00:00 taking it back to the real OG videos where I just used to come up the creek
00:03 me and a GoPro I bought a fishing rod with me one lure and we're going to be
00:08 staying up here for 24 hours doing some survival fishing I haven't eaten
00:12 anything today and if I don't catch anything to eat I'm not going to be
00:16 eating at all so we've got a pretty cool adventure coming up the only lure that
00:21 I'm bringing is this one that imitates a shrimp this is what these catfish and
00:25 Australian bass are feeding on in this creek a massive shout out to Shimano for
00:30 sending me rods to use in my videos I've got the 7 foot 1 to 4 kilo Shimano
00:34 jewel matched up with the 2500 twin power and mate you'll see how good it is
00:39 using it in these little creeks to catch these fish today but what we're gonna do
00:43 is try to get a fish first up in the morning I don't think I'm gonna be
00:46 eating it straight away we've still got a lot of ground to cover a lot of creeks
00:50 to walk and who knows what other animals will find along the way but this pool
00:54 just down the corner right here has a lot of catfish in it so let's see if we
00:58 can get one straight away now sadly I have to wear shoes for this first part
01:02 of the video because I've cut my feet open here on lots of metal before but
01:07 we're getting these gross things off later on when we get down to a bit of a
01:10 better area in the creek system so at this time of the year what these eel tail
01:15 catfish are doing is they're actually picking up a bunch of little pebbles in
01:19 their mouths and forming a nest with them and that's what these round
01:22 circular rock formations are in the water and they will guard these nests I
01:27 reckon if I walked across this little area right here I'd probably get attacked
01:31 by catfish just down there oh there's two I want to get this one
01:40 are you serious water dragon you've got to be kidding me a water dragon just
01:51 dropped out of the tree onto my catfish that one is definitely not gonna bite
01:57 anymore but see this they're attacking each other
02:02 here's a big caddy sitting just down here this one's gonna eat I can feel it
02:20 yep there we go first caddy of the day yes oh loosen the drag off I knew that
02:30 one was gonna eat look there's another one chasing it around as well oh yes
02:38 wasn't sure if this was gonna work but here we are first caddy of the day
02:43 there's so many more all the way down there I'm gonna get down and land him
02:50 down into the water I go come on mate I feel like that's all I needed it is a
03:01 higher bank that I could drop it right on their face because unless you do that
03:05 they're not gonna be eating all right mate oh look at you we're not gonna eat
03:13 you don't worry there we go but yeah that right there is an eel tail catfish
03:24 they're scattered all through these creek systems and it's a bit hard to get
03:27 them to bite today but it's good to see that they're starting to come on the chew
03:31 and since we're doing this survival fishing video we're going to be cooking
03:34 up one of these catfish later but I reckon we're going to be able to get a
03:37 couple more so I'm gonna let this caddy go try to get some more fish and then
03:41 cook one up later on on the bank and we're sleeping up here tonight I haven't
03:45 bought anything to sleep in so be nice to find a little riverbank somewhere but
03:49 yes skinny water catfish fishing brings me back to old times first fish of the
03:53 day how good let's see if we can get another one straight away oh there's two
04:00 big caddies right there gonna take a bit of convincing for this dude to eat it
04:06 but eat da food yep there we go there we go he eventually smoked it and this is
04:19 the big one this is the biggest one in here there we go yes this is actually so
04:27 fun catching these little caddies on lures as well all right
04:34 haha right in the corner of the mouth so in this Creek until we get way further
04:40 down this is pretty much the only big species of fish that we catch but as we
04:44 get further down it towards the bigger system there's actually big Australian
04:48 bass in there so we'll hopefully be able to get some of them as well Wow you're a
04:55 big caddy we're not gonna eat you either all right Wow take a look at the size of
05:08 that big fella that is so cool I reckon because this one was on a nest it could
05:13 even have eggs so we're definitely gonna let it go we're looking for something a
05:17 lot smaller that we're gonna cook up but yeah there we go big catfish out of this
05:23 little Creek system it's so cool coming back down here I haven't been down here
05:27 for years doing this kind of stuff but if you watch my channel from when I
05:30 started when I was about 12 years old I have been up this Creek hundreds if not
