During remarks on the Senate floor, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) spoke about the bipartisan border deal that was killed by Republicans after Donald Trump voiced his opposition to it.

00:00 Now, on the border, it's been 97 days since Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans blocked
00:05 the strongest, most comprehensive border security bill America has seen in a generation.
00:11 And they still have zero plan to actually fix the problem.
00:15 President Biden, meanwhile, is taking action to secure our border.
00:19 Last week, the President began announcing a series of administrative actions to go after
00:24 bad actors in Central America and to use whatever powers he can from the executive branch.
00:31 Here in the Senate, we have not walked away from the table.
00:35 We know we need to fix the border.
00:38 The American people demand we fix the border, and we call on our Republican colleagues,
00:42 once and for all, to join us in taking real bipartisan action.
00:48 Democrats agree that the status quo on the border cannot continue.
00:52 We want to pass border security in Congress by working in a bipartisan way.
00:56 And so three months ago, we brought to the floor a comprehensive security bill, border
01:01 security bill, months in the making.
01:03 A bill that didn't just talk the talk about border security, but walked the walk.
01:09 It updated asylum, had more money for border agents and judges, and was supported by conservatives
01:14 like the Wall Street Journal editorial page board.
01:18 Our border bill was not a messaging bill.
01:20 It was the result of bipartisan negotiation.
01:24 Senators Murphy and Sinema and Lankford, with input from a wide range of stakeholders on
01:29 both sides.
01:30 If both chambers would have had a chance to vote on our border security bill, it would
01:36 have passed and become law.
01:38 Well, three months later, we're not walking away from trying to resolve the problems at
01:42 the border.
01:44 We hope Republicans will change course and join us.
01:48 Instead of just making a lot of speeches, pointing a lot of fingers, blame, blame, blame,
01:52 let's get something done.
01:56 It's right within our grasp.
01:58 A bipartisan bill that when was shown to many Republicans, they said, wow.
02:02 It wasn't until Donald Trump said, I want the border to remain in chaos so I could win
02:07 reelection or win election that Republicans backed off.
02:12 Well, shame.
02:13 That's not what the American people want.
02:16 And we're going to make sure they know it.
