Tim bought this toy at the 1998 New York Toy Fair. It came from the American company Woodstock, who sell bells, chimes and various musical instruments.

They had to get this item made by a company in Germany who specialise in ceramic items.

The cup and the bird are all one piece, and the bird acts as a whistle, so if you just blow through it when the cup is empty, you get the sound of a normal whistle. However the hole where the air exits from the whistle is on the inside of the cup, towards the top, and if you fill the cup with any liquid - from tea to water - so that the hole is covered, and then you blow, the whistle sound now comes out as a bird warble.
