The European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope at the Paranal Observatory recently returned an image showing the aftermath of a galactic collision.

In the center of an image sits a blurry and yellow egg-shaped galaxy almost 200 million light-years beyond. 

That galaxy, NGC 5291, comprises part of the Centaurus constellation. 

We see in the picture debris from a massive crash in space that occurred ages upon ages back in the past. 

The European Southern Observatory, or ESO, explains, "Over 360 million years ago, NGC 5291 was involved in a dramatic and violent collision as another galaxy traveling at immense speeds barreled into its core. The cosmic crash ejected huge streams of gas into nearby space, which later
