00:00 The Texas Longhorns basketball team got a preview of what life in the SEC might be like
00:06 as they defeated the LSU Tigers 96-85 Saturday in Houston.
00:11 The 19th ranked Longhorns had big scoring efforts all around and held off the Tigers'
00:16 second half rally to reach a new season high team scoring mark.
00:20 Max A. Smith led the Longhorns with 20 points on four made triples to go along with six
00:25 rebounds and seven assists while Tyrese Hunter had 19 points of his own.
00:31 Texas forward Dylan DeSue made his season debut back from an injury coming off the bench
00:36 to post 17 points, four rebounds and five assists.
00:40 Dylan Mitchell had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
00:44 DeSue commented on finally being back saying quote "It felt great just to be able to play
00:49 basketball again.
00:50 It's been a long time, almost six to seven months.
00:53 Just being out there was great."
00:55 LSU got a game-high 33 points from transfer guard Jordan Wright who helped lead the Tigers
01:01 back in the second half after trailing by as many as 22 points in the first half.
01:07 It was a quick start for Texas as they led 15-5 behind a trio of threes from Hunter,
01:12 Cunningham and A. Smith.
01:15 After a dominant start on both ends of the ball, Texas went into halftime with a convincing
01:20 56-37 lead.
01:23 But despite being in control for all of the first and most of the second half, the Longhorns
01:28 got sluggish and LSU took full advantage.
01:31 The Tigers used a 19-7 run to cut the lead to a single digit at 70-63.
01:37 However, the Longhorns did not fold and used late efforts from DeSue and Kendall Weaver
01:43 to help put this LSU team away.
01:46 Texas will now head back to Austin to host Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Friday at the
01:51 Moody Center.
