Tin Roof Blues - Gene Mayl and his Dixieland Rhytm Kings 1982
One of the most popular blues’ in the dixieland repertoire. Usually it would not be a tune I choose for youtube or dailymotion postings.
Of course the band consists of fine musicians and having them play the simple blues always gives a good sample of their improvisatory talents.
I was particularily impressed with the wonderful muted cornet solo by Ernie Carson. Obviously he was inspired by the great trumpet player Muggsy Spanier.
In this clip we see leader Gene Mayl on bass with cornettist Ernie Carson; Kim Cusack (usually with the Salty Dogs) clarinet and vocal; Hans Kuenzel trombone; the outstanding pianist John Ulrich on piano and Ken Hall playing drums
