00:00It's Liverpool John Lennon Airport's busiest time of year once again.
00:04Thousands of passengers from across the North West and North Wales are expected
00:08to jet off abroad from Liverpool for their holidays over the coming weeks.
00:13We always say to passengers, don't leave everything to last minute, plan ahead.
00:18A, because it makes life a lot more relaxing when you get to the airport in
00:23the first place and also it can save you money. If you book your car park in early,
00:26book other bits and pieces of your journey early, you can save money.
00:30So don't leave those sort of things at the last minute.
00:32Parking prices vary depending on the duration of your stay and the type of parking you've paid for.
00:38Long stay options are often cheaper if booked in advance.
00:41If you're looking to take public transport, the closest train station to the airport
00:45is Liverpool South Parkway. Located three miles from the airport itself,
00:49buses are available between the airport and station, which operate up to every 20 minutes.
00:54Going on holiday for two weeks, whether it's all-inclusive or you're booking your own accommodation,
00:59some countries are dearer than others. So it's worth shopping around, definitely.
01:04And we've certainly seen that Turkey has been popular because it's very good value for money.
01:08The UK's number one airport is set for its busiest summer yet.
01:11Once again, the airport's been named best in the UK by Consumer Champions, which
01:16those passengers who flew from John Lennon reported a first-class experience from start to finish.
01:21They said parking was hassle-free and reasonably priced, a short walk to the terminal where they
01:26encountered friendly and helpful staff and whizzed through security in an average of just 11 minutes.
01:32Getting through security is still really quick, you know, on average it's kind of 15 minutes kind of time,
01:37but there are certain times of the day when it can be very busy or things can
01:42unexpectedly change, equipment failures potentially completely unforeseen,
01:46so we always advise don't leave it to the last minute. There's every chance you'll get through
01:50nice and quickly and smoothly.
01:52The arrival of Jet 2 with their flights operating to 20 sunshine destinations and bringing an additional half a million passengers
01:59means the airport is planning ahead for its busiest summer since the pandemic.
02:03But what destinations are proving most popular?
02:06All those typical Mediterranean hotspots, I mean Jet 2, running flights to 20 destinations from here this year,
02:14on top of what we've already got, some really successful routes with EasyJet and Ryanair,
02:18so Mediterranean, you've got Greece, Turkey is proving really popular this year, we've seen a big big increase in Turkey flights,
02:25but Southern Spain, the Balearics, the Canaries, we've got flights the first time over to Madeira now.
02:31Liverpool is one of the UK's first airports and at the forefront of aviation in the region for many years.
02:37There have been a lot of changes over the past nine decades in terms of the building itself and passenger numbers.
02:42With insecurity as well, treat it as exactly as it has been over the last few years,
02:47so you've still got to take your liquids out, there's a limit on how much,
02:52and take your laptop and other electronics out of your bag, so be prepared for all those, the same procedures that we've had in recent years.
