In Kabir Singh, Shahid Kapoor’s eponymous character is introduced as an angry young man for no apparent reason. Even before he loses the woman he passionately loves and sets out on a path of self-destruction, he is shown blowing a fuse at the slightest provocation.

00:00 Hello, welcome to Outlook. You are watching Matinee Idol with Giridhar Jha.
00:04 Today I will tell you why you should or should not watch Shahid Kapoor's latest release Kabir Singh.
00:17 Dilip Kumar played the immortal Devdas, where he played the character of a man who chooses the path of self-destruction after losing his lady love.
00:27 Amitabh Bachchan played angry young man in film after film quite early in his career.
00:33 Shahid Kapoor gets to play a mix of both these roles in his latest release Kabir Singh.
00:40 In Kabir Singh, Shahid Kapoor gets to play both these roles.
00:44 He is playing the character of an angry young man who falls in love with a girl.
00:49 How he loses the girl and how he chooses to destruct himself is what Kabir Singh is all about.
00:57 Kabir Singh you know is a remake of 2017 hit Telugu movie Arjun Reddy, which was also directed by the same director Sandeep Vanga.
01:08 The major problem with Kabir Singh is that the film progresses nicely till the interval, showing the passionate romance between Shahid Kapoor and his lady love played by Kiara Advani.
01:19 But post interval, the film flounders big time because the movie chooses to concentrate only and only on the self-destructing actions of Kabir Singh.
01:30 Kiara Advani vanishes from the film until the climax and the movie for about one hour shows only the lead character wallowing in self-pity.
01:42 A discerning editor would have pruned the movie by at least half an hour to make it a racier movie, the way the original had been made.
01:50 Shahid Kapoor is near impeccable in this movie but he is nowhere near his performances in Haider, Kameene or Urta Punjab.
02:01 Maybe he had his limitations because the director apparently has chosen the same template which has used in his Telugu original.
02:09 Acting wise, Kiara Advani has done well and the lead pair is supported by a strong star cast led by the veteran Kamini Kaushal, Suresh Oberoi, Arjun Vajwa and Nikita Dutta.
02:23 I would give this movie 2.5 stars.
