Notre Dame Must Find Answers At Wide Receiver
Transcript

00:04 You've got to figure out who you trust the receiver and play him.
00:07 Now, the purpose of this conversation is not to tell Notre Dame what to do.
00:14 You all know what I think they should do.
00:16 Force feed the ball to number five, get him going.
00:19 He brings a different skill set than you have from anywhere else.
00:23 Get the ball to number four more often, that's a big must.
00:27 And then number 19, get him moving around and get him back into the offense,
00:30 because he's a big part of this offense too.
00:32 And then 83 and 17 and 80,
00:35 those guys can be really good complimentary players to those guys.
00:38 That's what I would do.
00:40 I highly doubt Notre Dame does that.
00:42 But whoever you all think is the guys that you trust,
00:47 whether I agree with it or not, whoever you guys trust, create a more fluid rotation.
00:54 And what I mean by that is, right now I view it as like real herky-jerky.
01:00 It's just from play to play, you're rotating guys out.
01:02 A guy can go make a catch for ten yards and
01:04 then we don't see him again for six plays.
01:06 It's been impossible for the Notre Dame receivers to get into any kind of rhythm
01:10 with the way that they rotate guys.
01:12 It's impossible.
01:13 Look, I've played the position as a freshman.
01:16 I started as a true freshman in college at wide receiver for
01:18 six games before I got hurt.
01:20 I've coached the position, I've coached all Americans,
01:22 I've coached on offenses that have set passing records,
01:24 all-time passing records at the school.
01:27 I've done this, I'm telling you.
01:29 I like playing a deep bench, but you can't keep rotating every single play
01:35 like they're doing right now.
01:36 It's impossible for guys to get into a rhythm.
01:39 And it's even harder for guys that don't have a ton of experience.
01:43 And it's killed the pass game.
01:46 It's been one of the things that's actually killed the pass game in the last
01:49 four games, is just there's no flow.
01:52 There's no, I now know what this guy wants to do to me against press.
01:56 So, cuz part of winning at press is you've got your stuff that you've got to work on.
01:59 But then I go against this guy 15, 20, 25 times.
02:03 And now I know this is how I can beat this guy.
02:05 And go back, hey coach, I can beat this guy.
02:07 But when you only go against them once every ten plays,
02:11 it's harder for you to have that.
02:13 So.
