00:00 Some police and soldiers illegally fired guns during the New Year celebration.
00:06 Patrick De Jesus filed a case in detail.
00:10 A security guard in Baisak-e-Sun City was arrested for not being able to fire his gun during the New Year celebration.
00:20 The 44-year-old was complained to the suspect by concerned citizens
00:24 where he was allegedly drunk when the police arrested him. The 38-caliber gun with four bullets was obtained from the security guard.
00:32 He was charged with indiscriminate discharge of firearms and violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
00:40 This is the only case in 20 incidents of illegal discharge of firearms reported by the PNP until the New Year celebration.
00:48 Seven people were injured in the incidents. Three of the suspects were police, two soldiers, a barangay officer and 12 civilians.
00:58 Meanwhile, 12 individuals were injured in the 13 incidents of illegal discharge of firearms.
01:04 The victims were in stable condition and most of them were discharged from the hospital.
01:09 One of the victims there is our police. He was in Occidental, Mindoro where our police was.
01:18 While they were in front of their station and watching the fireworks, he felt that his forearm was hit and he saw that it was bleeding.
01:27 So immediately, they brought him. Basically, almost all cases of stray bullets are like this sir.
01:34 Some were watching the fireworks and they felt that they were hit.
01:40 While others were inside, they went inside their buildings and were hit.
01:45 The case of these suspects is still being investigated.
01:49 We have to admit, it is very challenging to solve this case because first of all, you have to look at the area where there are firearms and weapons.
02:01 If there is a recovered gun, it will be passed through ballistic examination and cross-matching in the hope that if this gun is registered,
02:11 we can see it in the database of the Firearms and Explosives Office.
02:15 When it comes to illegal fireworks, PNP said that it has been a crackdown for them.
02:21 Their confiscated number has doubled.
02:24 If we compare it to last year, 2022, where we confiscated more or less 2.5 million worth of illegal firecrackers,
02:33 this year we have reached 4 million.
02:36 We can see that PNP did not lack in enforcement, although there will always be room for improvement.
02:44 In the last report of the DOH, the number of fireworks-related injuries reached 443 after more than 200 new cases were reported.
02:53 Patrick De Azuz for the Morning Show of the Philippine City, Rise and Shine, Philippines.
