TEMPO.CO - Palm Oil and Green Deal between Indonesia and the EU
The relationship of Indonesia and the European Union has not always been smooth. For examples, there are issues on oil palm and nickel ore export which create a tense relationship between the two sides. The EU, which aims to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050, refuses to recognize palm-based biodiesel as a renewable fuel and plans to end its use by 2030. The EU considers palm oil plantations as the cause of widespread deforestation. Indonesia subsequently lodges a trade dispute with the World Trade Organization. Follow our/the interview with Frans Timmerman, the Executive Vice-President of European Commission and Commissioner for European Green Deal.
