00:00 Hey, I'm Lakeith Stanfield and these are my essentials.
00:04 (upbeat music)
00:06 Yeah, sunglasses.
00:16 You never know when you might need them.
00:19 You gotta protect those twinkly-winklies.
00:21 Usually I have darker ones where you can't really tell
00:23 who I'm looking at and it's fun to just look at people
00:25 and they don't know.
00:26 But they're also one of those things that sort of act
00:28 as a tool of protection when I'm out in public sometimes.
00:31 If I have these on, people know that I'm not giving them
00:34 eye contact because sometimes when you give eye contact,
00:36 it invites someone.
00:37 It's not that I don't like people,
00:39 it's just that sometimes you wanna zone.
00:42 So these help do that.
00:43 And also, they just look cool.
00:45 Right, maybe I'm not selling it.
00:48 They're both utilitarian and just cool.
00:52 (upbeat music)
00:56 Pow.
00:56 Headphones, particularly AirPods.
00:59 They block out sound, they're good for the airplane.
01:01 I'm constantly listening to instrumentals,
01:03 listening to music.
01:04 When I'm reading scripts, reading different things,
01:06 I'm always playing some sort of music instrument.
01:08 They're good to kind of be in your own zone
01:10 and kind of block out the world and just zone in.
01:13 I like a lot of electronic music.
01:15 I like a lot of dancehall, dub, stuff that feels
01:18 like it's in rhythm with the heartbeat.
01:20 I often lose my AirPods, which is a little bit of a shame
01:23 to lose my AirPods, which is why I have this.
01:26 A little handy lanyard.
01:28 It's color-coded too, because I often lose them.
01:30 And they all look the same, they're just white.
01:33 So, mine's green.
01:35 So, if you ever see a green one, it's mine.
01:37 (upbeat music)
01:40 Yes.
01:44 Hard drive.
01:45 I take a lot of photos.
01:46 You can keep your photos on them wherever you are.
01:48 You can upload them to whatever system you're near,
01:51 edit them.
01:52 Also keep music in a hard drive.
01:53 I'm constantly making music on the go.
01:55 Hard drives, does a body good.
01:57 I like a hard drive that's durable.
01:59 When you're on the go, you know, you're moving around,
02:01 you might drop it sometimes.
02:03 You don't want it to be too, like, destructible.
02:05 So, you wanna have a hard one, a hard body one.
02:07 I also like them to be quite small,
02:09 'cause when you're traveling with other things,
02:11 I probably have now about five hard drives.
02:13 One for photos, one for music, another one for music,
02:18 another one for music, and another one for, like,
02:20 stems and sessions of music.
02:23 I've always got a hard drive nearby.
02:24 They're never far out of reach.
02:26 I love taking photos.
02:33 It's just super fun to capture moments
02:35 that you'll never have again, you'll never see again.
02:38 There's something real beautiful about that.
02:40 I really enjoy these cameras.
02:41 It's a really, like, well-built camera.
02:44 And right now I have a really wide lens on it,
02:46 'cause I typically like to get, like,
02:48 close portraits with bokeh in the back.
02:50 It's kind of fun.
02:51 But I wanted to get some, like, wide portraits
02:53 to kind of mix it up a little bit.
02:54 I'm sort of chronicling the press run,
02:56 so I like to get, like, wide things.
02:58 I'm gonna chronicle this right now, actually.
03:01 What a beautiful bunch.
03:02 Oh my God.
03:03 I did this film called "The Photograph."
03:05 My character, he took photos,
03:08 so I figured I'd just pick up the camera
03:10 to try to learn it.
03:11 And when I started taking the photos,
03:13 I was like, wow, this is, like, really, really beautiful.
03:16 It's something you can, like, just do by yourself
03:18 and kind of just, like, be in the zone of it.
03:20 You look at the world differently.
03:21 You're kind of just more sensitive to everything,
03:23 and you kind of appreciate things more.
03:25 It became something that I felt was like
03:27 I could continue doing this,
03:29 so I've just been doing it ever since.
03:31 [upbeat music]
03:33 Yes, liquid IVs.
03:39 Stay hydrated, my friends.
03:41 It's important.
03:42 Well, like it says, it multiplies the hydration.
03:44 You know, you pour it in the water.
03:46 You feel so hydrated.
03:48 It's important.
03:49 You know, when you're using your mind a lot,
03:51 when you're performing,
03:52 when you're trying to understand and comprehend text,
03:55 having a liquid mind is better than an ashy one.
03:57 So I try to get some lubrication in there.
04:01 Try to stay hydrated.
04:02 Take this out, pour it in the water,
04:05 shake it up, and you are hydrated.
