00:00Everton Football Club has withdrawn its appeal of the decision by a Premier League
00:05independent commission to impose a two-point deduction on the club for a
00:08breach of the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules
00:12for the accounting period ending in June 2023. A hearing scheduled for later this
00:17month will now not proceed and the club will conclude the Premier League season
00:21with the two-point deduction remaining in place. The appeal was set to take
00:25place next week with a verdict announced before the final game of the season at
00:29Arsenal on the 19th of May. The Toffees were hit with the punishment following a
00:33three-day hearing in March. It deemed Everton overspent by £16.6 million.
00:38Clubs are allowed to record losses of £105 million over a
00:43three-year period. This was the second point deduction the Toffees faced this
00:47season. They had a ten-point deduction reduced to six on appeal in February
00:52under the same profitability and sustainability rules in the three-year
00:56period to 2021-22.
