00:00 On this edition of the Weekend Drive, we're featuring the Nissan Z.
00:05 And not just any Z, this is the Nissan Motorsports, or Nismo, edition.
00:10 Now Nissan already offers the Z in a Sport and Performance model, but for 2024, they've
00:15 launched the Nismo edition for those who want a little more.
00:19 Nissan's Z models have a long and successful history, often synonymous with style, performance,
00:25 and affordability.
00:26 It started in 1969 with the Datsun 240Z and the Fairlady Z from Japan, followed by the
00:32 likes of the 280Z, 300, 350, and 370Z models that came over the next 50 years.
00:38 So the new Nismo edition has a lot to live up to.
00:42 It does so by elevating the previous Performance model with additional horsepower and torque,
00:47 specially tuned suspension and brakes, revised aerodynamic bodywork in front and rear, including
00:53 a taller and wider rear spoiler, and wider wheels with a more aggressive tire compound.
01:00 So what does all that mean?
01:01 It means this car is fast and truly sticks to the pavement or the racetrack.
01:05 The Z Nismo's interior is also built for speed.
01:09 It isn't fancy on purpose.
01:11 Nissan says it's built to keep the driver's eyes on the road and communicate only the
01:15 most important information to eliminate visual noise.
01:18 However, it does have modern conveniences like two digital display screens, wireless
01:23 Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa built in.
01:27 And the Recaro seats and a new steering wheel are finished in leather and Alcantara trim,
01:32 which just feel nice.
01:34 So this car features a 3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine which has 420 horsepower and 384
01:42 foot-pounds of torque.
01:43 Now what's cool is that peak torque is available from 2,000 RPM all the way up to 5,200 RPM,
01:48 which means that the car always has a lot of pulling power.
01:52 Some driving enthusiasts don't like that the Nismo version doesn't come with a manual
01:55 transmission, but this 9-speed automatic has been optimized and has extremely quick shifts
02:01 and is ready for track use.
02:03 It also comes with launch control if you want that super aggressive standing start acceleration.
02:09 Now the Nismo Edition provides three different drive modes, Standard, Sport and Sport Plus.
02:15 When you're in Standard or Sport mode, you could live with this car as an everyday driver.
02:18 When you go to Sport Plus though, it's track ready.
02:22 The Nissan Z Nismo is definitely a track ready sports car.
02:26 However, it comes standard with a number of driver assistance technologies like adaptive
02:30 cruise control, lane departure warning, auto emergency braking and more.
02:34 Now the standard Z starts around $42,000 while this Nismo Edition comes in at $65,000, which
02:40 is comparable to a Chevy Corvette, Toyota Supra or BMW M2.
02:45 So if you're in the market for a track ready sports car, the Nissan Z Nismo is definitely
02:50 worth a closer look.
