00:00 The shop that I really miss is Woolworths.
00:02 Used to go up Princess Street, had a great selection.
00:05 But used to get, when I was a wee boy, used to get a wee man.
00:09 Like every Saturday if I'd meet a good boy, like a toy cowboy,
00:13 about that size, or an Indian, or a fireman, or a soldier,
00:19 or all the different characters and I'd pull up a wee collection.
00:23 So that was me, my weekly treat to Woolworths and Princess Street.
00:26 So I say bring back Woolies.
00:28 Shops like Debenhams. I thought it wasn't just Debenhams,
00:32 or products, it was like a wide range from other places.
00:36 It was really good for everything really.
00:38 And I really loved British Home Stores,
00:40 which was really good, especially in the lead up to Christmas.
00:43 I do miss Jenner's, I think that was a real bad move.
00:47 Not passing that on to somebody, you know, that could have been a tourist attraction.
00:52 You go down south and you get other places like Fenix and things like that.
00:57 Loads of people pile around them, and if I'd got a coffee or something to eat,
01:00 you could have got a really good food basket in there.
01:02 One thing that Edinburgh is missing, okay they've opened one up at
01:06 Leith Street, which is a success, but Jenner's could have done it as well.
01:13 Apart from that, I think things have to move on,
01:16 but you know, maybe we don't need quite so many coffee shops and bakeries in Leith,
01:21 but eh, diversity.
01:23 Well I miss all the shops, I'm a russet from Edinburgh and I live in Stirling,
01:25 but born and bred in Edinburgh.
01:27 My mum's favourite shopping area was always in the Kirgit,
01:30 the Woolies behind you, and it was always the indoor markets as well.
01:34 So all these different types of stores, but particularly it was the indoor market,
01:38 which I remember as a wee boy, my mum's favourite shop,
01:40 was just along the road in Kirgit.
