Jorvik Tricycles is a leading provider of electric tricycles, designed to empower people of all abilities and ages

Jorvik Tricycles is a leading provider of electric tricycles, designed to empower people of all abilities and ages. Their mission is to make outdoor adventures accessible to everyone with different models suitable for urban and rural environments and give a sense of freedom back to people who struggle with mobility problems.

Talking about what to expect from the experiential event, James Walker, founder of Jorvik Tricycles said: ‘’We’re excited to showcase our tricycles. There is nothing better than getting to try the tricycles out for yourself and that’s what these events are all about. There’s no obligation to purchase, just a chance to come along, try a tricycle for yourself and enjoy being out and about. We can’t wait to see everyone and show them a new and enjoyable way of getting around’’

The versatility of Jorvik Tricycles has made them increasingly popular, particularly following the cycling boom during the pandemic. People turn to tricycles for a safe, stable, accessible cycling solution. James Walker explains ’’We’re making the outdoors accessible again and helping people to improve their lifestyle – whether that’s in the city or the countryside, there’s a Jorvik Tricycle for everyone’’.

00:15 Initially when we started roughly 10 years ago we only did a sort of city style tricycle,
00:21 but what we found is we was getting a lot of young genital men coming, young men, young women,
00:26 who unfortunately maybe suffered with balance issues, who were looking for something a little bit more cooler,
00:32 something they could go off-road with, so that's where we came up with the idea of making a mountain trike.
00:38 Going off-roading, they take them on holiday with them, so they may take them to the caravans,
00:44 they may go on, just yeah, just basically off-road, country lanes, forest tracks, anywhere like that,
00:51 anywhere off the beaten road basically, but you can ride them on tarmac as well,
00:55 so just as good on tarmac, but if it's snowing, if it's muddy, these are the perfect sort of trike for that environment.
01:02 The differences are obviously you've got the third wheel, they do ride differently to bicycles,
01:07 but you do actually have more stability, you can turn sharper on a tricycle than what you can on a bicycle,
01:13 and obviously you've got the benefit of having a cargo box at the back, so you can do your shopping,
01:19 you could take your pet in the back, you get a lot of customers who purchase them just so they can put the dogs in the baskets,
01:24 but a lot of businesses buy them as well, use them as work tools, we have a trailer that can attach to the back,
01:31 so many different uses.
01:33 We do tend to find that the core demographic is roughly 50 plus, male or female,
01:39 but yeah, we tend to be in that sort of age range, but we do have a lot of young customers.
01:45 Our oldest customer, and that's been to the showroom, was 103.
01:49 We're buying them for the residents within Whiteford House, and these guys, some of them have disabilities,
01:55 older, aged people, so we're giving them the independence and the opportunity to get out on the trikes.
02:01 Cycling around the city of Edinburgh, using the baskets to do their shopping, giving themselves the independence that they should have.
02:07 It's been fantastically well received, so all of them are very enthusiastic about it.
