00:05 Hello and welcome to another edition of 5 Things to Do, and before we get going I have a question.
00:10 Did you survive Blue Monday? Well if you listened to me prattle on I assume that you did,
00:14 not least because some of the excellent suggestions featured in this fine broadcast.
00:18 So let's keep the momentum up and find 5 more for next week.
00:23 We start at the Borough Pub and Restaurant in Lancaster where you can have potentially the most chaotic meal of your life.
00:28 Direct from London's West End, the Fawlty Towers dining experience is celebrating its 25th anniversary
00:34 as the world's most sought after tribute to the BBC sitcom.
00:38 It's an unmissable, highly interactive comedy spectacular where audiences enjoy a three course meal alongside 5 star comedy.
00:46 When the audience become diners in the Fawlty Towers restaurant pretty much anything can happen
00:51 because 70% of the show is improvised.
00:54 Expect the unexpected it says, which sounds terrifying.
00:58 The season starts on Tuesday 23rd January and there are 5 shows to choose from up to the 25th
01:03 and tickets are £45 or £35 for the Wednesday matinee.
01:08 Mayhem.
01:11 Down the coast a bit next to Blackpool for two very differing musical events, the Winter Gardens and Opera House.
01:16 The first is Calendar Girls the musical.
01:19 Yes, the girls are back with even more laughter, more joy, more songs and bigger iced buns.
01:24 The story of the Calendar Girls launched a global phenomenon.
01:27 A million copycat calendars, a record breaking movie, a stage play and now a musical written by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth.
01:34 With unforgettable songs each performance continues to add to the millions already raised for Blood Cancer UK
01:39 and prove there's no such thing as an ordinary woman.
01:43 The show starts on Tuesday 23rd and runs through to Saturday 27th and tickets are priced from £23.
01:50 Now, the other music event I mentioned is Rock the Gardens.
01:53 I did say it would be different, didn't I?
01:55 Banishing away any January blues and probably any hearing you have left
01:58 the Rock the Gardens Festival will be taking over the Winter Gardens from the 26th to the 27th of January.
02:03 The two days of the finest rock and metal tribute bands that Europe has to offer
02:07 the Mammoth Indoor Festival will be kicking off the year in a true show of rock.
02:12 Two day tickets for that one are £34.50 and you can also get a single day ticket if you're short of rock time.
02:18 More live music next, this time in Blackburn where the King George's Hall are hosting a Night of Soul on Saturday 27th.
02:25 An annual return for the ever popular Soul Night featuring two rooms of music,
02:29 Northern in the Concert Hall and Classic and Modern in the Winter Suite.
02:33 Tickets for that one are an entirely reasonable £13.
02:37 Lastly, if you've just managed to get over your New Year celebrations, you can head up to Lancaster and do it all again.
02:42 Chinese style, because the city is marking the Chinese New Year of the Dragon in some considerable style.
02:47 Not least with 600 lancerns here, there and everywhere, but the Grand Theatre will also host a cultural variety show
02:54 highlighting China's rich artistic heritage and featuring nationally known performers
02:59 who will bring Chinese traditions to life through music, dance and theatre.
03:03 For the first time in the North, Manchester's Chinese Academy of Dance will join forces with musicians from
03:08 Liverpool's Pagoda Arts to perform traditional Chinese folk music.
03:12 The family friendly Chinese New Year Festival will also take to the streets with stalls and free workshops.
03:18 There are events from the 27th of January and most are free, but there are some ticketed events
03:23 so their website might be the best place to start organising your trip.
03:27 Blimey, it's all going on. Join me next week for another 5 Things To Do
03:31 We'll be looking at February for the first time, and soon be Spring.
03:34 But in the meantime, have a fabulous week, take care and I'll see you next time.
