Coach Dabba - Darin Killpartrick - gives his verdict on Chichester City's Isthmian League promotion
Transcript
00:00 So, joined by Darren Kilpatrick. How do you put that into words?
00:04 You just, this team just keep on surprising people. Do they keep on surprising you?
00:09 Yeah, absolutely.
00:11 A kiss from the captain?
00:12 Absolutely.
00:13 And at the start of the season, if somebody said to you, you're going to get promoted to step three,
00:19 was promotion in your mind at all at the start of the season?
00:23 No, Jack always taught me that there's like a hierarchy of what you've got to try and achieve.
00:30 One, stay in the league. That's the standard. People underestimate this standard.
00:34 It's a great standard. It's a great standard.
00:36 And you first put a call to survival. You have to set your team up to survive.
00:41 Then, you see how far up you can come up the table.
00:43 And then you start thinking about playoffs. And then you start thinking about winning the league.
00:47 But that's the hierarchy of the order.
00:49 So, I must admit, I think 12 weeks ago, I turned around to Miles and Dan and Gia and I said, forget the playoffs.
00:57 I said that personally, forget the playoffs.
00:59 And they did look at me a little bit like, the run that this lot went on, I've never seen anything like it. Never.
01:06 Relentless, wasn't it?
01:07 Yeah, absolutely. And what Jamie's done here at Three Bridges, the run that they went on was absolutely incredible as well.
01:15 And it set up an absolutely brilliant final for Sussex.
01:19 What's gone on around Sussex, you've got Worthing, you've got Arsenal.
01:23 At all levels, isn't it?
01:24 All these teams in and around the playoffs. And it's incredible.
01:29 And that goes out to all the coaching that's going on around Sussex.
01:32 Forget the results tonight. I'm looking long term for the future, what's going on in Sussex for the younger players coming through.
01:40 And I care a lot about that and everyone knows me that I do care about that.
01:44 I just think it's brilliant for Sussex.
01:48 And for these boys now, they can have a break, but you'll soon be thinking, coming back and you've got a new challenge ahead of you now.
01:56 Step three.
01:57 Listen, what we've done.
01:58 Miles said to me the other day, tie in in many ways for a step five.
02:02 You're now two levels above that, step three.
02:05 A lot of hard work, but you'll tackle it head on, won't you?
02:08 We'll have to.
02:10 We're going to have to.
02:12 It's going to be a bit of a momentum game.
02:14 I know what's coming. It's going to be difficult. It's going to be hard. It's going to be extremely hard.
02:20 So I know what's coming. So we'll have to get that all ready.
02:25 We'll enjoy the moment now. Enjoy this time.
02:28 Because these moments don't come along a lot in your careers.
02:33 So we'll enjoy this.
02:36 I'm pleased with the turnout tonight. Brilliant. Brilliant.
02:40 I'd like to dedicate that game to obviously G, my late mother.
02:44 My dad was always around us.
02:46 And a couple of friends that we've lost on the journeys.
02:49 I'd like to dedicate this game to all of them.
02:51 G was a massive inspiration to us all.
02:55 How brave the man was is beyond words.
02:58 Absolutely beyond words.
03:00 So that one was for you, Gia.
03:02 And I have to say, in all the years I've been involved in London football,
03:08 I've never met a bunch of lads like this in my life.
03:11 Ever. Ever.
03:13 If my son turns out to be like these players, I'll be a happy father.
03:18 Congratulations. It's not the first time I've interviewed you after a playoff win.
03:22 You did a bogger a couple of times, but this one is a remarkable one. Congratulations.
03:26 Thank you, Steve.
03:27 I'd also just like to say thanks to Freedbridge's. They were fantastic and very gracious at the end.
03:33 It's very hard. When play-offs are hard, you come through all that way.
03:37 But Jamie and his team should be so proud of what they've done here.
03:41 They just need to be strong again next season and they probably will be.
03:43 They should be so, so proud. So proud.
03:46 We've got a lot of teams in our league that are big hitters.
03:50 And what they've done here is incredible and a great job.
03:54 And I think everyone should be proud in this whole ground tonight. Everyone.
03:59 I can see your dad waiting to speak to you, so I'm going to let him do it.
04:02 He can even come into the shop.
04:04 There we go. That's nice.
04:05 I think he's going to give me my birthday card.
04:07 It's a bit late, isn't it?
04:08 Oh, it's not my birthday card.
04:10 Oh, it's for my birthday.
04:12 Well done.
04:13 It's nice.
