00:00 A merry mix of festive food, crafts and wintry fairground rides are on offer for visitors
00:06 to Liverpool's Christmas market.
00:08 We've actually fitted more stalls on and more attractions than we have done in previous
00:12 years. This year we've got more indoor seating. Sometimes we get a lot of bad weather in Liverpool
00:17 so we've got to adapt for that. We've put an extra teepee bar up. So we've got a teepee
00:22 bar on both sides in the gardens and on the centre of the George's Plateau. We've got
00:26 the karaoke bar, the ski bar back again where you can use the karaoke booths. We've got
00:31 the windmill bar back, that's a great addition to the market. We've got the centrepiece which
00:36 is the observation wheel which is for everybody to ride on.
00:40 Whether you're grabbing a mulled wine or hot chocolate there are certainly more than a
00:44 few bars to choose from, both indoor and out for that changeable winter weather.
00:49 Normally I walk round just plainclothes so I just listen to people as they walk round
00:53 and the majority of people are saying it's great, it's a great atmosphere.
00:59 With the cost of living crisis biting, people are mindful overspending, especially at a
01:04 time of year when every penny counts. And I'm sure we've all seen the list of the bar
01:09 prices that's been circulating.
01:12 You can actually come down and not spend anything at all if you'd like to. As in prices we've
01:16 sort of price-freezed the majority of things of what we can. 95% has stayed the same prices
01:22 as last year.
01:23 The market is once again spread in a U-shaped formation around the iconic St George's Hall
01:29 creating a rather festive atmosphere at the gateway to the city centre. You can't miss
01:34 it when walking out of Lime Street with its giant ferris wheel, vintage carousel and brightly
01:41 coloured lights.
01:42 Well I've been part of Liverpool Christmas Market for the last 15 years. Now originally
01:47 I came as a trader, I had one stall in Church Street. The opportunity came around to a tender
01:55 went out for the market and we tendered for it and we won the tender. So we've provided
02:00 the market for the last couple of years and we love it. It's part of our life now, it's
02:06 not just we come here for the six weeks and get the benefit from it, it's actually a part
02:11 of our life. Liverpool's a second home to us now. There's only one place like Liverpool
02:16 I believe. The people are very family orientated, they're up for a laugh, they're up for a good
02:22 time. It's great, the city is a great city to work in.
02:25 As well as all the food on offer, there's craft and gift traders offering jewellery,
02:30 glass blown tree ornaments, woolen wares and much, much more.
02:34 Liverpool Christmas Market is open from 11am till 10pm every day except its final day,
02:40 Christmas Eve when it will close at 5pm.
02:43 For many, coming to a Christmas market, whether it be here in Liverpool or elsewhere, has
02:49 become rather the yearly tradition. Whether you're meeting friends, grabbing some stocking
02:54 fillers or just soaking up the atmosphere, it really does signal the start of the most
02:58 wonderful time of year.
