HAYDEN CALNIN - FOYERS
PRESENTED BY KIRREN
The ink lines that would shape young, self-produced, singer/songwriter Hayden Calnin and his budding musical career were drawn in his teen years after his father gave him a guitar at age 14. He hasn't gone a day since without playing it.
Dabbling in bands through his teen years led him to add drums and piano to his repertoire, until at the age of 17 he finally decided to give singing a go. In his early 20s a degree in film, with a major in sound design became Hayden's entry point into the world of music production. From here on it was only natural that Hayden would begin recording his own songs at home.
With a varied list of musical influences, including artists such as Low, The Swell Season and DeYarmond Edison and genres ranging from 1930s rock 'n' roll to electronica, Hayden's music manifests itself as honest, storytelling folk with a progressive edge. Heartfelt vocals showcase a range that walks a steady pace from sweet, tip toeing falsettos to warm and husky lower ranges that belt out raw, gut wrenching lyrics. His vocals dance sincerely over self-produced, folk/electro soundscapes that feel almost other worldly.
Since the release of his first single, 'Summer', Hayden has managed to garner the attention of Triple J and it's listeners with comparisons to Bon Iver, James Blake and at times Sigur Ros and TV On The Radio.
At only 22, Melbourne based, Hayden has already steadily begun to build a list of notable achievements. In 2010 he was 1 of 4 people chosen to perform at the APRA Song Summit alongside the likes of established Australian artists such as The Jezabels, Eskimo Joe and Washington. This was soon followed by Hayden making it to the Telstra Road to Discovery finals (Top 10) which led him to perform at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2011. The first half of 2012 has seen Hayden tour with the likes of Matt Corby, Gossling and Mat McHugh (The Beautiful Girls).
Hayden's debut EP 'City' is now available worldwide on iTunes and features his current single 'For My Help'.