04:08 It has, like, a little, like, lemon kind of vibe to it,
04:10 but it's really, it makes your drink a little bit thicker
04:14 and just a little bit more interesting
04:16 with a little tinge of lemon,
04:17 which makes it easier to do all day.
04:19 You know, you got that little flavor in there.
04:21 So yeah, it's good.
04:22 [upbeat music]
04:25 And here's the water with the liquid IV in it, by the way.
04:35 I always keep a big water bottle near me.
04:37 Always good to have water,
04:38 because again, it's good to be hydrated.
04:40 I pour the little IV in here,
04:42 mix it all nice and foggy.
04:43 Sometimes it's fun to do that.
04:45 And yeah, it does the body good.
04:47 Are you ready for this ASMR?
04:51 Ah, water with the liquid IV.
04:59 Yes.
05:01 [upbeat music]
05:05 Yes, mangoes.
05:11 I just love mangoes.
05:12 Dried mangoes are really good.
05:13 They're easy and taste good.
05:15 Sometimes I put a little chili on them things.
05:17 They're kind of filling, surprisingly.
05:19 They fill you up.
05:20 Always got to have some mangoes with me.
05:21 You never know.
05:23 I think this is like the perfect balance of sweet
05:25 and these ones are pretty fire.
05:27 They're dry, but they're not like,
05:29 parts your throat dry.
05:30 No matter where you go, everyone will join mango.
05:32 I mean, if you don't like mangoes,
05:34 I kind of question you as a person.
05:36 I question your morality.
05:38 [upbeat music]
05:42 [beep]
05:44 Hot sauce is God.
05:47 You can put it on anything
05:48 and it makes everything taste great.
05:50 Spicy is amazing.
05:51 I love spicy food,
05:53 which is why I put chili on my mangoes.
05:54 And hot sauce, you got to always have it with you
05:56 because you never know when a meal might surface.
05:59 And it's definitely going to need hot sauce.
06:01 So you put some hot sauce on it and you enjoy.
06:04 I've kind of went all the way up to habanero so far.
06:08 And that is typically where I like to stay.
06:10 That's my happy place.
06:12 But I'm interested in exploring hotter options
06:16 if they're available.
06:17 So yeah, let's do it.
06:18 Let's go.
06:19 I like some spice, especially on popcorn.
06:20 Travel with hot sauce all the time.
06:22 It's always in my backpack.
06:23 It's always on set.
06:25 You know, sometimes on set food can be great.
06:27 Sometimes it can be like,
06:28 all I want to taste is the hot sauce.
06:30 [upbeat music]
06:32 My little ring.
06:37 And this is my ring that pays homage to natives.
06:41 I really love it because I really like history
06:44 and like American history.
06:45 And the natives have historically just like
06:48 been really in tune with nature
06:50 and have appreciated nature.
06:52 And I love that.
06:53 And this chieftain, you know, reminds me of that.
06:55 And just reminds me of like the beauty
06:58 of being like grounded.
06:59 It was something that I was like really inspired by.
07:01 I was in New Mexico.
07:03 You know, I love the way the houses
07:04 and the buildings are built.
07:06 They're out of mud.
07:07 And so I inquired about that at this museum once
07:09 and they were, you know, telling me more about it.
07:11 And I saw this like Native American,
07:13 just like ring, this head of this ring.
07:15 It didn't have diamonds in it,
07:16 but I was like, yeah, let's add some diamonds.
07:20 So I went to Icebox and then they gave me
07:23 this nice little iced out one.
07:25 Where did you come from?
07:28 [upbeat music]
07:31 Beanie.
07:31 Yeah, I love beanies.
07:33 I usually like beanies that are more like skullies.
07:36 So like they're closer to the skull.
07:37 I typically don't like a lot of like flop in the beanie.
07:40 Like I don't really like that.
07:41 Like if I can do this, it's just, it's not good.
07:44 It's gotta be pulled down to a point
07:46 where there's very little left to the imagination at the top.
07:50 You know, I never want to get just like pulled by the beanie.
07:52 You gotta, you know, you gotta be careful.
07:55 I can get snagged on things.
07:56 So try to keep it kind of close to the skull.
07:59 Keep your head nice and warm.
08:01 It's soft.
08:02 They're easy.
08:03 A companion that I always want to have with me.
08:05 Something soft, something nice pops right on the head.
08:09 Love a good beanie.
08:10 I'll wear it in the summer.
08:11 I'll wear it whenever.
08:12 All right, that's it.
08:15 Thanks for checking out my essentials
08:17 and I'll see you next time.
08:19 Don't wait around for this or wait.
08:23 Ah, it was worth the wait.
08:29 (whooshing)
