If 2009 was about blistering Nashville rock trio Run With Bulls building their musical legacy and blazing new trails, 2010 is surely the Year Of the Bull! Like Nashville-based rock bands before them from Jason & the Scorchers to Kings Of Leon, Run With Bulls are a mix of influences, all galvanized with the musical vision, fiery licks and gritty vocals of charismatic lead guitarist/vocalist and principle songwriter Brad Sample. In their first year under the Run With Bulls banner, the band fine-tuned a potent onstage alchemy with Sample and musical compatriots Philip Turner on drums and Chris James on bass. The chemistry of Sample, Turner and James brings to fruition a powerful, tight unit that nods to rock gods of the past but explodes with its own unique rock and roll passion. The sound is hard to define but the groove is dead-on, with strains of country, blues, modern rock and R&B coalescing in a style uniquely Run With Bulls, and it ignites both on stage and in the studio. Prolific writers, RWB are constantly adding new songs to their arsenal. "We all love country, we all love blues, and we all love Radiohead," says Sample. "Any time somebody has an idea, we try not to shoot it down." Last year saw the band play scores of live shows both around Nashville and in surrounding states, plus a buzz-inducing showcase at New York's fabled Gramercy Theatre. Along the way they found time to craft superb recordings, many of which will be included in an upcoming EP due in the first quarter of this year. Among the tracks are the syncopated, modern-rock sound of "Arrythmia Shuffle," blues/rock rave-ups like "Shotgun" and "Kansas," radio-ready rockers like "Break My Heart" and "Shake This," and goose-bump ballads in "Follow the Light" and "Little Bit More Forgiven," along with epic set-pieces like "Old & Holy Vine." Run With Bulls' live shows are quickly becoming the stuff of local legend. The trio find a live chemistry and explosive energy that represents all that is right in rock and roll. Led by Sample's raging guitar and otherworldly vocals, this is rock music as it is meant to be played, powered by thundering, versatile bass and inspired drumming that cracks, snaps and booms. Get ready for Run With Bulls!
