She was one among the first woman forbearers of the `Samyunkt Maharashtra Movement’, but her condition should shame all those who vouch for the Marathi cause and also those who believe in Hindutva. Eighty-year-old Dameanti Kowli’s contribution to the United Maharashtra movement seems to have been forgotten. She lies ailing and bedridden struggling in abject poverty in 250 square feet room in Kowli wadi chawl on South Gokhle road near Dadar, with nobody to help her. Dameanti Kowli alias Manjari Pahwa is bitter about politicians and political parties. Incidentally, Pahwa is the wife of Madanlal Pahwa, who was an accused in the killing of Mahatma Gandhi and that according to her, could be one of the reasons for her being neglected by the parties. “They never forget to come and take photographs during occasions where Hindutva and Samyunkta Maharashtra Movement remains the focus. But nobody has come forward to help me till now, as I have no kid, so people who visit my place approached the office of Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray, some representative of Uddhav came to meet me and assured me help but nothing has been done till the date,” added Pahwa
