00:00 The High Court in Kuala Lumpur has instructed Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor to file her defence
00:05 by July 4 in response to a lawsuit filed by One Malaysia Development Senderian Berhad
00:10 (1MDB) seeking to recover US$346 million allegedly misused in the purchase of luxury goods.
00:19 High Court Deputy Registrar S. Malar Selvi also ordered 1MDB as the plaintiff to file
00:26 their statement of claim before June 4.
00:30 These deadlines were set during case management on Friday.
00:33 On May 9, 1MDB, together with SRC International Senderian Berhad and nine subsidiaries, filed
00:40 a lawsuit against Rosmah seeking US$346 million.
00:45 The plaintiffs alleged that Rosmah, the wife of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib
00:49 Razak, used funds from the companies to buy luxury items such as jewellery, watches and
00:55 handbags.
00:56 The lawsuit named Rosmah as the first defendant and Shabnam Narayanda Staswani, also known
01:01 as Natasha Mirpuri, a Singapore-based fashion designer, as the second defendant.
01:07 The plaintiffs claimed that Shabnam procured luxury items on behalf of Rosmah.
01:12 According to the plaintiffs, funds from 1MDB and its subsidiaries were funnelled through
01:16 various offshore entities and paid to 48 vendors across 14 jurisdictions for the luxury goods.
01:24 They alleged that a total of 320 payments amounting to over US$346 million were made.
01:32 The plaintiffs argued that the luxury goods were traceable substitutes of 1MDB and its
01:37 subsidiaries' trust property, thus granting them an equitable proprietary interest in
01:43 the items.
01:45 They are seeking a court declaration affirming this interest and an order for Rosmah to pay
01:50 the plaintiffs US$346 million.
01:54 The next case management is fixed on June 14.
