Qantas Airways recently expedited a jet engine to Johannesburg by attaching it to the side of a Boeing 747.

Qantas Airways just sent a jet engine to Johannesburg from Sydney—attached to the side of a Boeing 747. 
That makes five engines total onboard for the January 6th trip, but the fifth wasn't actually powered up for use—it's just an efficient way of delivering the engine where it's needed. 
The mechanics for the rare event are apparently simple enough.