05:35 thousands of times over the years and doing the exact same thing coming down
05:39 here with just a rod finding heaps of animals catching fish like this and
05:43 letting them go yeah we're gonna get this big girl back in the water keep
05:46 walking this Creek and see what else we can find all right see ya
05:52 whoa when you go down to another pool now I think all it was is we just needed
05:59 to find a better place to fish if you've got these big banks you can actually
06:03 drop the lure right on their face and the Creek continues like this the whole
06:06 way down so we're gonna keep walking it
06:10 and welcome to the land of a thousand caddies you can see their nests
06:25 everywhere through this little stretch there there that dinner dinner dinner so
06:30 many catfish along here look down is literally one right at my feet and he's
06:36 eating as well you're she's gonna love this oh you took it I'm definitely gonna
06:46 catch this dude see this is what the catfish do they'll get it in their mouth
06:51 and then they'll spit it out straight away and normally it'll die and they'll
06:55 circle around and eat it there we go it was only a matter of time oh he's
07:02 pulling some string yes all the way out there back in here mate I don't want to
07:12 eat any of them one of them is gonna be my dinner just caught him off this
07:17 little nest down here so ideally I don't want to take one that's sitting on a
07:22 nest in a survival situation obviously you take what you can get but I love
07:28 seeing caddies in this Creek and it proves how healthy the population is
07:31 because they're everywhere there we go
07:38 ah you got off wasn't meant to be I need to find one that's not sitting on a nest
07:51 that we can eat but by doing this it narrows it down to about four catfish in
07:55 the whole Creek that I can eat there's like a thousand catfish on nests here
08:01 oh
08:03 so I've just found this stick that's positioned out over this Creek system and
08:17 I don't think the universe would have put it here if it didn't want me to jump
08:20 on a fish off of it we're gonna wait for my dinner to swim underneath me and
08:24 hopefully grab it Oh caddy there and there you come back you come back
08:34 there's no game plan to this I missed him but you miss a hundred percent of
08:45 the shots that you take I mean solid effort considering there's no real
08:50 classes you can go to that teaches you how to jump on a catfish out of a tree
08:55 but I think we're gonna need a stick to catch you one on a fishing rod the only
08:59 way we're gonna catch this caddy is if we're up there so that's where I'm
09:04 headed
09:15 all right shall we he's not gonna know where he's getting annoyed from look up
09:22 man oh yep I got one I got a caddy in the tree are you kidding me
09:32 haha yeah is that a caddy I was just randomly working it down there yes caddy
09:39 from this nest down here oh look at that oh we're in an ideal place right here to
09:47 land this catfish wonder how high that actually is probably too high to drop a
09:54 this is gonna be interesting
09:59 down here all right and where is he he got me under the bank there we go
10:14 another caddy out of the tree that is awesome
10:22 oh
10:24 there we go yes nearly got me under the bank over there that was a pretty solid
10:40 run haha there we go look there's another caddy
10:47 checking out what's going on oh look he's attacking him oh are you kidding
10:56 me all right I think this is gonna be my
11:00 dinner breakfast lunch and dinner to be exact
11:04 where's my shrimp gone mate you ate it did you oh you're a big catfish you're a
11:13 massive catfish well we are feeding well tonight yes all right let's find a place
11:20 to make a little fire oh you're a nice colored caddy there you go
11:35 chill in there for now mate I never like killing these animals even a fish they're
11:43 all the same we're all equal but I do need to eat it's like if I get too close
11:47 to the water up in North Queensland and the crocodile ate me I'm not gonna be
11:50 angry at the crocodile for that but very grateful for this fish that we can now
11:55 eat dinner in such a beautiful place out here in the rainforest it's about three
11:59 o'clock at the moment I'm gonna make a fire cook up this fish and then go find
12:03 somewhere to set up camp and sleep for the night all right we'll make a little
12:07 fire pit right there - you as well come with me guys
12:34 oh this is gonna be such a cool little afternoon catching my own fish down the
12:41 creek again look at that fireplace
12:46 (sizzling)
12:48 (sizzling)
12:50 (sizzling)
12:52 (sizzling)
12:54 (sizzling)
12:56 (sizzling)
12:58 (sizzling)
13:00 (sizzling)
13:02 (footsteps thudding)
13:05 (ax thuds)
13:10 (ax thudding)
13:17 (ax thudding)
13:22 (laughing)
13:31 - Ah, close enough.
