Gladiators Giant and Steel visited Sheffield Station ahead of the launch of the brand new BBC gameshow this Saturday.

We asked them what they thought of Sheffield after their three week filming here, what a Gladiator has for breakfast and Giant accidentally reveals Steel's "kryptonite".
Transcript
00:00 So I am Giant as you just said, the gladiator, but behind Giant is a young 38 year old man
00:08 called Jamie Christian from Derby.
00:11 I was a very very avid fan of the show previously when it was on ITV and I was a fan of the
00:18 show before when I was 7 years old till 15 and that really inspired me to get into training
00:23 and bodybuilding and I hope I can do the same for the younger generation watching it now.
00:28 So I am Steel, the Mr Nice Guy, but very good at the games.
00:33 Real name is Zach George, age 33, I've been a professional CrossFit athlete for 10 years
00:38 and I was Britain's Fittest Man in 2020.
00:41 I would describe Sheffield as, oh my god this has just come to my head, Sheffield's got
00:46 to be one of the hilliest cities in the world.
00:51 Don't go for a walk in Sheffield unless you want a workout, that's what I would say.
00:56 Over and above that, I think I noticed it's a city that looks like it's developing in
01:03 terms of it's got some older areas and they look like they're putting a lot of money into
01:07 making the area a lot nicer.
01:08 So the modern architecture that I see and the city centre, it looks like it's having
01:12 a lot of money spent on it.
01:13 It looks like in I would say 5 years time it's going to be a very very nice place to
01:17 visit.
01:18 It still is a nice place to visit but it's going to be even nicer.
01:21 So obviously we touched on me being from Derby and I've visited Sheffield before, been to
01:26 the Meadowhall many times for a bit of shopping, you can't beat that.
01:30 And the Gladiators did come for the odd outing in Meadowhall so that was good.
01:33 But what we did find around where we were staying during the filming of the show, there
01:38 was a nice pizza place across the road called Rudy's, so that got hammered to be fair.
01:44 And then Roxy's Ballroom, I like a game of pool and that was some good downtime away
01:48 from the filming but yeah, Sheffield, great city.
01:52 So then Steel, so you had, as we've already mentioned between us, but 3 weeks to kind
01:58 of see the sights, get around Sheffield while Gladiators was being filmed in the arena here.
02:02 Tell us a bit about how you found the city, what was it like, you spent so much time here.
02:07 Absolutely loved it.
02:08 So first of all the crowd in the arena was absolutely insane, that was one point.
02:12 And it was just a great city to be in.
02:15 Obviously minding I am Steel and this is the City of Steel so I had a lot of support that
02:19 way as well.
02:20 But it was long days filming, 12 hours so we didn't get a lot of free time to go to
02:26 lots of places but we were eating out in great restaurants, went to a few different places
02:30 where they could play bowling and pool and things like that.
02:32 So just a really great friendly city.
02:35 So obviously we've all got individual strengths.
02:38 My strength is my size, my stature and that requires a lot of training.
02:42 So I would train probably 3 hours a day, 5 days a week.
02:45 It does require obviously rest to just make sure you can keep going and battle injuries
02:50 and recover.
02:51 But I'll tell you what people don't consider when you're trying to maintain a large amount
02:55 of size and muscle.
02:56 It takes a lot of eating as well.
02:58 So I might be eating for twice the amount of time I'm training.
03:01 So if I'm training for 3 hours a day I'll be eating for 6.
03:05 That's what I would say about me.
03:06 Breakfast is big, as you can imagine.
03:07 I just have to keep my breakfast away from Steel.
03:13 Steel's a load of nuts.
03:14 I don't know if I'm allowed to tell you that but that's his kryptonite.
03:19 Anyway, my bowl of oats in the morning is from a salad bowl.
03:23 So the salad bowl is probably as big as my head and it's full to the brim with oats,
03:29 blueberries, whey protein, nut butter, banana.
03:33 There's probably 2000 calories in that bowl of oats in the morning.
03:36 I eat a lot of porridge oats in the morning.
03:39 So I normally have a huge bowl that I probably feed for 3 people.
03:43 My friends are very used to me having a huge bowl of porridge.
03:46 And then alongside that I'll have a bacon as well.
03:50 So probably a breakfast that I normally feed 5 people.
