Kyle T. Mosley (Pelicans Scoop) discusses the recent performance of the New Orleans Pelicans with Wilton Jackson (Sports Illustrated).
Transcript
00:00 I think right now that Pelicans team learned something at that particular time.
00:05 And I think Zion learned something as well.
00:08 What's your thoughts?
00:09 >> Absolutely, Kyle.
00:10 It was definitely a learning lesson.
00:12 And I think most people thought that this was gonna be the Pelicans team
00:17 that they saw coming into the team that they saw during the in season
00:22 tournament games previously prior to that semi final game.
00:26 And so it was a learning lesson for them and more so than anything,
00:29 how many times have we heard Zion specifically in offseason say that he
00:33 wanted to be better, he wanted to be able to train himself like some of the greats
00:36 like the LeBron James and someone who is again, almost 39 years old,
00:41 still defeating father time and does not seem that is coming anytime soon.
00:46 >> I need to know what he's doing.
00:47 >> Me too, because when I get to be 38 and 39 years old,
00:50 I wanna be just as good as this guy.
00:52 Maybe not on basketball court, but be able to run around some kids or
00:55 something like that when I have some but- >> Well, sure,
00:58 I'm pushing 59s, I wanna know what he's doing.
01:02 >> Exactly, cuz the guy, I mean, what he's doing is unheard of.
01:05 It's commendable, it's unheard of,
01:07 all the other words that you could use to describe it.
01:11 But more than anything, if I'm Zion, I need to take a look in the mirror and
01:14 say, if this is the player that I wanna be like, if I wanna be like the greats,
01:18 like the LeBron James, the Kobe Bryants, the Michael Jordans,
01:21 the Magic Johnsons, the list goes on.
01:23 I have to do the small things and that's what you kinda alluded to,
01:26 what Shaq was saying after the game, when he went up against Hakeem Olajuwon.
01:30 Yeah, Shaq, he even mentioned this, you average 20 points, 10 rebounds, okay,
01:35 cool, but to be great, to be dominant, you have to do the small things.
01:39 And what we do know is the small things aren't used and
01:42 they aren't built when the season starts.
01:44 Those things are built before the season starts.
01:46 Those are the things that no one sees you doing that you're willing to put in
01:50 the work to do.
01:51 And you set the example for the rest of your teammates.
01:53 And so most of us thought that this was gonna be the time, this was gonna be that
01:57 coming out party for the Pelicans to show that they could compete and
02:01 potentially beat some of the top tier contending teams in the Western Conference.
02:06 And after looking at their game, it just kinda show like, no,
02:10 they're not ready yet.
