00:00Hey guys, Candice Appleby here, stand-up paddle world champion, coach, and founder of Ocean Academy.
00:07Today I'm going to give you some beginner tips for stand-up paddleboarding.
00:10First, it's important to have the right size board. You want something wide enough so that you will be stable.
00:15You also want to have a paddle that is the right length. About five inches over your head is good.
00:20It's important to have a leash in case you become detached from your board, as well as a personal flotation device.
00:26If you're going out for a long time on the water, it's good to have a water pack to keep you hydrated.
00:31Before you get on the water, you want to make sure you check the conditions for boat wake, wind, and anything that will help you to be safe.
00:39Once you're out on the water, it's important to keep your eyes up. Wherever you look is where you're going to go.
00:44If you look down, you're going to go down. And one of my favorite tips is bracing.
00:49Bracing will help you combat boat wake, wind, waves, and chop, and it will allow you to move around on your board and have more fun.
00:58You can also do awesome tricks if you brace.
01:07Make sure you have the right equipment, you check the conditions, you keep your eyes up, and brace.
01:14Get out there and have some fun.
