A hundred years after the start of excavations at Tell Halaf, in what is today north-east Syria, Max Freiherr von Oppenheim’s long-cherished wish has finally been realized: his monumental sculptures, originally believed to be irretrievably damaged, are now to go on display in the Pergamonmuseum.
