00:00 So great to speak with you.
00:01 I saw the film.
00:02 I have to say I'm obsessed.
00:03 One of my favorite of the year so far.
00:05 - Thank you.
00:06 - You're both so great in it.
00:08 Can you tell me what your favorite things are
00:10 about playing Lucy in Coriolanus?
00:12 - I mean, goodness.
00:14 I mean, I love so much about getting to play this character.
00:18 I love her attitude.
00:20 I love that she gets to sing
00:21 and she gets to use her voice in such a meaningful way.
00:24 I also really loved her costumes.
00:27 I think about that all the time.
00:28 I had so much fun in my fittings with Trish Somerville,
00:31 our costume designer.
00:33 And so it kind of felt like the final piece to her
00:37 when I was getting into character
00:38 was putting on the costumes and the wig
00:40 and then getting to get out there.
00:42 - Yeah, for me it's a character that we all think we know
00:46 from a while ago,
00:47 watching the brilliant first series of the films
00:50 and getting to just go deeper into his psychology
00:53 and rewind history a little bit
00:56 and find out why he became like that.
00:58 And to kind of,
01:00 you never forgive him for his actions in the movies,
01:02 but what you get to do with this movie
01:04 is to kind of like see his humanity before it all happens,
01:09 which is, I don't know, for me as an actor,
01:10 that's just the most exciting part
01:11 is to try and understand someone new
01:14 that I don't understand otherwise.
01:15 And he's such a complicated, dark, complex character
01:19 that it's just exciting to keep digging.
01:22 - It's definitely very interesting
01:24 to see a villain origin story.
01:25 So I really appreciated that.
01:27 Did either of you get the chance to speak
01:29 with any of the past "Hunger Games" cast,
01:31 like Jennifer or Josh or anyone?
01:34 - Yeah, everyone keeps asking me
01:36 if I've met Donald Sutherland, of course,
01:38 and which is the natural question to ask,
01:40 but I haven't.
01:42 Kind of out of design, Francis Lawrence, the director,
01:44 and I really made a point
01:46 of making this our own version of choreo
01:48 because he is so much younger
01:50 and so much hasn't happened yet to him
01:53 to make him the dictator, the character that we know.
01:57 So I haven't met Donald and I haven't met anyone else yet,
02:00 but I hope to soon.
02:01 - Yeah, I was able to meet Jennifer
02:03 at an event for Dior a couple of weeks ago.
02:08 Time is fake.
02:09 (both laughing)
02:10 But we didn't really connect before then,
02:13 and so my performance was already kind of locked
02:15 and loaded and ready to go,
02:16 which I felt good about.
02:18 You don't really wanna be influenced by any of it,
02:22 especially because our characters are not the same.
02:24 Yours, in a way, are.
02:26 You're just playing the same person.
02:28 But getting to talk to her is so amazing,
02:30 and she didn't realize how much of her crew
02:32 from the original movies had moved on to do ours as well.
02:35 So it was really nice
02:37 and felt like a little bit of reunion for her.
02:39 - And obviously, this is such a great cast.
02:42 Rachel, what was it like getting to work with Josh again
02:45 on another project?
02:46 - It's wonderful.
02:47 We don't really have any scenes together in this movie,
02:49 but we both did our first movie together.
02:52 We got to act together.
02:53 There's something so wonderful about coming to set
02:56 and seeing a familiar face
02:57 and somebody that you are so comfortable with
02:59 and consider to be a second home.
03:01 So I felt so at ease,
03:04 and I just love seeing him shine.
03:06 As somebody who's known him for four years now,
03:08 it's amazing to watch his trajectory and watch him soar,
03:12 and he's so beautiful in this film.
03:14 - And Tom, can you talk about your off-screen dynamic
03:18 with the rest of the cast?
03:19 What's your friendship like?
03:20 Is there any kind of a group chat situation going on?
03:23 - Cover your ears.
03:24 (laughing)
03:25 We had an amazing time shooting this.
03:27 It was truly like a family,
03:29 and I don't think I expected that going into it
03:31 just because the film and the franchise is so big.
03:34 I think I had a preconception of it being
03:36 just like a moving machine that just kept going.
03:39 But I think this is a credit to Francis Lawrence
03:41 and Nina Jacobson, who are our kind of leaders
03:44 and who led the first movies as well.
03:48 They make it feel like it could be some small,
03:52 heartfelt indie movie almost,
03:53 but in the framework of this enormous world
03:56 that everyone loves already.
03:57 And we really became close, all of us.
04:00 I mean, there's obviously dozens and dozens
04:02 of mentors and tributes in the story,
04:05 and then there's us.
04:07 - And I.
04:07 - And there's us.
04:08 And we all became really close,
04:10 and we're doing summer camp together
04:12 for six months in Europe.
04:14 And yeah, I think we'll all be friends for life.
04:17 Yeah, I hope.
04:18 - I hope so too.
04:19 - Yeah.
04:19 - And Rachel, I know you brought up your outfits
04:21 in the film.
04:22 That was another thing I was gonna ask about.
04:23 I loved them too.
04:24 Did you have any one that was like
04:25 a standout favorite look?
04:27 - You know, I really loved my last look in the film,
04:31 which is like a gold skirt.
04:33 And there's a lot of layers to that skirt,
04:35 which you don't really get to see too much,
04:37 but it reminded me of, you know,
04:40 like a very classic Audrey Hepburn silhouette,
04:43 but with the, you know, kind of in the world of Lucy Gray,
04:46 where it's like a big puffy shirt,
04:48 and then obviously your mother's scarf in it.
04:50 And it was such a beautiful look.
04:52 I loved it a lot, but I loved all my looks.
04:54 It's really hard to pick a favorite.
04:56 - And can you both, last question,
04:58 can you both describe the film in three words?
05:01 - Dystopian.
05:04 - Oh, you wanna do it combined?
05:05 - Let's do three words together.
05:06 - Yeah.
05:07 - Just dystopian.
05:08 - Dystopian.
05:09 Deep dive, like with a hyphen.
05:13 - With a hyphen, yeah.
05:14 We'll give you that one as one.
05:14 - Thank you.
05:15 - And then, philosophical.
05:18 - Yeah, I think that's pretty good.
05:19 - Yeah.
05:20 - Nailed it, high five.
05:21 (upbeat music)
05:26 (upbeat music)
05:29 (upbeat music)
05:32 (upbeat music)
