Tripura is all set to go to the polls on February 16 to elect all 60 members of the Tripura Legislative Assembly. This time, it’s going to be a triangular fight among the BJP-IPFT alliance, the regional tribal party Tipra Motha, and the Left parties and the Congress combine.
The tribal issues have taken center stage in the Tripura elections. Pradyot Manikya, the royal scion and leader of Tipra Motha, is pushing for a separate state for the Tripuries, while the left and Congress are advocating for increased power to the tribal autonomous council.
At present over 400 Central Armed Para Military Forces (CAPF) are being deployed in the state along with 20000 police personnel to ensure a peaceful election.
