00:00 (speaking in foreign language)
00:03 Allow me at the outset to commence
00:07 and to applaud Her Excellency, Madam Amina Adon,
00:11 the First Lady of Turkey,
00:13 for taking this profound initiative
00:15 to convene a gathering of First Ladies
00:18 to create a much-needed forum
00:20 to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
00:24 We should all recognize, acknowledge,
00:26 and appreciate her work, dedication, and efforts
00:29 in arranging this gathering for Palestine,
00:32 united for peace in Palestine since the teens.
00:35 I am most honored and grateful to be part of this gathering.
00:40 Families broken, children left without parents,
00:46 homes lost, whole generations wiped out in an instant,
00:49 and entire people displaced.
00:51 Every day we are confronted by videos and photos
00:55 on our social media of parents holding their injured children
00:59 of exhausted doctors working in bombed-out hospitals
01:03 of homes in ruins of Gazans under siege.
01:06 Since the start of the devastating and cold-blooded campaign
01:10 against the people of Gaza,
01:12 it has been a human tragedy unfolding.
01:16 With limited access to aid
01:18 due to very restricted openings of a safe corridor,
01:21 we are currently witnessing
01:23 a catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Gaza,
01:27 what the United Nations is calling a "living nightmare."
01:31 For years, Gazans have been living in an open-air prison,
01:37 forced to endure a cruel and inhumane occupation.
01:41 According to the British Red Cross,
01:43 half of the population in Gaza is under 18 years old.
01:47 For all their lives, they have been under Israeli control,
01:51 with no free access in and out of their land,
01:55 and under constant threat of losing their homes,
01:58 and worse, their families.
02:00 This is a population that is completely traumatized,
02:04 and now they are forced to undergo an even worse ordeal.
02:08 In one month, over 10,000 Gazans have been killed,
02:11 nearly half of them children.
02:13 They have been denied and deprived
02:14 of a normal childhood and family life.
02:17 This is indeed a gross violation of basic human rights,
02:21 the right to live a normal and decent life.
02:25 UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres
02:32 has pointed out how no one is safe
02:35 from Israel's constant bombing of civilians' hospitals,
02:40 refugee camps, mosques, churches, facilities and shelters.
02:45 I am angry at this gross violation of human rights.
02:49 I am angry.
02:50 I can no longer stay silent.
02:52 I am worried. I am worried for the Gazan people,
02:55 for the safety of the children.
02:57 I am worried for our humanity.
02:59 We cannot let the bombing continue.
03:01 We must collectively call for the immediate end of hostilities.
03:07 I stand here to join the growing call for a ceasefire now.
03:11 I appeal to world leaders to pressure for an end to this madness.
