00:00 talked about the main takeaways from Jets Media Day today with Elijah Barrett Tucker,
00:05 but he was not the only one that spoke.
00:07 C.J. Mosley, Quincy Williams both spoke today.
00:10 And C.J. Mosley, the one thing that I will say and I will point out, he mentioned
00:15 and he discussed the ramifications of him getting a restructured contract,
00:21 signed a new two-year deal, significantly less of a cap it,
00:26 saved the Jets I think around $9 to $12 million.
00:29 And when we talk about C.J. Mosley, and I will be completely objective here,
00:36 when we talk about C.J. Mosley, I have legitimate concerns going into the 2024 season.
00:43 Not that he's a bad player, not that he's a bad leader, because he is none of those things.
00:49 He's a very good linebacker and an excellent leader.
00:52 But he is going to be 32 years old.
00:56 Thirty-two years old for an inside linebacker who showed signs of struggles late in the year.
01:06 I mean, we remember the Cleveland Browns game, and yes, he forced a fumble,
01:10 and it was a very good play there.
01:11 But the one constant that we saw from that game was that C.J. Mosley was getting picked apart.
01:19 Picked apart.
01:21 Doesn't matter if it was David Njoku, any other tight end,
01:25 Joe Flacco was tearing the Jets' defense to shreds.
01:29 A top-five defense to shreds.
01:31 And a lot of it was because they got Mosley against the pass,
01:38 and Mosley could not handle the speed of the tight ends and running backs.
01:42 That's a legitimate concern, because quite frankly, he's not getting any younger.
01:51 He's not getting any younger.
01:54 And again, I'm not saying that he's a bad player.
01:58 I'm not even saying he's going to have a bad year.
02:00 But this defense relies on its linebackers to be fast, agile,
02:06 and reading the offensive line as quick as possible.
02:09 As long as Mosley can continue to read at a high level,
02:13 he is going to be highly effective in this defense.
02:17 But I think it's also fair to understand, and at least to point out,
02:21 that there are not a lot of good 32-year-old linebackers
02:24 who can consistently do that at a high level for a full 17-game season.
