Analyzing The New Orleans Pelicans In the First Half Of The Season.
Transcript
00:00 And now we're moving into what's gonna happen here with the Pelicans.
00:04 Well, this season has fallen by pretty fast, man.
00:08 We're talking about we're at the halfway point for most of these teams.
00:13 And we're gonna talk about a mid-season grade for
00:17 the New Orleans Pelicans as well as some other teams,
00:21 as well as some of the players as well.
00:23 We will talk a little bit about that.
00:25 But let's just kind of rehash what has been happening thus far the past week.
00:31 With the New Orleans Pelicans, they have been up and down.
00:34 And last game, it looks like when the ball was going through Zion's hands again,
00:41 the Pelicans responded with a franchise record.
00:45 They put some points up there, 150 plus points on the board.
00:51 Talk about what you saw, man.
00:54 >> Kyle, when I think about that game against an opponent like the Utah Jazz,
00:57 which a lot of people may not watch the Jazz because they're on the West Coast.
01:01 And they don't get the coverage that they probably do need.
01:04 But this is a Jazz team that for us basketball fans and who really watch it,
01:08 this is a very important Jazz team.
01:10 And the fact that they dropped 150 on them, that's just number one.
01:14 But number two, I think it's more so the fact of how they dropped 150.
01:17 You're talking about a Pelicans team that was pretty much locked and
01:20 loaded from the very start.
01:22 You talk about Zion had the ball in his hands.
01:24 At some points he was dominating, of course, obviously in the paint,
01:28 brought the ball up the court a couple times as well.
01:31 But the fact that the biggest thing outside of his points was the way that he
01:34 was able to circulate the ball to his teammates.
01:37 You talk about 11 assists, career high in assists in that game against Utah.
01:41 And the way that he was able to get them to get them going,
01:45 I can't remember the exact drawn up play.
01:47 But obviously the play that led to the iconic dunk that he had during the game.
01:51 I was like, that's what I remember seeing Zion do.
01:56 That's what fans wanna see every single game.
01:59 That type of circulation of the ball, players hitting the shot,
02:02 CJ McCollum doing his thing, Randy Ingram doing his thing.
02:05 This is what we projected to see in a Pelicans franchise that has
02:10 the playmakers to do all these things.
02:12 But as you, as me, you've talked on several times before,
02:16 can they do this consistently over a string of eight, nine, ten games or
02:20 even a two month period?
02:22 Because they have all the tools, they have everything they need.
02:24 We just saw it, we just watched it.
02:26 And like I said, Zion is gonna be the score we can get him to be or
02:30 what people expect him to be.
02:33 But it's also gonna count, it's gonna come into effect of how he's able to get
02:37 his teammates involved and how the teammates around him can play around him as well.
02:42 >> And great points.
02:44 The consistency has always been the issue with Zion as well as the health of the
02:48 team, health is not much of an issue as of the past two, three weeks.
02:55 But when you talk about Zion's ability to be able to go up for
03:01 that Dyson Daniel alley-oo with a left hand,
03:06 didn't touch, didn't touch, just one hand.
03:10 >> Yeah.
03:10 >> Soar through the air, my God.
03:13 That just shows you the potential, right?
03:16 >> And like you said, a lot of Pelican fans have been waiting to see this of
03:21 Zion Williamson since his arrival.
03:24 Just to see it on a consistent basis, that's what we need to have going forward.
