Gregg Berhalter held a virtual press conference on Wednesday ahead of the U.S. men's national team's upcoming camp and exhibitions against Uzbekistan and Oman.

Berhalter was asked about his participation in Inter Miami's welcome video for Lionel Messi, as well as his thoughts on John Herdman moving from Canada's men's national team to Toronto FC of the MLS.

00:00 Miami asked me to do that to welcome him, I guess, as being the national team coach,
00:04 I thought it'd be nice to have the national team coach welcoming Leo into it. But on second thought,
00:10 I shouldn't have done it. I heard I got some jeers from the crowd. So now I'm not doing that anymore
00:14 for Inter Miami. No, I'm just kidding. That's a joke, Andrew. It's good to see you though,
00:19 Andrew, again. No, listen, I think the first thing is, you know, hats off to Inter Miami
00:27 and the ownership group of the Moss brothers and David Beckham for what they've done for MLS.
00:32 You have this idea of what it could be, you know, of what MLS is, and then you totally break the
00:39 mold by getting someone like Messi and taking it to a different level. It's been amazing exposure.
00:45 You know, I've been watching all the games, I went to the League's Cup final, which was an amazing
00:50 event, two teams really competing hard against each other for a title. And overall, it's just,
00:55 it's blown me away on the impact that Lionel Messi can have. And not only him, but when you bring
01:02 Busquets and Alba into it, how it can translate onto the field. That's been interesting, really
01:07 interesting to watch. Regarding John, you know, I'm sad to see him leave the international circuit,
01:15 so to speak. I enjoyed competing against him. He's a fierce competitor, and you have to be at your
01:20 best to beat him. But you know, we will remain friends and you know, happy to support him in
01:28 any way. And now I can use him as a resource because he'll actually, you know, talk to me
01:34 about international stuff because we're not competing anymore. So I think it's the best of
01:39 both worlds, but I wish him all the best at TFC. You know, I'm sure he's a prepared guy. He's the
01:45 thoughtful guy. He's really good at aligning a team around a vision. And I'm sure he's going to
01:51 do that in Toronto and be successful.
