Sorti du groupe des cadors dans la descente de la côte de Pike, le coureur de la formation UAE Team Emirates n'a été accompagné que par un seul coureur... son frère jumeau Simon, leader du Team Jayco AlUla. Les deux Yates ont abordé le faux plat montant d'arrivée ensemble, et c'est Adam qui s'est montré le plus fort dans cette dernière pour aller chercher sa première victoire sur le Tour et le maillot jaune ! Un groupe de douze coureurs a franchi la ligne 12 secondes après le vainqueur du jour, et c'est Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) qui a pris la troisième place et les 4 secondes de bonification qui vont avec.
