00:02 The boycotts need to stop.
00:04 This is what present and former employees of Starbucks and McDonald's in Malaysia are calling for
00:10 as their livelihoods have been severely impacted by it.
00:13 FFT spoke to three people, all of whom were provided with pseudonyms,
00:17 as they did not wish to reveal their identities.
00:20 University student Erika lost her part-time job at Starbucks due to plummeting sales at her outlet.
00:26 She said the sudden loss of income was not only difficult for her,
00:30 but for other employees that were let off as they were left with no job or money.
00:35 To make ends meet, Erika is now forced to attend all of her classes online while working full-time at another job.
00:42 Sarah, a Starbucks employee, said, though she believes the company has no ties with Israel through its repeated statements,
00:49 she no longer actively promotes Starbucks products to her friends to avoid backlash.
00:54 Meanwhile, Farha, who has worked at a McDonald's outlet for close to four years now,
00:59 said it upsets her to see people being let go due to declining sales.
01:03 She said in most outlets, including her own, around 95% of the workers are Muslims,
01:09 highlighting that the boycott has inevitably caused hardship for fellow Muslims in Malaysia.
