00:02 - So, you know, Pat Evans is usually our predictor
00:07 here on the show, Matt, but I guess I'm gonna put you
00:09 on the spot today 'cause you are here.
00:11 New Jersey looks like they're the next state
00:13 that are trying to ban these props on college athletes.
00:17 And we have college football season,
00:19 which is closing in now, believe it or not.
00:21 I mean, we're almost at the summer
00:22 and then by the time August comes,
00:24 people will have that opportunity again.
00:25 I guess I would ask you,
00:26 do you think that this is just going away?
00:28 Do you think that we've seen the last of being able
00:31 to bet on college player props?
00:34 And I would suppose, I think football would be next up
00:37 to see if that ends up happening.
00:39 - Yeah, you know what, Craig?
00:42 Early in this process, I would have said, I'm not sure.
00:45 I wouldn't have been able to give you an answer
00:47 on which way this was gonna go.
00:49 But now I really do think that more states
00:52 are going to come away with just banning this
00:55 and taking it out of the options.
00:58 And I think a lot of it has to do
01:00 with the way that Ohio approached it.
01:02 Ohio released stats showing that like 1.35%
01:07 of their total billions of dollars of business
01:10 that they did last year had to do
01:12 with these college player props.
01:14 So it's a very small piece of the pie.
01:16 And I think once other regulators and legislatures
01:20 are able to see that and say, oh, that's a small number,
01:24 this is gonna make the NCAA happy,
01:26 we can play ball here.
01:27 And that's exactly what's happening in New Jersey, Craig.
01:31 If you look at what the Senator told us,
01:35 all she did was hear that Charlie Baker
01:38 wanted this nationwide ban.
01:40 They haven't even talked to the NCAA yet.
01:42 She simply just saw that Charlie Baker was calling for this
01:48 and saying that it was a good thing for colleges
01:50 and then introduced the bill.
01:52 And so I think, yeah, I think if we're gonna get
01:55 a lot of knee jerk reaction like that,
01:58 certainly this is gonna be something
02:00 we're talking about for a while.
02:01 And then like I said, I think the way that Ohio handled it,
02:04 they're showing that, look, it's not gonna be a huge hit
02:08 to the bottom line here.
02:10 So it's college rules and betting, Craig.
02:14 There's always something going on with it.
02:16 Connecticut right now, you're only allowed to bet on UConn
02:19 in Connecticut if it's to win an NCAA tournament.
02:23 So you couldn't go in and bet on UConn
02:24 to win each game in the tournament.
02:27 You can only bet on them to say,
02:28 they're gonna win the tournament.
02:31 But Connecticut legislators are trying to undo that.
02:36 So some states are trying to take away college betting.
02:38 Some states are trying to add more college betting.
02:41 One of those things where everybody
02:46 is just gonna have different rules for a long time.
02:48 And we go back to talking about the NBA
02:50 and Adam Silver said, this happening just shows
02:54 how much we need federal regulation.
02:57 And when it comes to these little issues like this
02:58 that you see every state start to pick up,
03:01 it's hard to argue with them there.
03:02 But obviously operators want nothing to do
03:04 with federal regulation.
