00:00 With reports showing that people are more eager than ever to get their annual summer holidays locked in,
00:06 we have been at Liverpool John Lennon Airport to find out where Scousers are jetting off to this year.
00:13 No surprises. Certainly the place that we see year in, year out that are the most popular are Mediterranean sunspots.
00:21 So you can almost predict what they're going to be. It'll be Mallorca, it'll be places like Malaga and Alicante.
00:28 A little bit further afield, Dalaman over in Turkey, getting more and more popular.
00:34 Very good value for money holidays over in Turkey these days.
00:38 Tenerife, Arecife, Lanzarote as it's now called, over in the Canaries again, also popular.
00:45 So yeah, it's those traditional kind of summer sunspots which families in particular really enjoy flying to from here,
00:51 which we're going to see lots of passengers on.
00:53 Back in May 2023, Jet2 announced they'd launch flights from Liverpool.
00:58 The airline and tour operators put on 20 sunshine destinations on sale for summer 24,
01:04 operating up to 54 weekly flights to destinations including Greece, Madeira and Cyprus.
01:11 I think they're also going to be bringing in quite a lot more frequency,
01:13 so as opposed to where we've seen maybe one or two flights a week to some destinations,
01:17 they're increasing that so that people have now got a much wider choice of when they travel and who they travel with,
01:23 which is really good for us.
01:25 Having topped the 2023 Which UK Airport survey in recognition of its high levels of customer satisfaction,
01:34 they've been focusing on helping to make air travel accessible to all.
01:38 The airport have now opened a sensory space in the departure lounge.
01:42 It took £35,000 to develop and offers a calming space for children and adults with autism
01:48 and other special needs to acclimatise before they fly.
01:51 Summer 2024 will probably be our busiest, certainly since we've come back from Covid.
01:58 And this year in particular, we've got the arrival of Jet2 for the first time,
02:03 which is bringing about an extra half a million passengers.
02:06 So yeah, there's quite a bit of building work going on, getting ready really.
02:09 So Jet2 are building their own new desks and new ticket areas.
02:12 We've got a lot of work also going on elsewhere around new retail areas.
02:16 So we're just upgrading and making sure we're ready for when the increase in passengers comes in a few weeks' time.
02:22 Barhead Travel Liverpool have put together their predictions for 2024.
02:26 They say value for money remains a top priority.
02:29 All Inclusive is making up more than one in four of their new bookings
02:34 as people look to budget in advance and spend less when away.
02:38 City breaks are really important and for us it's that year-round traffic.
02:42 So it's not just summer-based.
02:44 Places that we always see, places like Amsterdam, Budapest is quite popular,
02:48 Krakow over in Poland is a really beautiful city that people are taking advantage of.
02:52 Nice down in the south of France, a bit more seasonal.
02:56 But again, there's some great things to do.
02:58 You get the weather down there, then you can have a fantastic time.
03:00 So yeah, weekend break market is always very popular for passengers through here.