13:32 So we've just collected enough firewood
13:36 to cook up this fish, and what we're gonna do now
13:38 is go down the creek, take the guts out of this catfish,
13:41 start this fire, and cook it up.
13:43 Okay.
13:44 Oh, you're a beautiful catfish.
13:47 Thank you for your food, mate.
13:49 I won't film this part,
13:51 but I'm gonna kill the catfish instantly,
13:54 and then, yeah, we'll cook 'em up.
13:55 Thank you for your food, mate.
13:56 Thank you so much.
13:57 Now, I believe, as humans,
14:00 we have the right to hunt for our own food,
14:03 but that doesn't mean you should be disrespectful
14:05 to the animal.
14:06 But yeah, let's cook him up.
14:07 Take the guts out of this catty.
14:08 He's eating the leaf.
14:15 So all of his guts that are going back out
14:18 into the river now will feed shrimp,
14:21 which will grow bigger, feed more catfish,
14:24 so it all goes back into the ecosystem,
14:27 and this guy is gonna feed me.
14:29 That's a pretty cool shot.
14:30 Are you kidding me?
14:37 Look what just fell down on me.
14:39 Big feather.
14:40 I reckon we'll chuck it at the top of the fire.
14:42 Just like that.
14:45 Yes.
14:48 There we go.
14:53 All right.
14:57 Fire's cooking.
14:58 Got the catty down here,
15:00 ready to chuck in when it dies down.
15:02 But yeah.
15:04 Mate, we're sitting in a pretty good place here.
15:08 All right.
15:21 So what we're gonna do now is chuck this big catty on.
15:25 How good is that?
15:26 So we're just gonna throw him in the side now
15:29 so he gets to cook up
15:30 while we still have all these sticks in there.
15:32 There you go, dude.
15:36 Probably leave him for about 20 minutes, I'd say.
15:39 Flip him over, do the other side.
15:41 This is when I feel the most connected to this land.
15:47 Coming out here and putting myself in a situation
15:51 that we used to live in way back when,
15:53 when we used to be hunters and gatherers out here
15:56 catching our own food.
15:58 It is a bit different now with fishing rods and stuff,
16:00 but still the same idea and still so cool.
16:03 Just flip him over.
16:04 No crazy recipes, just fish, fire, eat.
16:13 One day out here, I'm already turning into a caveman.
16:16 Fish, fire, eat.
16:18 Mm, doesn't that look disgusting?
16:21 I've eaten catties so many times before.
16:23 I'm used to it.
16:26 All right.
16:27 Gordon Ramsay would be proud.
16:32 Gordon Ramsay would be shocked.
16:37 True, I know it looks terrible,
16:43 but beneath the charcoal, there's actually a good feed
16:47 and it doesn't taste too bad.
16:54 It's not too bad.
16:55 Definitely not as good as the barramundi
16:58 that we cooked in the last video,
17:00 but a good feed nevertheless.
17:02 And I haven't eaten anything all day,
17:11 so it'll give me a bit of energy to get through the night.
17:14 (water gurgling)
17:17 So we've caught a heap of fish, caught myself some dinner.
17:30 Now all we need to focus on
17:32 is finding a place to sleep tonight.
