I'm going to talk about what is goosebumps, why do we get them and if you can control them.
Do you believe in ghosts? Some people do and some people don't, but the reality is you can't prove they don't exist and you can't prove they do exist.
Yesterday, I was watching a movie called “The other side of the door” which wasn't very good, but in one scene my entire body got covered in goosebumps, really badly.
It was the scene when you knew something really creepy and bad was about to happen. So why do we get goosebumps?
Beneath the outer layer of the skin we have very tiny muscles known as arrector pili.
When you are cold they will decrease in size making the skin around them seem bigger. The word goosebumps comes from how a bird looks when its feathers have been plucked.
Ever notice that a cat's hair seems to stand up when they feel threatened. Yep, it is due to goosebumps.
It's almost like when you see a mountain lion hiking, you want to appear as big as possible so you will be left alone. Having your hair stick out a little might make you appear bigger and thus it's a survival mechanism.
If you are cold having your hair stick out a little might keep you a little warmer. So you can see how it can help, but since we don't have hair it doesn't really serve any purpose or does it?
Do you believe in intuition? Just like that scary movie I knew something bad was going to happen and goosebumps are another way that my intuition was talking to me saying “get the hell out of here.”
Have you ever wondered if you could control goosebumps and how to do that?
It turns out that some people just with their mind can give themselves goosebumps, almost like telling their body to walk. Then they can remove the goosebumps on will. Apart from a cool party trick I don't really think there is much of a use to doing it.
So how do you do it? Apart from watching a scary movie and sticking your hand in the freezer I unfortunately don't know. I've been searching for methods to do it with my mind and found a few answers. Then I try the techniques and they don't work for me.
If you know a cool trick for giving yourself goosebumps please share in the comments section below.
