Transcript
00:00 It doesn't take much to spot a Mopar fan.
00:04 Deep down in my heart and soul I've always been a Mopar guy.
00:08 Come on along with Chris on a trip down Mopar land.
00:12 Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth make up the car world known as Mopar and today we're going
00:16 to take a look under the hood.
00:17 I mean you're going down the road in this thing and if people don't know what this is
00:22 they're going to want to find out.
00:24 And we're going to find out from one of the world's most passionate Mopar collectors as
00:28 he takes us on a rare tour of his incredible rides.
00:32 First time I came in here it just took my breath away.
00:35 And then we're off to the world famous Playboy Mansion as he takes the top off of his pride
00:39 and joy.
00:40 You're looking at the one and only.
00:43 I don't care where you look you couldn't find another one.
00:45 Am I drooling?
00:46 I'm drooling.
00:53 America's big three.
01:19 They've always been an interesting trio competing for the souls of US drivers since the day
01:24 all three companies put rides into motion.
01:27 Definitely some rivalry going on there but you know Mopar is like they've been kind of
01:30 like the underdog for so many years.
01:33 There's always going to be those hard core die hard Mopar fans you know.
01:37 Some people want to call them fanatical.
01:41 Some people want to call them left to center.
01:42 The fact is they're so passionate about their brand and the fact that Mopar is almost a
01:49 it's considered kind of outside the box.
01:52 That's what makes it interesting.
01:55 Mopar or no car Mopar guys are just hard core.
01:58 If they're going to be into Mopars that's all they're going to be into and so that's
02:02 what they say.
02:03 I either drive a Mopar or nothing.
02:06 I don't really think I need to say anything.
02:08 You know you look around at the I think the styling is the main difference.
02:13 I don't have anything against Ford or GM but Mopar just man their flavors are a lot more
02:18 tasty.
02:19 Here at the Playboy Mansion it's a celebration of all things Mopar and this is where Steve
02:24 Giuliano is showing off possibly the world's rarest Dodge, the Diamante.
02:29 Challenger Diamante is one of those cars that are in such rarefied air that you can't even
02:33 put a price on it.
02:36 Before we get to that one of a kind Mopar let's take a rare look at Steve's one of a
02:40 kind Mopar collection.
02:43 What I tried to create here was a setting that was representative of a period in time.
02:52 That period being the late 60s early 70s.
02:55 This is when men walked on the moon and Miracle Mets won the World Series.
02:59 A long haired white shoe quarterback won the Super Bowl.
03:04 During that period things were loud they were in your face.
03:08 It's overwhelming.
03:09 My product was preferred because it was split up into 12 small rooms where you could grasp
03:13 it a lot better.
03:15 There's no way to really describe the magnitude of what this place is.
03:21 This is just it's unbelievable it's just too cool.
03:23 Too cool for words.
03:26 The Diamante is just one of the incredibly rare rides in Steve's collection.
03:32 Also here three of the rapid transit system caravan cars from 1970 and 1971 as well as
03:38 other impossible to find vehicles from the golden age of muscle.
03:43 This place is very well known amongst the Mopar community.
03:48 Steve's collection but it's a museum to the rest of the world to look at stuff that you
03:52 never even knew existed.
03:56 Check out this 1970 RTS Caravan Hemi Roadrunner.
04:00 It started out in life as an orange Hemi Roadrunner hardtop.
04:03 At one time the car faced a different future.
04:07 This is the 1970 Hemi Rapid Transit Caravan Show Car.
04:12 This car toured with the Rapid Transit Caravan went from city to city.
04:16 70 Roadrunner RTS Car is a phenomenal piece that really is a definition of 70s muscle.
04:25 If you look at your Hot Rod magazine in 1970 this is what you saw and this is pretty neat
04:31 because it was a factory sponsored car that really was a custom.
04:35 The designers had a wild customization plan.
04:38 The car received body mods that included rear fender flares, shaved door handles and new
04:43 rectangular headlights.
04:46 Back in 1970 Chrysler Corporation realized that young people were customizing their cars.
04:52 So they hired Harry Bradley and Bob Larrave to create the Rapid Transit Caravan.
04:58 Highly modified factory built cars to tour the US in their own Rapid Transit Caravan truck.
05:05 It went on tour all over the country to the different dealerships showing people what
05:10 the possibilities were.
05:11 The idea was to lure in young people, buy the stock car and then personalize it.
05:17 The Rapid Transit cars he has I was never able to see any of them in person.
05:20 You only saw them in magazines and on TV.
05:24 I had pretty much forgotten these cars ever existed.
05:26 They were a flash in the pan.
05:29 And here they are in person.
05:30 It's mind boggling to a Mopar enthusiast.
05:35 Well we've only begun to explore the treasures of the Giuliano collection.
05:40 Stick around and we'll see more of the RTS cars as well as other rare Mopars.
05:45 And we'll get a backstage pass to the Playboy Mansion here on Hot Rod Television.
05:50 Don't go away.
