Just a Gigolo – Ian Arnott/Climax Jazz Band 1986
"Just a Gigolo" is best known for the 1956 Louis Prima version, where it is paired in a medley with another old standard, "I Ain't Got Nobody" Although these two songs have nothing else in common, due to the popularity of Prima's combination they are sometimes mistaken as parts of the same song.
Ian Arnott, originally from Edinbrough Scotland had been a member of our band a few years back and in this session he was our guest for this concert at the Harbourfront Jazz Club in Toronto. Ian who was a fan of Bing Crosby, Louis Prima and Rudy Vallee had taken this tune in his repertoire. He would always perform it standing slighly bend with his clarinet resting on his back. I’m so glad I found this recording again, because it was a very succesful part of our repertoire when Ian was a member, and at that time, 1981, camcorders weren’t really much available to witness such events.
Others in the band: Bob Erwig cornet, Len Gosling trombone, Jack Vincken banjo, Chris Daniels bass and another special guest Graham Scriven from England on drums.
