Speaking with Business Insider, 'Mrs. Doubtfire' director Chris Columbus has revealed new details on the 1993 comedy for its 30th anniversary.He shared that two million feet of film was shot during the making of the movie because the late Robin Williams improvised so much dialogue.In the movie, Williams portrays a divorced actor who disguises himself as an elderly female housekeeper so he can continue to see his kids."He went to me, ‘Hey boss, the way I like to work, if you’re up for it, is I’ll give you three or four scripted takes, and then let’s play… he wanted to improvise. And that’s exactly how we shot every scene", shared Columbus. It came to the point where they had to shoot the movie “with four cameras to keep up with him” as they didn’t know what he’d do or say next.The director concluded that there are “roughly 927 boxes of footage” from 'Mrs. Doubtfire', all capturing Williams’ creative and comedic process.
