
10:43 because that loan thing is also some sort of a spiral
10:47 in which if a middle class, lower middle class
10:49 or below poverty line people get stuck,
10:52 then the escaping is very difficult.
10:54 So the question here is,
10:55 if Modi ji is speaking about generating jobs for your own,
10:59 he is speaking about a very smaller section of the society.
11:02 That too under the criticism that BJP (speaking in foreign language)

11:10 (speaking in foreign language)
11:15 (speaking in foreign language)
11:19 (speaking in foreign language)

12:43 - I think we're not going to finish it yet.
13:05 I have some questions.
13:07 - Okay.
13:08 - But before I let you go,
13:10 I just want to know when Prime Minister Narendra Modi
13:13 would go to Manipur.
13:15 During elections, he didn't go to Manipur
13:17 and it has been demand of Manipuris
13:19 that at least he visits that place at least once.
13:22 And so many people have died.
13:24 It has been more than one year of violence
13:27 and things are not stable yet.
13:29 So what do you think?
13:30 When is he going to go to Manipur?
13:32 At least just to meet some people
13:34 and tell them that, okay, I'm here.
13:36 I'm here for the third term.
13:38 There's nothing like that that happened in the past.
13:40 - You see, Northeast, Northeast,
13:44 or us Lakshmi, we call it,
13:46 not seven sisters, seven sisters plus eight,
13:49 stay in the heart of Prime Minister.
13:53 He does not believe in doing tokenism.
13:56 He has his capable ministers
13:59 who have been monitoring the events.
14:02 Ethnic violence happened, that is a reality.
14:04 Political parties tried to fish in troubled waters,
14:07 that is also a reality.
14:09 Everybody who is in Manipur or watching Manipur
14:12 know why it happened.
14:15 It's a very sad story.
14:17 We should not try to do politics over that.
14:19 Whenever the time is good,
14:20 Prime Minister will definitely go because Northeast,
14:22 he is one Prime Minister
14:24 who has visited Northeast so many times.
14:27 You're talking of Manipur, he will definitely go.
14:29 Wait for the swearing-in to be complete
14:32 and let the government come.
14:33 Government has priority
14:35 and the Prime Minister said that he will give a task
14:38 of 100 days to his government.
14:39 And I'm sure that you'll have many, many good news
14:42 for Northeast as well.
14:44 - Right, one final question, sir,
14:46 which a lot of people wanted to know.
14:48 You personally, the results that have come,
14:50 Lok Sabha 24 results, how do you see them?
14:53 Needless to say, BJP itself found it below expectation.
14:58 But is there something that the BJP
15:01 would go back to the drawing board and see what went wrong?
15:04 - You see, I see a great silver lining in these results.
15:10 Even if you assume that this is the worst performance
15:12 the BJP has given,
15:14 it's worst is also very good.
15:17 240 is a very respectable number.
15:20 Watch Faiji when he was the Prime Minister,
15:22 on top of his popularity after Kargil war,
15:25 BJP got 182.
15:27 Don't forget this.
15:29 So we have crossed that threshold.
15:31 We have done extremely bad in money,
15:33 sorry, in Uttar Pradesh, in Maharashtra,
15:36 in Haryana, in Rajasthan, West Bengal.
15:41 So these are the states we'll improve next time
15:43 because we cannot go to 30 plus in Uttar Pradesh.
15:47 Even at the average level, 50 used to be our mark.
15:50 So you can imagine that the BJP is,
15:53 2029 roadmap is very clear.
15:56 We have expanded in Orissa.
15:58 First time we are forming a government there.
16:00 We have expanded in Tamil Nadu, 11% votes.
16:03 In Punjab, where we contested 13 seats on our own,
16:07 independently, not in alliance with Kalidhar.
16:09 We have pulled 18% votes.
16:11 We are the third poll in Punjab now.
16:13 So see the silver lining.
16:15 In Kerala, we have got one MP.
16:17 So we are bound to do much better in 2029.
16:22 - Right. No doubt, Tershish.
16:24 Silver lining is there.
16:25 And with this, I think, and again, we should bid Mr. Verma
16:28 a good day here.
16:29 Silver lining is there, Sudeshi.
16:32 Obviously, but some of the writings on the wall,
16:35 - We have witnessed Pankaj's horizontal expansion.
16:38 - Yes, expansion is there, sir.
16:40 No doubt about that.
16:41 And we also read your latest article,
16:44 your editorial piece on oneindia.com,
16:47 where you have mentioned that how the states
16:49 that you mentioned have, if not given them the mandate,
16:53 but given them the hope that, yes, next time onwards,
16:55 if course corrected, you know,
16:58 the results could be far, far better.
17:01 No doubt.
17:02 - Adani, if you turn in the Modi-ji.
17:04 - But something happens or not,
17:07 the way the people or the politicians have been speaking,
17:12 that is definitely going to change after this election.
17:15 The way they have expressed.
17:18 - Modi language, if you talk about.
17:19 - Also, people calling themselves
17:21 that they have been sent by Parmatma.
17:23 I don't know how the voters reacted to it,
17:27 but I think there will be limited dialogues,
17:30 not these kind of dialogues,
17:32 which can, you know, really change the course of election.
17:37 When you said, "Hum Ram ko laaye hain,
17:39 "Hum unko laayenge,"
17:41 lekin it all, you know, really didn't work.
17:45 So I think there will be retrospection, of course,
17:48 which I think. - BJP after the government is formed?
17:51 - BJP is one such party,
17:53 again, which Sudeshji would also agree to,
17:56 since he spends time there at the headquarters.
18:00 He has in touch with, you know, all the heads there.
18:05 BJP is a party which will not take this figures,
18:08 you know, lightly.
18:10 They will definitely go back, course correct,
18:12 or whatever is needed.
18:13 - Especially UP.
18:14 - Especially UP.
18:15 I mean, that was one of the eye-openers.
18:17 I mean, there are certain assembly elections also coming up.
18:21 Nonetheless, Sudeshji, with one promise,
18:24 that we would, you know, want to hear from you time and again,
18:28 with this promise, let us--
18:30 - And on 9th, of course, we are going to connect--
18:32 - Sure, sure, sure.
18:33 It's lovely talking to you, Pankaj, again.
18:36 - Thank you.
18:37 - It's really nice talking to you.
18:38 We should discuss and debate.
18:40 There's no point.
18:41 You can attack the BJP.
18:42 You can hold your editorial position,
18:44 and I'm there to defend my position logically.
18:46 I won't be logical in my debate.
18:48 - One India.
18:49 - We have to be the devil's advocate,
18:51 and either it's you or someone from Congress,
18:54 we are going to be the devil's advocate.
18:57 - We wanted to hear it from Sudeshji first,
18:59 you know, as a BJP's perspective.
19:02 9th onwards, it's a full house.
19:04 Sudeshji, thank you so much for speaking.
19:06 - Thank you.
19:07 Thank you.
