On Monday morning acting on MiDDAY report and subsequent intimation from senior postal officials a team of BMC ‘A’ ward drainage staff visited the site for inspection and almost concluded that it was not storm water drainage line. “We have inspected the area and have intimated our central office for assistance. We would carry out further inspection and accordingly submit our report, but prima facie we may say that it might have some heritage importance, as pillars are seen inside,” said a BMC official who was at the site. Abha Singh, Postal Director (HQ) confirmed to MiDDAY about the preliminary revelations made by the BMC staff. She added, “We are more curious to know the history behind the entire opening and it is almost certain that the place has some heritage value.” Singh added, “We have written a letter to the Bombay Heritage Committee, requesting them to explore the mystery and study the possible linkages to the pillars and ancient history.”
