Lingen Davies Celebrate Their 45th Birthday

00:00My name is Naomi and I'm the Chief Executive at Lingan Davis and I've been with the charity.

00:04I've been very very fortunate to be in this role since 2016.

00:08We're here today to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Lingan Davis. It is today the 5th of June

00:151979 that Berlin Lingan and Frank Davis first launched the charity

00:20in response to a complete lack at the time of cancer services in

00:25Shropshire, Telford and Mid Wales. Since then

00:29the

00:31original appeal that Lingan and Davis launched

00:34led to radiotherapy services being brought into county for the first time

00:38in history and that meant that people across our region were not having to travel those really really long distances

00:44to access that essential treatment that they need. And the Cancer Centre at Sheesbury is now seeing

00:49over about 4,000 new cases a year on top of all the existing people who are going through the centre

00:54so it's a really really busy unit and now it seems completely ridiculous that that would not have been there.

01:01Since that original appeal the charity has grown

01:04exponentially. All these people in blue jackets here you can see today are

01:08part of our most of our fabulous staff team and there's some of our amazing trustees and volunteers among the group as well.

01:15The charity has gone from that very very organic

01:20Mayor's appeal which led to that huge initial impact to now really being an organisation that funds

01:26huge investment into local services and also delivers health engagement and

01:31we talk about cancer prevention, we talk about signs and symptoms and we try and help people to feel well and to improve their well-being

01:38and their quality of life beyond their diagnosis of cancer.

01:41I'm really really proud of where the charity's got to today and it's a huge testament to a lot of the people who are here

01:47but also to the community that have supported us endlessly and we keep every time we meet with people

01:53you know asking them to stay with us and asking them to keep supporting because it is such an essential service

01:58that we want to make sure is the very very best for the people of Shropshire, Telford and Mid Wales.