17:34 I feel like that's pretty much a day for me.
17:36 I did bring a torch with me,
17:38 so we'll go for a night walk later on
17:40 and see if we can find anything.
17:41 But yeah, I'm just gonna finish off this fish
17:43 on the riverbank, chill down here till it gets dark.
17:47 All right, so the sun's just setting at the moment
17:49 and this is where we're gonna be sleeping for tonight.
17:51 I found a little sandy bank,
17:52 but what we're gonna do now
17:54 is I've brought a torch out with me,
17:55 so we're gonna go for a night walk
17:57 and see if we can find any animals after dark.
18:00 Hopefully a couple snakes.
18:01 It's really humid, so I'm sure they'll be coming out.
18:04 But yeah, it's been such a cool day so far.
18:06 We're gonna be sleeping here later.
18:07 We might even build a little fire.
18:09 Let's start walking and see what we can find.
18:12 First snake of the night.
18:14 So that right there, just climbing up this bank,
18:17 is a little coastal carpet python.
18:19 Beautiful species of non-venomous snake
18:21 that we have here in Australia.
18:22 So we're looking for something a bit more deadly
18:25 than this guy right here.
18:27 We're looking for some highly venomous species,
18:29 but it's cool to see that this is what I'm gonna be
18:31 sleeping with out here under the stars.
18:33 Little carpet python.
18:35 All right, we'll keep going.
18:37 That's a bit better.
18:38 That's what we're looking for.
18:39 This is a highly venomous species of snake
18:41 known as the small-eyed snake.
18:43 And mate, they're all out tonight.
18:45 They're coming out.
18:45 It's very humid, which is what's bringing these snakes out.
18:48 I would not wanna get bitten by this dude
18:50 all the way out here.
18:51 I reckon he's just gonna crawl off into there
18:54 and see if he was in there, you would walk right past him.
18:57 Wouldn't even know there's a highly venomous snake
18:59 sitting in there.
19:00 All right, so I've just set my torch and my camera up.
19:10 And would you take a look at this species
19:12 down in front of me right here?
19:14 This is the third snake and the third different species
19:16 we've found tonight.
19:17 And this is the mildly venomous golden crown snake.
19:20 Such a beautiful species.
19:22 One of my favorite.
19:23 He's looking at me right now.
19:25 Take a look at him, but this is a big snake.
19:27 Look at him kind of standing up
19:29 in that little defensive posture.
19:31 He could see my foot moving before.
19:32 He's like, I know something's there.
19:34 Just walking back to camp,
19:36 and we found yet again another golden crown snake.
19:40 The snakes are out tonight.
19:41 If I had more torch power, I'd keep going,
19:43 but we gotta leave them be,
19:45 head back to camp and go to sleep.
19:47 All right, and on the way back to camp,
19:49 we found what we were looking for.
19:51 Take a look at this guy right here.
19:53 So this is the bandy bandy or hoop snake.
19:55 And you can see why they call him the hoop snake.
19:58 Look at him getting a bit defensive.
20:00 This is so cool.
20:00 My torch is running out of battery.
20:02 I've just had to set it both up on the ground right now.
20:04 But mate, how cool is that?
20:06 Bandy bandy out in the bush.
20:08 We have found so many cool species of snakes,
20:11 and I'm absolutely stoked with that.
20:13 I can't believe I didn't bring my big camera on this mission.
20:16 I'd be getting such cool footage,
20:17 but I feel like it's pretty special
20:19 just coming out here with the GoPro, doing all of this.
20:22 And now we get to go back to camp,
20:23 sleep there for the night, wake up in the morning.
20:26 I've got to run back to camp right now.
20:27 My torch is literally nearly out of battery.
20:30 And we've still got about a kilometer to go.
20:32 But yeah, little bandy bandy out here in the bush.
20:35 Mate, that is awesome.
20:36 (gentle music)
20:39 (wind whooshing)
20:42 (gentle music)
20:44 (ethereal music)
20:47 you
