00:00 Carol King, why is this campaign so important to you?
00:03 My partner Richard Jordan was killed in a road traffic collision in 2019 and that is
00:09 the reason. He is the reason along with our two daughters who have been left without their
00:16 dad and also other families that have come forward to the government for changes relating
00:24 to road traffic incidents on our roads. The call for evidence was something that we were
00:30 promised back in 2021 now. We're now in 2024. Without this we can't move forward with the
00:37 changes that are needed surrounding road traffic incidents and it is disappointing that we're
00:45 still at this point and we haven't got that information back yet. So yeah, that is the
00:52 reason and that's why we need to get this back. The government needs to act so we can
01:00 push forward and get these changes made.
01:04 Bridget Philipson is Carol King's MP. She's been involved in this campaign. What stage
01:08 are we at?
01:09 Well, I've been supporting Carol for some years now and that involves going to London
01:13 to meet with the then Minister and pushing the government around bringing forward this
01:16 call for evidence. Sadly, the most recent letter I've had from the new Minister says
01:21 that we can give no timescale around any of this, no timescale on the call for evidence
01:25 and until we get that we can't make any progress around changes in the law. So I'm deeply disappointed
01:31 that we're not making more progress and victims and their families I think want to see urgent
01:36 action when it comes to these serious incidents.
