00:00 The more we look at this, the more concerning this becomes for a situation where heavy rain can quickly escalate into flash flooding, life-threatening flash flooding in some areas.
00:11 Because look at how wet it's been across the entire eastern seaboard. We know it's been storm after storm after storm, lots of them on the weekend.
00:18 For an even closer look at the forecast, we bring in Michelle McLeod now.
00:23 Michelle, this has escalated quickly because we're looking at an area that John was just talking about, major metropolitan areas over the next 24 to 36 hours, could be some serious flooding concerns.
00:36 And here's what's making it worse. I mean, already you have the onshore, stiff onshore winds, and then you have the high tides, that's been making it worse.
00:43 Kevin, the full moon is tomorrow, and it's a super moon as well, so it's really going to exacerbate this tide.
00:50 And on top of that, you have the rain returning, so it's going to cause some flash flooding.
00:54 And the problem in this tri-state area is we have a lot of apartments or dwellings underground, so flooding is definitely going to be an issue where a lot of these people live.
01:04 And in fact, in the heart of this, the city, for those that are outside of New York City, the city is Manhattan, and then everything else is everything else.
01:11 But anyways, tri-state area, you're going to be looking at 4 to 8 inches of rain, and then even outside of that, 2 to 4 inches of rain with an AccuWeather local storm max of 9 inches.
01:22 I don't want to scare you, I just want to make sure you're prepared.
01:25 So because of all that rain, I have a flash flood watch for a lot of places in the tri-state area.
01:31 We've got Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, all of Long Island getting in on that flash flood watch.
01:37 Watch for now, but a warning, definitely we'll keep our eyes open for that.
01:41 You can see how the water is making its way into New Jersey, that onshore flow there.
01:47 You see, like pay attention to the way this is trending.
01:51 Because usually weather goes from west to east, but it's kind of going in the opposite direction.
01:55 And then high tide on top of that, it's a problem.
01:59 So let me show you how you're going to get there.
02:01 I've got this high pressure system.
02:03 That's cyclonic flow, that's bringing a return flow back into the ocean, and back into the shores here.
02:09 And then a low pressure system is going to make its way up the coast.
02:12 That anti-cyclonic flow is doing the same thing.
02:15 It's all funneling the water right towards the tri-state area.
02:19 So AccuWeather future radar, I mean, tomorrow morning, it is going to be very tough for that morning commute.
02:27 I mean, look at all that rain, it doesn't get better by noon, and it doesn't get better by 4.
02:32 We're just going to continue to see rain.
02:35 And then it looks like it pulls away, but watch how it backs in on itself by Saturday afternoon, and then Saturday evening.
02:42 We're dealing with this until Sunday.
02:45 Sunday is when things get better.
02:47 And not only do they get better, but things get warmer.
02:50 So you'll see dry conditions for places like New York.
02:53 I mean, my whole map here, no one dealing with rain, lots of sunshine.
02:57 Temps not only in the 70s, but being much warmer than what we're historically used to for this time of year.
